Chapter 48

(A/N: I know it's a lot of time skipping but this book is coming to a finish.)

Hiccup inhaled when his mother walked up to him, a smile on her face. "Hey," She greeted before her eyes dropped to his fly. Reaching up, she tightened and straightened it before placing her hand on his cheek.

"I've been dreaming about this day since you were born and here you are, happy, having a daughter and getting married any second now," Valka said, tears brimming her eyes.

Hiccup looked at his mother with a smile. "Thank you. I couldn't have been happier," He said softly, watching as their guests found their place and then watching Fishlegs play with Abigail to keep her from crying.

"Did you see Astrid by the way? What does she look like?" He asked in anticipation, not being able to wait to see his bride.

"She's like an angel."

Hiccup sobbed audibly at the thought. "Oh gods," He whispered, imagining her looking as beautiful as ever, walking towards him to confess eternity to him.

He was so lucky.

"You'll see in a few minutes, I promise. I'm so proud of you," Valka said and pressed a kiss to his forehead before pulling back. "And your father would be so proud of you too."

He thanked her with a tight hug before watching her stride off towards the front row seats where Fishlegs was sat with Abigail in his lap.

Suddenly, the Wedding March song started playing on the pipe organ on the floor above him in the church and Hiccup jumped before his eyes flew over to the door.

He spotted the camera men, - one recording and one taking photos for memory's sake - standing on each side of the door before it opened outwards.

His breath caught as his eyes traveled up the bottom of the dress, slowly going past the waistline, over the lace on her chest and then landing on her face.

Her waist long hair was loose and curled naturally into loose waves at the ends, framing her face and falling down around her like a beautiful curtain of gold.

His eyes stung and he had no idea how to stop the tears from falling. He raised his hand to wipe the tears from his eyes, wanting to brush his fingers through his hair, - a habit Astrid loved - but stopped when he touched the green flower crown around his head.

Even from yards away, he could see tears glistening in her eyes and he couldn't hold his emotions back.

This woman...he'd loved her since the first moment he'd seen her and thought it'd be hopeless to ever get her to like him after she moved away. Then, when he started out as a substitute at school, there she had been, grown up and looking more beautiful than he had ever imagined she could be.

He remembered that they'd shared a gaze for a few moments and he hoped she remembered who he was. When she had looked away with a shrug, he had been heartbroken.

Who knew that becoming a teacher would lead to a wedding? His wedding. Their wedding.

His eyes landed on Abigail for a second. God, he had a daughter. Sometimes, he would wake up and think he was single when the bed was empty beside him and his heart would shatter at the cruel dream but then he'd walk out and find her there, feeding their daughter on the couch.

This was what he wanted since he first saw her. He wanted her friendship, to know her dorky and shy side. To be beside her and to support her. He had hoped she'd like him and now...

Her touch brought him out of his thoughts. Astrid softly wiped his tears away and let out a breathy laugh. "You're...you're divine," He said softly, taking ahold of her hand.

Astrid only nodded, tears threatening to spill from her eyes.

The priest looked at them with a smile. If he had to be honest, he'd attended over hundreds of weddings but none had been this loving and he hadn't seen the groom break down the way Henry had.

He truly believed they'll love each other for eternity and beyond.

Hiccup gave the priest a small nod and he smiled.

The man raised his hand and everyone sat down. "We are gathered here today to witness the marriage of Astrid Hofferson and Henry Haddock," He said and looked at each of them when saying their names.

"Hell yeah!" Tuffnut yelled and everyone shushed him. Hiccup laughed along with Astrid. Valka only shook her head with a small smile.

"Do you have any vows you want to share?"

Hiccup nodded softly, his hands squeezing Astrid's.

He didn't need a damn paper to confess his love for her. It came from the heart and he didn't need to rehearse it.

"Astrid..." He started softly, shaking his head. "God, Astrid...you're...you're perfect in every single way and I can't believe I got to know you. You're beautiful and amazing and talented and I've loved you ever since I laid my eyes on you," He said, his voice failing him. "You've been through hell and back and you've experienced things no one should but that has made you the person you are today."

Astrid watched him, not being able to hold back the tears anymore. Hiccup reached up and wiped them away, thankful for her not wearing makeup other than mascara and some highlighter.

"You let me into your life and into your heart. You trusted me, believed in me and supported me when I didn't myself. You were there when I lost my father and my foot. You've been there though everything even when you went through stuff yourself," He said softly, voice cracking.

"You...you gave me a daughter. You decided to keep her and gave me a miracle. I'll never be able to repay you for doing that but I'll try. I'll try to be the best that I can for you and for Abigail. I'll try to be a good husband, a good father and a good mayor, I promise," Hiccup finished, sobbing as he watched her cry in front of him.

Astrid shook her head. "You don't have to try. You're good enough just as you are and I'd never change that for anything in the world. You were determined to help me feel better when I was at my lowest. I never knew what I needed to be happy, - I didn't even think I'd ever be happy - but it was you. You were my happiness and I never want to loose that. Yes, I lost my parents at a young age and no matter how hard that is, I can live with that. Loosing you though...I can't. I can't loose the person who's been there every single day of my life," Astrid said softly with a smile, watching Hiccup's every expression.

