Chapter 24

(A/N: Happy 4th Of July, my American friends.)

The garage door blinked and slowly opened as Hiccup and Astrid walked out the front door. "So, what do we need to get?" Astrid asked.

"Okay, first of all, we need to go food shopping. Or...maybe, we should get the fireworks first and then the food so it won't turn bad as we get the fireworks," Hiccup said, looking at his girlfriend with a smile.

"Fireworks, food. Got it," She said and walked over to the garage. Hiccup couldn't take his eyes off of her. "What?" She asked when she noticed him staring.

He smiled wider and walked over to her, placing his right hand on her waist and his left hand on her cheek, brushing away her hair before leaning in to kiss her. "You're so fucking gorgeous."

"Mhh," Astrid hummed and wrapped her arms around his back, placing her hands on the slight dimples of his back.

Sure, it had been a storm but that didn't mean it wasn't warm. Both of them were wearing shorts and a t-shirt.

Of course, Astrid's hair was always in her signature braid. She almost never took it out when going out and whenever she did, Hiccup was all over it at how long and how soft it was.

He told her, her hair looked like strings of gold growing from her head, embedded in the sunshine.

She always laughed and rolled her eyes at that even if she loved it every time he complimented her hair.

When she had been young, just above seven or eight, she hated her hair and she had tried to do everything to make it like everyone else's soft and smooth hair.

However, as she got through puberty at seventeen, both her body and her hair changed and she loved it now.

She would've loved to see Hiccup when he was small again. Maybe on a picture or something like that. She had faint memories of how he looked but, she wanted to remember it.

Pulling back, Hiccup smiled and her and leaned his forehead against hers, having to bend his neck slightly. Astrid pulled away from him and buried her face into his shoulder, her arms pulling away from him and wrapping around his neck.

Hiccup chuckled at her and wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her incredibly close. Staying there for what seemed like hours, they finally pulled away and Hiccup pressed a kiss to her cheek before letting her go and getting the car out of the garage.

"What should we get? Two twelve packs, two eight packs or two four packs?" Hiccup asked her. "I don't know, you choose," She said, holding his hand as they looked at fireworks in the store.

A worker came up to them and asked them if they wanted help. They didn't really need help but they thankfully took it. "So, what were you guys planning?" The Male asked them.

"Well, we don't want too many because-" Hiccup stopped and turned to Astrid. "Mind waiting here for a second?" He asked and before she had any time to respond, he released her and walked away with the worker.

Far enough for her not to hear it.

"I don't want too many because I want to take my girlfriend on a date later so fireworks that we can shoot in five to ten minutes without it taking too long?" Hiccup asked, his voice a little hushed.

"Oh, then I suggest taking the six pack over there. And, there's something I can offer you. Two small fireworks that you can shot on the date. One of them is a heart and the other says, "I love you." What about that?" The male worker asked him.

"Perfect."

"Then, let's get going."

They walked back to Astrid and she stood there with crossed arms, looking at him. "What?" Hiccup asked and held out his hand. Astrid refuses to take it. "Oh, come on. Don't get angry at me. You'll love it. Trust me," He said as they started walking to the counter with the worker holding the stuff.

"Okay," Astrid gave in.

She slipped her hand into his a few seconds later and smiled. Hiccup looked at her, smiling too. He quickly kissed her lips before they got to the counter.

"One six pack of fireworks," The worker said as he put the fireworks in the plastic back, smuggling the two extra fireworks into it too.

Astrid took the bag after the worker was finished packing and they walked out after paying.

Parking the car outside Walmart, they slowly got out and Hiccup locked the car as Astrid went to get a cart.

"What do we need?" She asked him. "Well, we need milk, bread, cereal, butter, meat, some greens and essentials like toilet paper, shampoo and conditioner, body lotion, hand lotion..." Hiccup trailed off, "Do you need anything?"

"I don't think so. Maybe shampoo. We're not using the same brand. Maybe deodorant, toothpaste, I for sure need a new comb since I broke mine today and...we'll see when we get there."

"Yep."

Food shopping went kinda fast. They picked up the stuff they needed, also getting cat food and pee pads because Stormfly was still a kitten. Sand to their litter box, printing paper, colors to the printer, air freshener and as they looked through the different scents, they found a machine that blows the air freshener out every now and then.

They bought four of those Airwick machines and cans of air fresher to the machine.

They for sure got home with more than enough food and essentials.

The second they got home, Hiccup started cooking some steak and salad for their picnic. When he was a kid, he had walked home from school when he found a small trail in the forest near the road. It wasn't a trail in the ground but a trail between the trees.

So, he decided to check it out, being the curious kid he was and he later found a hole between two rocks.

That led him to find a carved out cave in the ground with a small pond and waterfalls.

He later named it the Cove and always used to hang out there when he felt like it. He always drew drawings of the place there but, he hadn't been there since he was seventeen.

It would be a great place to go back too and have a date there with Astrid.

He cooked as Astrid put the other stuff into places like the shampoo and the conditioner at the shower along with the toothpaste, deodorant and the other stuff that belonged in the bathroom.

