Chapter 41
Hiccup sighed in contentment as he gripped the handles on the glass doors of the shower and walked out of the shower cabin. The now familiar sound of his Lytra shower prosthetic on the vinyl floor rang in his ears and he let the cabin doors close behind him as he stepped out.
Hiccup grabbed a towel and wound it around his waist, securing it by tucking it in. He carefully walked over to the sink and looked into the mirror, looking at himself.
His wet hair made him look younger than what he really was and made him resembled his younger, fifteen-year-old self.
A knock on the door brought him out of his thoughts and he turned towards the door, even if it was locked. "Babe? It's Astrid. Let me in for a second?" He heard and carefully walked over to the door and opened it.
Astrid's face appeared before him and she walked in, closing the door behind her.
The cool air flowed in to the bathroom from the hall and it made his body steam from the warm water he had showered in. "Hey," He said softly and looked down at her.
"Hey. Sorry, I just came in to brush my teeth. I forgot I had my toothbrush in here and not in the other bathroom."
Hiccup laughed.
After doing everything they've done, getting ready together wasn't awkward at all. Astrid picked up her toothbrush and ran it under the water for a few seconds before putting toothpaste on it and starting to brush her teeth.
Hiccup grabbed a smaller towel and ruffled it into his hair, drying it. Astrid smiled at him before she continued.
Already slightly air dried, Hiccup picked up his own toothbrush. However, when Astrid grabbed her hair to not let it fall into the sink, her shoulder got exposed and he leaned down for a second to kiss it.
The blonde's movements stopped and she looked up into the mirror to look at her boyfriend. He smiled at her before giving her another kiss on the shoulder.
Hiccup pulled back and wetted his toothbrush, putting the paste on it and then starting to brush his teeth too. Halfway done, Astrid finished and ran some water over her toothbrush to slightly clean it before putting it back into the cup.
Turning towards him, she took in the sight of him half-naked in front of her, only a towel around his waist and the waterproof prosthetic.
She had learned that no matter how uncomfortable he got emotionally by it, he would walk around with a Transtibial Prosthetic with a pylon rod as his leg instead of trying to hide it with a prosthetic that looked like an actual leg.
People around town already knew he had gotten into a car crash that had cost him, his father's life and his leg so there wasn't anything to be ashamed about.
Hiccup brushed his teeth as he looked between her and the mirror.
Smiling, Astrid presses her lips against his collar for a second before pulling away. She let him finish up with getting dressed and started heading towards the door.
Hiccup quickly finished brushing his teeth and just before she disappeared out the door, he grabbed her wrist, twisted her around and pulled her in for a kiss.
Staying there for a few moments, Hiccup brushed his hand through her golden locks that were hanging over her shoulder. Pulling away, he looked at her. "I'll be done in a few minutes. We can leave the house soon, okay?" He asked and Astrid smiled. "Take your time, babe. There's no hurry, whatsoever," She said before leaning up and pressing a kiss to his cheek.
Hiccup hummed as he watched her leave, her body wrapped in a baby blue silk robe that was tied just above her bump.
It was slightly longer than the average over-the-knee robe but she liked that. And Hiccup thought she looked stunning in it nonetheless.
Her blonde hair was naturally curly at the ends and it framed her so perfectly. Sometimes he asked the gods if the Viking goddess Freya had descended from the cloudy kingdom and blessed him.
She was truly perfect to him and he wouldn't want to change anything about her. He just wished he could take away all those years of sadness and replace them with happiness.
Hiccup shook his head, bringing himself out of his thoughts. He finished up as fast as he could and walked out from the bathroom once he had removed his shower prosthetic and exchanged it with his Transtibial one.
Astrid stood in the kitchen when he walked out, making a few sandwiches both for now and on the go. Hiccup walked up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist, letting his hands rest on her stomach.
He placed his chin on her shoulder and buried his nose into her hair and neck. Astrid squirmed when his chin touched her shoulder. His stubble wasn't that long but she still felt it prickling her skin.
"I love you, Astrid," Hiccup whispered, his lips moving beside her ear.
Goosebumps formed on her skin and she shuddered before placing everything on the counter and turning around. His face was a mere inch away from hers and she smiled, leaning in and pressing her lips to his forehead. "I love you more, handsome," She said before turning back and putting the sandwiches in small plastic bags.
"I doubt that," Hiccup said and watched her pack down the sandwiches into a backpack. "But I do and you can't say anything about it," Astrid teased and blew him a raspberry as she grabbed a few bottles of carbonated water from the fridge.
