Chapter 39

(A/N: Set three months after they got out of hospital.)

Toothless yawned from atop of Hiccup's stomach, curled up into a fuzzball and snoozing quietly.

Hiccup was looking at his phone, - he had to get a new one due to his old one shattering in the crash - and scrolled through the photos of him and Astrid. He had been looking at one for a few minutes now, - the one Ruffnut had sent him.

He loved the picture because the sky was dark and cloudly over them and the only light shining onto them was from the street lights on each side of the sidewalk to the park.

Valka set down a bowl of cereal on the small coffee table in the living room in front of the couch and Hiccup looked up. "Thanks, mom," He said and went back to the picture.

"Still looking at that picture?" She asked and crouched down beside the couch, holding the armrest to not topple over.

Hiccup sighed and looked at her before looking back at the picture. "Yeah. She's beautiful," He said with a small smile. "She really is," Valka said and looked as Hiccup swiped to the next picture. It was a picture of Astrid holding Toothless and kissing his head.

Hiccup sighed. "What's wrong?" Valka asked and looked at him. "I don't know..." Hiccup started before dropping his phone beside him.

Valka stood up and sat down on the edge of the couch, starting to pet Toothless. She was about to speak up when Hiccup started talking. "I guess I just wish all of these things wouldn't have happened. I should've declined dad that day and stayed home. We wouldn't have been here. Dad would've still been Mayor, I would've still had my foot and Astrid wouldn't have been so insecure about that scar," He complained, his arms flailing all over the place.

"None of it and this is your fault. All of this was an accident. You couldn't help it and even if you did, things would've still somehow turned out this way. Please, Hiccup, don't blame yourself," Valka said and looked at her son with worry in her eyes. "You know that Astrid loves you very much. She's here for you, as am I," She said and stood up, looking down at her son with a smile. "And, that scar will fade with time."

"I know but, I hate seeing her like this."

"I know. She'll be fine, I promise. Now, eat that cereal. You need to eat something, Hiccup."

He slowly scooted up, not to disturb Toothless and somehow sat up. The black cat moved and squeezed himself into the space between the couch and his thigh. Hiccup chuckled at the cat and patted his head, murmuring, "Dork," under his breath before grabbing the bowl and placing it in his lap.

Toothless purred loudly and Hiccup chuckled, swiping his pointer along the strawberry cream in the cereal and quickly wiped it onto the cat's nose.

Toothless jolted up into a stand and sneezed, licking his paw and swiping it over his nose to get rid of the cream. He licked it off and paused for a second.

His eyes turned towards Hiccup and then the bowl. He sniffled and Hiccup burst our laughing, dipping his finger into the bowl and putting it up to the cat's nose.

"I think Toothless likes the strawberry cream, mom," Hiccup said as he watched the cat lick it off of his finger. Valka laughed and watched the two for a few moments before going back to placing the dirty dishes into the dishwasher.

Hiccup chuckled and scratched the top of his head. "You're such a stupid cat but I love you anyway," He said and pressed a kiss to the cat's forehead.

Picking up the spoon, he slowly ate the cereal.

Hiccup placed his hand on the door frame as he stood at the door to his and Astrid's room, his crutch in one hand.

Toothless meowed from the living room and Stormfly stood up from beside Astrid's hand and slowly got off the bed to not wake up the girl.

Hiccup smiled as the cat slowly walked out of the room before turning her head, looking at the bed then up at him and then walking away.

Stormfly was special but, Toothless was topping her.

Hiccup slowly walked into the room and quietly closed the door behind him, leaving a foot big gap. He limped over to the edge of the bed and sat down, undoing his prosthetic and sighing in relief at the tension on his stump.

He had gotten used to not having a foot and was okay with being without the prosthetic around the house, but that was only if he had a bandage around the remaining limb.

Only he had seen the scar on his stump and it was a rather unpleasant one and he wanted to save his mom and Astrid from it. At least, for now.

He was sure that when Astrid would be okay with showing her scar, he would too. He partly understood how she felt.

Speaking of her, Hiccup turned back and looked at the blonde resting quietly. Hiccup moved and slipped into bed slowly, placing his forearm on the bed to keep him up. He lifted his right arm and pushed his fingers between her hair, brushing them through the golden locks.

Astrid moved and her eyes fluttered open. Hiccup smiled at her and watched as she rolled over onto her back. She pulled her arm out from under the blanket and lifted it into the air to stretch.

She was wearing a loose, gray hoodie and the arm had slipped up her arm and was revealing four inches of her healing, pinkish scar.

Hiccup looked at it with wide eyes and Astrid looked over at him. She wondered what he was looking at. Her eyes flew to her wrist and she quickly pulled the hoodie down her arm.

