First Hang Out
Sky's POV
I can't believe this is happening. In a few minutes, I will be hanging out with Michael Jackson! This has to be a dream come true!
I make it to the gates. Michael is there.
"You'll have to climb the fence. It plays loud music. I need to fix that."
I smile. I get off my bike and hide it in the bushes.
He looks at me weird.
"Why'd you do that?"
"Well, it'll be weird if there's a abandoned bike just outside your gates."
He laughs. "Right, right."
I climb the gate to the top and look down at Michael and whisper,
"I'm going to jump!"
He whispers back,
"No! That's to far up!"
"Catch me!"
I jump and land in his arms. I cover my mouth as I begin laughing. He laughs and looks at me. He stares into my eyes.
I whisper, "Michael?"
He whispers back, "Yes?"
"Are you going to put me down?"
We laugh and he puts me down.
"Sorry."
"It's cool."
I look behind him at the rides. Even though the rides' lights aren't on, I can still see them. The moon is pretty bright tonight. Michael follows my gaze and smiles.
"You like them?"
"Like them? I freaking love them! Can you turn the lights on?"
Michael shrugs his shoulder. "Yeah, I can."
There's a security booth next to the gates. The window is open. He reaches in and flicks a switch. One by one, the rides start to light up. My eyes widen with astonishment. This unbelievable.
"Michael...it's stunning."
"I know."
He stands next to me. An idea popped in my head.
"Last one to the ferris wheel is a rotten egg!"
I take off running. I hear his laughter behind me. I run straight for the ferris wheel. I see Michael in the corner of my eyes. No! I can't let you win! He starts to pass me. I reach my hand out and grab his sleeve. He starts laughing and yells,
"Stop it. Cheater!"
I don't stop. I start laughing. I reach out again and grab his sleeve again. He slows down. But, instead of me passing him, he stops me as well and picks me up and carries me on his shoulder. I start laughing hard. He laughs too.
"You're cheating!"
"You cheated first!"
We laugh all the way to the ferris wheel. He puts me down. I playfully push him and turn and look at the ferris wheel.
"This is marvelous, Michael!"
He laughs. "We'll come on."
We get on and the ferris wheels slowly brings us to the top. The view is magnificent. I can't believe my eyes. And to be able to experience this with Michael...it's overwhelming.
"Michael...this is just perfect. You're life must be perfect."
I look over at Michael who looks upset.
"What's wrong, Michael?"
He shakes his head and looks out into the distance.
"It's nothing."
"Michael, you're a terrible liar."
He looks at me and smiles. "Really?"
I nod. "Now, tell me."
"My life isn't perfect. Right now, it's far from it."
"Why?"
"Well, there aren't many people like you around me. You know, people who like to have fun and play around. There's not many...well there's none around me until I come here. All my workers like to joke and have fun."
I nod. "Well, it sounds like I have a lot of work to do."
Michael looks at me. "What do you mean?"
"Well, like my mother use to tell me, I'm an endless realm," then Michael joined in, "where sunshine bounces on forever. No horizon, no depth, crystal blue sky."
I laugh. "You remembered. "
The ferris wheel starts bringing us back down.
"Well, yeah, I mean, it was beautiful the first time. Second time's a charm, but what does that have to do with what you said?"
"I have an endless realm where sunshine bounces on forever, Michael! People love me! I bring sunshine!"
Michael laughs and nods his head, "Oh. Well, I hope it works."
"It will."
We get off the ferris wheel and go to the roller coaster. We ride it three times and get off. We go over to the merry-go-round.
"So, can you play any song on this?"
He nods. "Yeah, pretty much."
"Can you play Stayin' Alive?"
Michael laughs. "Seriously?"
"Yeah. Do you have it?"
He nods. He goes over the booth that controls the merry-go-round and does something. I can't see what he's doing. The song comes on and I start laughing.
"This is awesome. Come on, Michael, dance with me."
He laughs and shakes his head. "No...I'm shy."
"Oh, come on."
He laughs again. "You enjoy yourself."
I shrug my shoulders. I get on the merry-go-round and start dancing around it. Every time I go back to where Michael is, I'm doing a different dance. Michael laughs every time.
I love making him laugh. I love making people laugh in general. When it makes it back to Michael he isn't there. I look around, but I don't see him. This is weird.
"Michael!"
"AAAHHH!"
I jump and turn around. Michael is laughing his ass off on the ground. I laugh and give him a playful punch.
"You ass!"
I help him up.
"Let's go get some cotton candy!"
I laugh. "Ok, Michael."
Early That Morning
Michael and I are sitting outside in his lawn chairs watching the sky. We've been talking about everyday stuff. I've had the best time so far. We rode rides and had cotton candy. He even put a piece of cotton candy on my nose. I chased him around until he fell over laughing. I put cotton candy all over him, then he pulled me down into the grass and got me back again. It was a great time.
"Michael?"
"Yeah?"
"Could you teach me how to do the moonwalk?"
He laughs. "Sure."
We stand up and he shows me first. Then he demonstrates.
"If I'm starting with my right foot, I stand on the ball of my foot, and push off with that leg. My left foot is flat on the ground the entire time, then you just slide it against the floor and go backwards."
I stand on the ball of my right foot and push. My left foot slides against the floor just like he said. I jumped up and down with excitement.
"I did it, Michael!"
He laughs. "You did!"
As I was standing there, so close to Michael, I smelled something sweet. Almost like flowers.
"Michael?"
"Yeah?"
"What are you wearing?"
He looks down at his clothes.
"Well, I looked better, but you decided to cover me in cotton candy."
I laugh. "No, I mean what kind of cologne are you wearing?"
"Oh, well, I get fragrances from designers and I tend to mix them sometimes accidentally, so, I have no idea."
We laugh.
"Whatever it is, Chris needs some. His cologne is so strong, I can't stand it sometimes."
"Chris?"
"Oh, I forgot to tell you. I have a boyfriend. His name is Chris Towel."
"Towel?"
Michael starts laughing. I start laughing as well.
"I knew you'd find that funny. He doesn't."
"He needs to loosen up."
I nod. "Agreed."
My phone begins to vibrate. I look at it and its a text from Chris. He's asking where I am.
"I have to go, Michael. I'll text you later."
Michael seemed down, but said, "Ok. I'll see you later, Sky."
We hug. As I walk out to the gate, I can smell Michael on me. I smell my shirt and close my eyes. He smells so good.
