Chapter 36
Valka walked down the hospital halls, a plastic bag in her hand with sandwiches and drinks for her son and...Astrid, she believed her name was. A beautiful young lady with golden blonde hair.
She recognized the girl from when Hiccup was a baby. She and Stoick had been good friends with the Hofferson's even years before Hiccup and Astrid had been born. She had been a good kid but after her parent's death, - Hiccup had told her everything - things had kind of gone south and here she was today, admitted to hospital because of a suicide attempt.
Valka sighed, putting the car keys into the pocket of her jacket. After having the police give her Hiccup's belongings, she had gone to the house Stoick used to live in, - the house she used to live in too - and found Hiccup's car.
Along the way, she searched up his house and entered, feeding the cats and making a few sandwiches before heading off to the hospital. She had found a small paper attached to the refrigerator with a few names and numbers.
She ended up calling a guy named Fishlegs and asked him if he wanted to take care of the two cats for a few days until she could be able to be home more. Fishlegs happily agreed and Valka later dropped them off at him after getting his address.
She told him what had happened and he had promised to call the others, telling them about the situation and that he would make sure that all of them would visit soon.
Valka sighed softly, stopping at a door. Room 167. The one Hiccup and Astrid were in. He had objected in not leaving her side so the hospital had made an exception and let them stay in the same room.
He sure had a special bond with that girl.
Valka opened the sliding door and was met with a rather pleasing sight. Both of them were sitting up, kissing. She knocked on the door frame and they pulled away.
"Sorry, I didn't want to bother you two. I just brought some food and drinks because the food here is anything but edible," She said and her lips cracked a smile. "True that," Hiccup agreed and chuckled.
Astrid wasn't having it though. She wanted to know who that woman was before agreeing with anything she said. "Excuse me but who are you?" She asked, her eyes moving between Hiccup and the woman. She had a hard time trusting people after her parents died.
"Oh, I'm sorry, Astrid. I'm Valka. Hiccup's mother," She said and walked up to her, standing beside the bed. Astrid looked at the woman with shock before she turned her head towards Hiccup.
"She's my mother, Astrid. I know, I didn't believe it either but she is and I'm glad she's here," Hiccup said and placed his hand on her shoulder, his thumb stroking her naked collar. Due to the hospital gown being so big, it hung off one of her shoulders, exposing the soft skin of her collar and shoulder.
Hiccup's eyes caught the almost-gone hickey that was left on her collar after their last time of having sex.
Astrid looked back at Valka and a small smile appeared on her lips. She lifted her right hand and looked at her. Valka took her hand and shook it softly. "Nice to meet you," They both said in unison and somehow, they both knew things wouldn't be complicated between them.

Hiccup's wince was heard in the middle of the movie they were watching. The visiting hours hadn't ended yet and Valka was sitting in a chair at the corner of the room, reading a book. She had brought Hiccup's laptop with her, - it had been sitting on the table - Astrid's phone, the chargers and a few necessities they might need like toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant, hair ties for Astrid and she snuck some snacks into a bag because she had to.
Astrid paused the movie and looked at her boyfriend. "Babe?" She asked and looked at him. "What's wrong?" She asked and in the corner of her eye, she saw Valka look up, concern written on her face.
Hiccup shook his head. "My leg is just aching. I'm fine," He said and looked over at her. Astrid nodded and was just about to play the movie again before the door opened.
Both young adults looked up and watched as a man with brownish-gray hair stepped in and turned towards them.
"Astrid Hofferson and Henry Haddock?" The middle-aged man asked. The two nodded and watched as the doctor came in and closed the door behind him. Valka put her bookmarker between the pages and closed the book, putting it down.
Even if she and the two of the young adults didn't interact much, she still liked to stay there until they had to tell her to leave because she liked to keep her eye on them and see how they were doing. She was a mother, after all.
"Good afternoon. I'm Dr. Lucas Richardson," The man said and both Hiccup and Astrid looked at each other. Valka stood up from the chair and walked over to the beds, standing on Hiccup's side and looking at the doctor.
"Is there something wrong?" She asked. The man laughed and shook his head. "No, nothing is wrong. I just wanted to check on these two and see how they're doing," He said and walked up to Hiccup's bed and grabbed the board from the front.
"Henry Haddock. Born February 29th, 1997, - 21 years old. 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing around 182 lbs. Reason for hospitalization: car crash and amputated left foot," The doctor read of the chart and looked at Hiccup. "That's gotta be me," He said with a small smile.
Dr. Lucas Richardson turned towards Astrid. "And you, young lady? Let's see what your deal is," He said and grabbed the board.
Astrid rolled her eyes, speaking up, "Astrid Hofferson. Born April 18th, 1997, - 21 years old. 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing around 143 lbs. Reason for hospitalization: attempted suicide," She said, not ashamed of saying it anymore.
"That's correct," Dr. Lucas Richardson said before he lifted the board closer to his face and inspected it. "Oh, my," He said and looked at the two. "Are you two a couple?" He asked and motioned the board between them.
Hiccup looked at him, eyebrow raised. "Yeah, why?" He asked.
The man turned towards Astrid and stared her dead in the eye. "You're pregnant."
