Chapter 49
Flipping though the pictures from their wedding on his laptop, he smiled and stopped to look at one of photos of him, Astrid and Abigail.
It was taken just outside of church, not far from the venue. The early April sun had been shining brightly, highlighting every feature on his wife and his daughter. Of he had to say it, he hadn't looked too bad himself either, - at least in that picture.
They had many pictures taken for memories sake and also did a "photo shoot" of Abigail.
This particular picture was Hiccup's favorite and he wanted to get it printed and framed. He had been standing beside Astrid, both of them holding Abigail.
His daughter had been dressed in a peachy-pink dress with a flower crown on her head, her whiteish-blonde hair naturally wavy at the ends and her eyes shining brightly. A small smile lit up her tiny face.
Abigail was like the angel he never thought he needed but now that he had her, he couldn't live without her.
Barely passing the eight month mark, he already knew she would be an incredibly pretty girl and he had cradled her in his arms one night and vowed to her that he'd always protect her, no matter what.
He would. He'd keep guys out of her life for as long as he could and if the time actually came to let her go, he'd make sure the guy she'd be with was decent and loving.
The front door opened and a smile slipped onto his lips when he heard baby laughter. Astrid talked in and hung the car keys on the hook, - she had taking on lessons both from Hiccup and a school so he didn't have to drive her everywhere when he had work to do.
Standing up from the table, he walked up to greet her. "Hello, M'lady," He said and kissed her. Abigail giggled. "Dada!" She exclaimed and his heart melted every time he heard her say that.
"Hello there, baby girl," He said and kissed her cheek.
"Hey," Astrid said softly and adjusted her grip on Abigail, her arm growing tired. "Here, I'll take her," Hiccup said and reached out. Astrid passed her daughter to her husband and reached up, placing her hand on his cheek.
He looked at her and leaned into her touch, the ring cold against his skin.
She nodded and he looked at her for a moment before his lips turned upwards.
After their wedding, they had waited a couple of weeks to sleep with each other again, - but talking about it nonetheless - to let Astrid's body re-settle after childbirth.
He'd always been open to the idea of more kids. Astrid had been hesitant, - not because she didn't want more or because she didn't love Abigail because she did - but she was hesitant if it was maybe too early for another one.
Visiting a gynecologist, she had confirmed that it was perfectly okay to have another one and if she wanted to wait, that would be fine too.
That had settled her nerves and she had decided to wait a few weeks after the wedding before trying again.
Hiccup pulled her in and kissed her cheek, hugging her tightly with one arm.
Astrid wrapped her arm around his waist and smiled. Hiccup lifted his head and looked at his daughter.
"You're gonna be a big sister," He said, laughing breathily.
Abigail blinked at her father with big eyes before she laughed happily.
Slowly pulling away and putting her down onto the floor to let her play with her toys, he watched Toothless and Stormfly surround her, - playing like the best friends they had become.
"Come here, you beautiful woman," Hiccup said and grabbed her hand, pulling her against him.
Astrid laughed. "Will you ever stop being a cheesy dork?" She asked as she placed her hands on his chest.
"Never. Not when it comes to such a beautiful woman like you," He confessed and pressed kisses against her forehead, temple, cheek, nose and lips.
"Come on, you have to stop sometime. You're not gonna keep that up forever, are you?" She asked and looked at him with a serious face.
Hiccup smile faltered when he saw her expression. "Why wouldn't I? You don't think I'll stop loving you in a few years and stay married to you just because, do you?" He asked.
Astrid looked away with a shrug. "Oh, come on," He said and grabbed her shoulders. "I love you," He said, voice harsh and determined. "I married you because I love you. I'm staying because I love you. I love you, Astrid. I have, I do and I will. No matter how insecure you get, never forget that. I'm never leaving, okay?" He asked and softly grabbed her hand, pressing his lips against the back of it.
"I know, I just...I don't even know. Sorry for thinking like that. You're right. You love me," She said with a smile. "Sorry, i get lost sometimes. My past is still haunting me, you know."
"I know. Just...don't think that I'll leave you because I'm here for the long run," He said with a smile and grabbed her cheek, kissing her passionately.
Astrid nodded into the kiss, believing her husband.
He was right. How could she even think he'd leave her after everything? Of course he would be there for her. They had promised eternity to each other after all.
She was sure her insecurities wouldn't disappear overnight but she knew they'd disappear after a while.
Until then, she'd appreciate the time she got with Hiccup. From dorky nerd to the most loving human being she'd ever known.
She had no idea she would ever be so lucky but she was thankful. Fate had brought them together and she'd never regret anything she'd done.
Astrid had thought about her life and how it would be if she hadn't moved back when she was seventeen and it wasn't pretty.
She did the right thing when moving back. If she hadn't, she wouldn't have been so happy, carefree and living.
Hiccup made her life better and she'd forever thank him for that.
