Chapter 46
Hiccup stepped out of his car, locking it and inhaling deeply as he looked at the sign above the store.
Little Treasures.
A surge of happiness flew through him and he smiled, walking forward and pushing open the door to the jewelry store an hour away from Berk.
Today was the day.
"Hello, welcome to Little Treasures. Can I help you?" An aged woman asked, - she had to be in her 60s - and smiled at him.
He smiled back and walked up to the counter, his prosthetic making a small clicking sound with every step.
"Hello. Yes, I'm thinking of buying wedding rings for me my fiancé," He said and put his hands on the counter, proudness making his muscles tighten and he tried to hold back a huge smile.
The grey-haired woman eyed him. "Fiancé? Oh. Tell me a little about her- if it is a she of course!" The woman exclaimed quickly and waved her hands with an awkward smile.
Hiccup chuckled and pulled out his phone. "It is a her, yes," He said with a small smile and showed the woman a picture of Astrid sitting on the couch with Abigail sleeping in her arms and the cats curled up beside her.
"Oh, she's gorgeous. Is that your...?" She trailed off and motioned at the baby in the picture. "Daughter. Yes. Astrid gave birth to her about two months ago. Best thing that has ever happened to me. I asked her to marry me right after delivery without a ring," He said, shrugging lightly.
The woman nodded understandably.
It wasn't obligatory to propose with a ring. You didn't even have to get married with a ring. It really is only an object that today's norms say ties two people together.
"So, how is she? I wanna know a little about her to know what kind of ring would fit her. And about you too," She said and smiled.
"Well," Hiccup started and shifted on his legs, standing on his right. "She's amazing and extremely caring. She used to do cheerleading in school and still enjoys doing it, - although I tell her not to sometimes and to be careful," He said with a chuckle before continuing. "I couldn't imagine my life without her, - even if I did have a scare almost a year ago," He said and cleared his throat.
"Why?"
"Well, she's been struggling with her mental health ever since her parents died in a car crash and she was suicidal. A year ago, I was in a car accident and the hospital called her up and told her that I possibly wouldn't make it. She tried to kill herself..." Hiccup said, trailing off and his voice cracking at the thought of possibly loosing Astrid forever.
"Oh, I- I'm sorry," The woman apologized sincerely before shaking her head softly.
"Anyway, I might know what would fit on her," The aged woman asked and was about to walk away before turning back. "Do you know what ring sizes you two have?" She asked.
Hiccup scratched his head. "Her ring finger is thinner than my pinkie...is that enough?" He asked with a nervous chuckle.
The woman laughed.
"We can measure you after I get the rings," She said before walking away.
Hiccup nodded before feeling his pocket vibrating. Getting his phone out of his pocket, he opened the message app and looked at what she had sent.
When will you be back? Abigail missed her daddy.
Hiccup smiled and started typing.
Are you sure it's Abigail missing me? I think it might be one certain blonde, blue-eyed beauty doing that.
He knew Astrid rolled her eyes before he saw the three bubbles appear again.
Oh, hush it, you. Of course I miss you too but she's been crying since you left and I can't get her to stop. You know she's daddy's girl.
Hiccup chuckled. Abigail has attached herself to him a few weeks after birth and he knew she'd definitely be daddy's girl. He didn't mind, of course. It only gave him a bigger reason for him to spoil her with plushie bears and flowers when she became older.
Right. He had to buy flowers on his way home. He almost forgot.
I know. I'll be home in a few hours. I promise. I love you, M'lady.
His heart jumped when he got her text.
I love you too, you big, handsome dork.
No matter how many times he'd hear and see her say it, his heart always skipped a beat. She was special in every single way and he couldn't wait until he could kiss her on the alter after promising eternity to her.
"-here are the rings I was talking about," The woman said, interrupting him mid-thought.
She put down two different ones and one caught his eye. She had placed two completely different rings onto the counter, one big and bulky and the other one was small and simple.
"Which one do you think she'll-" Hiccup interrupted her immediately and grabbed the box containing the small, round ring. "Definitely this one. She loves simple things and this would look perfect on her," He exclaimed happily.
The woman laughed and pulled out another ring. "I had a feeling you'd choose that one so I brought you the matching pair to it," She said and gave him the other one.
It had the same rose gold finish with three small diamonds matching the ones in his other hand.
"These are perfect."

He left the store with a big smile on his face, perfectly fitted rings in his jacket pocket and heading towards a flower shop to get a nice bouquet for Astrid when he got home.

Opening the door to their house, - his father's old house due to them having to move in - he was met with baby laughter.
"Finally! You're back-" Astrid said But was interrupted by him grabbing her waist and pulling her against him forcefully, his lips crashing onto hers in a passionate kiss.
"Mpphht!" Astrid hummed as her hands landed on his chest.
Once he pulled back, she looked up at him with half-lidded eyes. "What was that for?" She asked, her breath shaky.
Hiccup bared a smile at her as he gave her the flowers. "Call the bridal store tomorrow. You're getting your dress," He said before pressing a kiss to her cheek and then walking up to his daughter playing on the ground, a smirk on his face.