"Astrid-" Hiccup said but was cut off. "No, Hiccup. Stop!" She said and quickly got out of bed, running her hands through her loose and wavy hair. She marched up to the door and closed it, turning back around and looking at him with a scared expression.

"Don't say anything. I know what you're going to say anyway," Astrid started and started to imitate him. "Ew, that's so disgusting. You're such a weak person. A suicidal bitch," She said, the last sentence coming out as a whisper.

Hiccup was gaping at her before he got serious. "Did you seriously just say that? Did you seriously just fucking say that? Astrid, I have been here for you ever since you bumped into me at school. I was there when you tried to kill yourself," He didn't hold back on his words. "I was there. I was the one who found you in the bathroom. What do you think you looked like? Your face was like an angel, you were so peaceful but then, there was your arm. It was fucking gaping and bleeding and you have no idea how many nights I stayed up and lost sleep just because I saw the same fucking image in my head, over and over and goddamn over again!" Hiccup said before breathing.

She was crying but he needed to say what had been bothering him for so long. "Astrid, I was there. I saw you and I still see you. You were probably not the best sight then but you're beautiful and if you dare to say that you're not, I will continue to argue with you. That scar is defining you but, it still isn't. It's there but it's not who you are. Astrid, when I was in the car crash, I was waking up and blacking out periodically. You have no idea how much pain I was in and all I saw was my dead father beside me and my crushed leg. And, barely three hours later, I almost lost you! I can't lose you. I can't..." He said, the last words coming out as a whisper.

Tears were streaming down his face but he still kept looking at her. He reached his arm out and motioned for her to come to him.

"I was there, Astrid," He said as she walked up to him. The blonde stood in front of him and Hiccup motioned for her to sit down on his leg.

His right one was perfectly fine.

Astrid hesitated but Hiccup nodded at her and she slowly sat down on his right thigh. Hiccup wrapped his arm around her waist and placed his left hand on the side of her head, resting it on his collar. "I was there, Astrid..." He said again and looked at her.

"I saw everything no one should see that day. But, I've seen all of you and all of you is perfect. You have your flaws, - as do I and everything and everyone else - but you're still perfect for me because you're you and I wouldn't change you," Hiccup said and pressed a small kiss to the corner of her mouth.

"You're perfect, Astrid," He said before pressing his lips against hers and kissing her. The tears on her face had stopped flowing a few minutes prior but her cheeks were still wet. She wrapped her arms around his body and held him as if she'd lose him.

Hiccup pulled back a few seconds after that and grabbed her right arm. He pulled her arm off of him and gazed into her eyes.

"I love all of you, Astrid," He said as he slowly pulled the shirt up. Astrid's breath caught in her throat when she felt the cold air on her scar.

"Hiccup..." She said and inhaled deeply. "I love you," He said once again before lifting her arm and pressing a kiss to the back of her hand. He slowly turned her hand and pressed a kiss to her palm, wrist and slowly pressing kisses down her scar.

Astrid winced once when he pressed a kiss to a certain spot that was still a little sore.

Hiccup pulled away and looked down at the dark pink line before looking up at her again. "You're perfect, M'lady. I love you so much," He said before he placed her hand on his shoulder and kissed her. He wrapped his right arm around her back and held her as he kissed her.

His left hand was resting on her thigh and Astrid's arms wrapped around his neck and their tongues met for a French kiss.

Staying like that for a few long moments, Hiccup smiled once they pulled away. His hand moved and found its place over her belly button and on her growing bump.

It had been announced by the doctor around four months ago that she was pregnant and her stomach was quite showing.

Astrid had been really thin even before getting pregnant and her stomach was at an awkward angle. She was very fit and could still pull off a cheerleader backflip and go down in split but he didn't let her.

"I love him too," Hiccup said and smiled. "It's probably a girl," Astrid said, her left arm around his neck to keep her steady and she rested her hand on top of his.

"How do you know that?" Hiccup asked and looked up at her. Their heads were close and she leaned her forehead against his temple. "Just a feeling," Astrid confessed and intertwined her fingers with his.

Hiccup smiled. "I'd love a girl. Gods, she looks like you and I will drop dead," He said with a crooked smile. "What if it's a boy and he'll look like you?" She asked.

"I think one of me is enough for Berk. Possibly the entire world," Hiccup said and rubbed his thumb over her hand.

Astrid laughed and looked at him. "Thank you, Hiccup. For everything," She said and kissed him.

"Anything for M'lady," He said with a playful grin before kissing her back.

She chuckled and held him as they sunk into the bed. They ended up having a make-out session for as long as they could stay up. Astrid ended up falling asleep as Hiccup pulled his shirt off to change and he laughed at her for that but fell asleep beside her not much later.