Hiccup huffed at her, a smile on his face. "Not fair!" He complained as if he was a child. Astrid laughed at him while putting the water into the backpack and zipping it shut.
Just as she wanted to put it on her back, Hiccup grabbed the strap on the top and pulled it away from her.
"You're pregnant and it's heavy. That's a big no, no," He said and put the backpack on himself. Astrid rolled her eyes.
"I'm pregnant, not disabled. I can walk just fine."
"You won't once I'm done with you," He said under his breath, snickering.
Astrid turned around and gave him a weird look. "Excuse me?" She asked and watched him. "Nothing," He said quickly and threw his hands up.
"Oh my gods. Come on, lover boy," She said and grabbed the car keys, throwing them at him.
Hiccup caught them with one hand and watched her slip her shoes on before walking out of the house.
He rolled his eyes with a smile.
"She's really something," He said. Toothless meowed and he turned to look at the two cats. "Don't burn down the house while I'm gone," He said and motioned to the cat that he was watching him before stepping out of the door and closing it behind him.

Astrid turned the keys in the door and unlocked it. Slowly opening it, she was met with a cold, dark and empty house. Slowly stepping in, she looked around. Everything was still in the same place as when she left except for a light sheet of dust covering everything.
Her eyes turned towards a door beside the staircase and she gulped. Slowly walking up to it, she opened it and walked down the stairs to the basement.
Boxes on top of boxes were stacked at a corner with different labels like, "Christmas," and, "Halloween," and, "Clothes." One box caught her eye. It was labeled as, "Pictures," and she knew they were pictures of her parents.
Hiccup walked down the stairs and walked up behind her. "Wow, there are so many boxes," He said and walked over to them. "Yeah. All of this stuff were the things my parents used to own. They've barely been used since they passed away," She said and walked over to them.
Grabbing the box labeled as, "Pictures," she wanted to take it down but Hiccup offered to help.
Putting it down, she slowly sat down beside it and opened it. "This is full of pictures of my parents," She said as she opened it.
The first picture she saw was a family portrait from 2008, - a year or two before the car crash. Hiccup sat down beside her and wrapped an arm around her shoulder. Astrid rested her head on his collar as she looked at the picture.
"You were beautiful then too," Hiccup said and kissed her temple. "Thanks," She said, her voice cracking.
Hiccup didn't say anything. He just pulled her closer and held her tighter, reassuring her that he was there for her.
They sat there for a while, looking at other pictures and talking about them before Hiccup looked over and noticed something in the box. Reaching in, he pulled out a frame full of hearts and flowers and the words, "Best Friends," on it.
"Astrid, look," He said and handed the picture to her. "That's...us. When we were smaller," She said, not believing her eyes. "I always wondered who this guy was when I moved back here but I couldn't ask anyone about it. I had no idea it would be you."
Hiccup smiled and looked at her. "Astrid, I was there for you when we were smaller. I'm here for you now and I will always be there for you in the future. I'll never let you go," He said before placing his hand on her stomach. "And now I got this little miracle. Even if life's hard right now, I have you to keep me going. And I have a child I'll need to be there for when he or she grows up. I'm always here," Hiccup said and held her tight. He pressed his lips against her head and stayed there for a while, running his hand over her stomach.
Astrid smiled at him. "Thank you. You're so much more than what I deserve. I love you."

For the next hours, they looked through the boxes and sorted out a few things of each for them to keep. Astrid said she didn't need the pieces of furniture anymore and Hiccup called a second hand to ask if they could load the things up and take them away. Everything happened so fast. They came, loaded the stuff up, - everything from furniture to rugs to the boxes. Astrid gathered all of her clothes and took them with her to the car.
Barely a few hours after they first arrived at the house, they stood at the door again, ready to close it and lock it one last time.
"This is it. I'm moving out of this house I grew up in and starting a new life. I want to leave this behind me," Astrid said and placed her hand on the doorframe. "Thank you for all of these memories," She said before locking the door.
This was the house she grew up in and she had a connection to it. Leaving was hard but she couldn't think of the past. She had Hiccup. And she was pregnant for Thor's sake. Smiling, she pulled the key out of the door, sighing happily.
"This is the start of something new," Hiccup said behind her with a grin. It took her a moment or two before she turned around and looked him in the eyes with an annoyed face. "Really? High School Musical? What the fuck, Hiccup?" She asked and slapped his chest.
"Just trying to lighten the mood, love," He said while chuckling. Astrid rolled her eyes and walked up to the car.
"Come on, slowpoke. We still have to meet your mom at the other house."
Hiccup rolled his eyes but smiled nonetheless.