"No matter how hard each day is or what mood I'm in, you're there. You lighten my mood and brighten my life with your kisses and hugs and even your dorky-ness. I never thought I needed this. I never thought I needed you but now...I can't live without that. Without you. I promise to be there each and every day of your life...only if you promise me that too," Astrid said, looking at him with hopeful eyes.

Hiccup exhaled with a smile, nodding. "I do. I promise you that," He said and took her cheeks into his hands.

Placing her hands on his forearms, she smiled at him. "Good. I do too."

"...I guess that declares it," the priest said and grabbed the rings from beside him. Giving them the respective rings, Astrid took Hiccup's left hand into hers, sliding the ring onto his finger with a smile.

Hiccup watched her carefully, the feeling of the cold ring sliding onto his finger reminding him that it's actually happening.

Taking her hand into his, he saw goosebumps form on the back of her hand and he gave her a smile. Nodding, he slowly slipped the ring he'd bought onto her finger, relieved that it fit perfectly.

"I now declare you, Mr. and Mrs. Haddock! You may now kiss your bride," The priest said as he held his book against his heart.

Hiccup smiled brightly and grabbed her waist, pulling her against him and grabbing her cheek before pressing his lips against hers in a passionate kiss.

Cheering was heard and it echoed throughout the church. Astrid saw flashes of white against her eyelids and smiled, wrapping her arms around his waist and neck.

Pulling back moments later, she leaned her forehead against his. "I love you, you dork," She whispered. Hiccup tightened his grip around her and smiled. "I love you more, wifey," He said with a chuckle.

She shuddered in his arms and pulled back, looking at him.

"We're actually married?" She asked in disbelief. Hiccup smirked at her. "Yes, we are, M'lady. You're not regretting marrying all this?" He said and looked down at himself. "Not at all," She said with a smile before leaning in and kissing him again.

"Care to have this dance, love?" Hiccup asked as he stood up from the table beside her. Astrid looked at him before looking at his hand.

Taking ahold of it, she let him pull her up. "I'd love to," She said with a smile.

Hiccup looked at the DJ they'd hired with his portable speakers and nodded at him. Getting a nod back, the music stopped and another one came up not long after.

Placing his hand on his wife's waist (he'll never get tired of hearing that Astrid was his wife) he pulled her closer and placed her hands on his chest and shoulder.

Not sure if you know this
But when we first met
I got so nervous I couldn't speak
In that very moment
I found the one and
My life had found its missing piece

The music started off slow, as did their dance, rocking back and forth, giving each other smiles and small kisses along with squeezes and hugs mid-dance.

So as long as I live I love you
Will have and hold you
You look so beautiful in white
And from now till my very last breath
This day I'll cherish
You look so beautiful in white
Tonight

Hiccup had selected this song when he had heard it on the radio years ago. He'd knew he wanted to use this for his wedding, - whoever it might've been for.

Always hoping it would be Astrid, he'd been exited but he had accepted it if it would've been someone else.

Now that he was actually married to said blonde and dancing with her...he couldn't imagine someone else.

What we have is timeless
My love is endless
And with this ring I say to the world
You're my every reason you're all that I believe in
With all my heart I mean every word
So as long as I live I love you

He loved her endlessly and couldn't imagine waking up to anyone other than her. Seeing blonde hair cascade all over the bed had become a habit and he'd probably panic if he suddenly saw a brunette or someone other than Astrid laying there.

Will have and hold you
You look so beautiful in white
And from now till my very last breath
This day I'll cherish
You look so beautiful in white
Tonight

He couldn't wait to grow old with her. He'd known so many people that had said, "I'm so scared of growing old," but now...he couldn't wait. He couldn't wait to see her grow, develop and turn grey haired and more beautiful than she already was.

He wanted to hear Abigail say, "I've never seen anyone love someone as much as my dad loved my mom," to her friends. He couldn't wait for any of it.

And...maybe if he was lucky...they would be blessed with another child. He'd be more than happy with only Abigail but he couldn't mind twins or even triplets.

He'd welcome as many as he got blessed with and would love each and everyone of them equally.

And if a daughter is what our future holds
I hope she has your eyes
Finds love like you and I did

Astrid looked up at her husband, not really understanding that she was actually happy and married to the love of her life.

Yeah, but when she falls in love we let her go
I'll walk her down the aisle
She'll look so beautiful in white
You look so beautiful in white
So as long as I live I love you
Will have and hold you

You look so beautiful in white
And from now till my very last breath
This day I'll cherish
You look so beautiful in white
Tonight
You look so beautiful in white
Tonight

The song ended slowly, as did their dance.

People clapped and a few whistled when Hiccup pulled her in and kissed her deeply.

Astrid laughed when he pulled back, looking at her in disbelief.

"I love you so much, Astrid," He said softly, kissing her temple. "How much?" She teased. "Enough to spend the rest of my life with you and raise our daughter together," He said, showing his lopsided smile.

"I know, you dork. I know," Astrid said and ran her fingers through his auburn mop, flower crown removed after the ceremony, - to not risk flowers falling into their food - and smiled at him.

He kissed her again, holding her tightly, thankful for having her and making him as happy as he was at that moment.
