Chapter 8
Hiccup smiled at her when she entered the kitchen. "Hello," He said childishly. Astrid smiled at him. "Good morning, again," She said. Hiccup raised a finger, "Technically, we didn't say, "Good morning," because Toothless burst into the room and interrupted our beauty sleep," He said.
Astrid snorted, "Beauty sleep," She said and laughed under her breath. "Astrid...you were staring at me. Don't deny that," He pointed out. She blushed and looked away.
Damnit. I thought I was subtle about it, She thought.
"Here," Hiccup started and gave her two bowls. "The toast should be ready any time now." Astrid took the bowls and put them on the table, - the places where they've been sitting before. She turned and walked over to the fridge and freezer. "Which one is which?" She asked. Hiccup hummed and turned to look at her.
"Oh...uh, the right one is the fridge, the left one is the freezer," He said before turning back to the toaster. The bread popped out of it and he put two on each plate. Astrid opened the fridge and reached in, grabbing the milk and the orange juice.
Settling down at the table, he looked at her, feeling like he should talk to her about the singing. He thought about a way to nicely start a conversation without frightening her as he watched her pour out cereal and then milk on it.
Somewhere in the back of his mind, he was glad she wasn't one of those, "milk first and then cereal." people because, come on, it's cereal first and then milk.
Astrid looked up when she noticed that he was just sitting there. "Hiccup? You okay?" She asked and looked at him. He blinked a couple of times before smiling. "Yeah. I was just thinking about something," He said.
"What were you thinking about?" Astrid asked and put her elbows on the table, leaning forward to show her interest.
"Oh. I...well, I heard you singing in the shower and I think you have a beautiful singing voice," He said with a big smile on his lips.
Astrid bit her lip and leaned back into the chair, covering her face with her hands. "Oh my gods, I can't believe you heard me. This is so awkward. I am never singing again," She said, complaining into her hands.
"No, no, no, you should sing more often. I love your voice and you sound amazing," Hiccup said, trying to encourage her. "What song was that, by the way?" He asked.
Astrid pulled her hands away from her face. She was probably fifty shades of red but she gave a small smile to him. "Thank you. It was a song by Julia Brennan called A Light To Call Home."
"Well, I don't know what that Julia sounds like but you definitely outdid her. She must be so jealous," Hiccup said and watched her expression change from embarrassed to happy.
"You're such a hopeless romantic," She said and shook her head.
Hiccup shot her a smirk before saying, "How is it hopeless if you're here?" And chuckling.
"I-you-we...be quiet, Hiccup," She fumbled and started eating, her face burning up.
Did he just confess...? She was confused.
Glancing up at him, she saw him smile at her and she cursed herself for being so sensitive. She looked down at her cereal, pulling up a spoonful.
Do I love him? Is this what love feels like? She asked herself. I mean, I want to hug him and cuddle with him and watch movies with him, go on dates...I want to kiss him.
Astrid looked up without raising her head and she looked at him eating. Her heart skipped a beat when she saw him. Even when he was eating, he was handsome.
I definitely love him. Oh god, this will either be the best thing that's ever happened to me or this will be the biggest mistake ever. I will either marry this man or get dumped, She thought.
Astrid resumed eating, not being able to think about anything other than one certain auburn haired, green-eyed young man.