After she was done putting the stuff away, she jumped right into the Airwicks.

Taking them out of the boxes, she struggled at first to find how to put the cans into them but then, she pushed down the button at the front and pulled the front up, popping the cans into place.

She did that with all four and then went to search for AA batteries. Finding eight of them, she put two in each and then spread them all over the house. She put one their room, one of the counter in the kitchen, - the kitchen island - along with one on the bathroom they used one upstairs even if they weren't up there as much as they were downstairs.

Astrid looked at her boyfriend from the living room and walked over to him.

She got up behind him and wrapped her arms loosely around his stomach, placing her head on his shoulder.

Moving his head, she kissed his neck, on the spot where a hickey was fading slowly.

"Mhh," Hiccup hummed. "You should go and get ready," He said and finished up by putting the steak on a plate to let it cool a little. "What? Where are we going?" Astrid asked and pulled away.

Hiccup turned around and placed his hands on her cheeks, pressing a kiss to her lips. "On a date," He said before pulling away and walking away to get a basket to put the food into.

"I-we-what?"

She didn't know what to do before she got her sense back and going to the hall to put her shoes on.

•••

"Babe, where are we?" She asked him once they arrived at...she had no idea where they were except for seeing a thick forest around her.

"Come on," He said and held out his hand. She took it. "I found this place a few months after you moved away from us to your aunt. I wanted our first date to be special and this is where it is. I have everything with me. A thick blanket to sit on and a few blankets to cover us with, the food I cooked at home, umbrellas in case it's going to rain and the fireworks," Hiccup said along the way.

Reaching the entrance, Astrid looked back and realized they hadn't gone that far from the car. It was still visible through the trees.

Heck, how could it not be visible? That car is as big as a mountain. You had to be blind to miss it.

Hiccup led them through the entrance through the rocks and Astrid's breath caught in her throat when she saw the place.

"Aw, it's not as beautiful now because of the storm. It's so magical when the sun shines and the birds are flying around in here," Hiccup said.

He led them down the small cliffs and they reached the bottom of the Cove.

After getting down there, he pulled out the thick blanket and spread it out on the ground. He pulled the other blankets out, the food and the umbrellas just in case. Sitting down, they smile and covered themselves with one blanket.

Sharing body heat was always nice.

The sky started to darken and by then, they had already eaten dinner out in the open. Since it was summer, it never got fully dark until at least 2 AM but the clock had just passed 12 AM.

Just when the fireworks started.

Hiccup stood up and left the warm blanket. Astrid closed it around herself to keep the warmth for him and watched him put the fireworks in the ground in a nice line about thirty yards from them.

Lighting them, he ran back to Astrid and almost tripped making her burst out in laughter. "You dork," Astrid said while laughing and covering him with the blanket.

"Heh," Hiccup said and gave out an airy laugh before the fireworks shoot up into the sky, exploding and giving out different lights of green, red, purple and blue.

After the fireworks exploded, Hiccup pulled out two grenade looking things from his pocket. "What is that?" Astrid asked him.

"You'll see."

Hiccup took one and lit the string. Astrid jerked before Hiccup threw it away. They waited for a second or two before it flew up I to the sky and exploded, creating a heart.

Astrid was about to say something before Hiccup lit the other one and did the same thing.

It flew up into the sky, exploding and spelling, "I love you."

"Oh my gods," Astrid whispered in disbelief.

Hiccup looked at her. "I love you," He said softly, gazing into her eyes. Astrid threw herself at him and they ended up falling.

Laying half on top of him on the ground, she leaned up and pressed her lips to his, kissing him.

"I love you too," She murmured against his lips.

Getting back into the kiss, they stayed there for quite a while, occasionally pulling away to take a breath to not die because humans need air.

Hiccup pulled away and hugged her against him. Astrid hugged back and buried her face into his neck.

What Hiccup didn't realize until she made a sound was that Astrid had started crying. Pulling back, he looked at her. "M'lady, why are you crying?" He asked, his voice full of concern.

"How did I deserve this? You?" She asked, her hand slowly stroking his cheek. "I could ask the same thing. I love you, beautiful," He said before kissing her.

He guided her down into the blanket and kept kissing her. Astrid hesitated when she felt his hand travel up her stomach under her shirt. "Hiccup, I'd love to have sex with you under the starry night but, won't we get caught?" Astrid asked.

"I don't think anyone knows about this place and, if they do, they're home with their families, celebrating."

Astrid smiled. "Well, you're lucky then because this is probably the third or fourth time today," She said and wrapped her arms around his neck. "Get over here though," She said with a smile.

Hiccup smiled as he leaned down and started to recreate the hickey that had started to fade.

As more fireworks went off in the sky, fireworks went off between them as skin touched skin.

•••

Flopping down onto the blanket, the two breathed deeply, trying to catch their breath from their wild ride.

"That was exciting," Astrid said though huffs. "Uh-huh," Hiccup hummed in agreement.

Astrid smiled and turned towards him. "Thanks. I think I needed that."

"Just tell me whenever you need more of this," HIccup said with a smile before kissing her.

"Oh, don't worry. I definitely will."
