Chapter 26
As night started to fall over the small town, the cold was slowly creeping its way onto Astrid. She was comfortably sprawled out on the couch, watching the TV as Hiccup was sitting at the dinner table, working on something on his laptop.
Astrid sighed softly in contentment as she turned her head to look at him.
How could she ever deserve such an amazing man like him? She would be broken forever if he left her. Hiccup was truly amazing and he was her everything. A small part of her would probably never understand how she got to deserve him but she's happy to have him and she'll try to do everything to keep him, - forever.
She broke her gaze away from him and lifted her left arm, looking at her wrist. She traced the scars with her finger and sighed.
Why was she so stupid? She regretted every single scar on her, - at least the self-induced ones. She could've controlled herself but, at that time it had felt necessary. She learned that no matter what someone was going through if you're strong enough, you can fight it.
She was strong because of Hiccup.
He gave her strength and he gave her love. He had given her something she would always be thankful for; a loving home.
A home in which she wanted to stay in, forever.
She felt the couch slump down and she looked up from her wrist and met dazzling green eyes. Hiccup looked at her with such affection she had never seen before.
His hand gently grabbed hers, holding it in his palm gently. His eyes broke away from hers and he looked down at the scars. Some of them were still red, - deeper scars healed slower - while some were pinkish and some were slowly fading into a white-ish skin color.
Hiccup looked up again and he met her eyes. He gave her a small smile as he leaned down and pressed his lips against her healing skin. Astrid's breath hitched and her mouth stayed agape.
She stared at him as he lingered his kiss before slowly pulling away.
No words were needed as their eyes met. Hiccup just held her hand tighter and pulled her against him.
Her arms flew around his neck and she buried her face into his neck. Hiccup's arms laced around her waist and he held her close against him, as if she would disappear is he let her go.
Astrid squeezed her eyes shut and held him tightly.
Slowly, they were sinking down into the couch from a sitting positing. When Astrid pulled back, Hiccup's head was laying on her chest and he had an arm around her head, using his forearm as a pillow for her head.
Hiccup lifted his head from her chest and looked at her. "I promise you, Astrid, I'll always be here. I'll never leave you," Hiccup whispered softly against her chin before leaning up and pressing his lips against hers.
"Mmm," Astrid hummed before pulling away. "I promise you too. I'll never go anywhere except for home and that is where you are."
He kissed her again, smiling because he hoped and knew she'd keep that.

He groaned when he heard the sheets ruffle and a body moving out of the bed. "Astrid?" He asked and looked up, seeing her silhouette stand by the door. "I'm just gonna drink, babe," She said softly and looked at him.
The moon was lighting up the room with its silvery light.
"I'll be back in a second, I promise," She continued before disappearing out of the door. Hiccup flopped back into the bed, throwing his arm over his eyes, sighing.
A smile made its way onto his lips.
Damn, how did he deserve her? He had no idea but he was sure he would never let her go. He had thought about letting her meet the other people he used to hang out with before getting together with her.
There was his cousin, Scott, - actual name is Snotlout - the twins, Raven and Haven, - Ruffnut and Tuffnut - and Ferris - Fishlegs. For some reason, all of them had changed their names.
Oh, wait, he had to too.
Henry.
"Babe?" Astrid asked and he jerked slightly. She laughed at him. He removed his arm from his eyes and looked at her before his eyes drifted to the clock on the wall.
2:52 AM.
Astrid slowly climbed into the bed and laid down beside her boyfriend, her left hand landing on his clothed chest. Hiccup turned over from his back to his side and smiled at her. "Hey there, M'lady," He said, his voice hoarse. He cleared his throat. Astrid laughed at him and leaned in, pressing her lips to his cheek.
Astrid pulled back and leaned her head on her hand that was supported by her elbow. Hiccup closed his eyes and placed a hand on her waist, pulling her flush against him. Her stomach met his and he smiled, loving that she was so close to him.
The hand he had on her waist slipped around her back and rested on the small of her back. Astrid smiled and looked at him. He looked so calm and she loved seeing him like that.
Her hand trailed its way up the side of his neck and stopped on his cheek, her thumb caressing his skin.
"I love you," She whispered before laying down beside him and snuggling into his chest, wrapping her arm around her hip.
Hiccup murmured those three words into her hair and she hoped she would always feel this happy and content.
