Chapter 12
Hiccup pulled in to the parkinglot in front of the vet and Astrid almost flew forward from him breaking so hastily. Getting out of the car, the car doors slammed shut behind them as they hurried inside. Hiccup locked the car before they entered the vet.
Hurrying inside, Hiccup ran up to the desk and talked to the woman sitting behind the counter. "Henry Haddock. My girlfriend called not too long ago about a cat," He said and looked towards the said blonde.
The lady behind the desk looked towards the girl before her eyes shifted back to Hiccup. "I'll get the vet," She said calmly. Hiccup nodded and walked up to Astrid. He put his hand on Toothless' head.
"T-they wouldn't euthanize him, r-right?" Astrid stuttered out, holding Toothless in her arms. The black cat looked up at her with big, green, sparkling eyes.
Hiccup looked at his best firiend with watery eyes. "I...I've had him since I was eighteen. He was a rescue cat, - the wildest and meanest one in there but we...we clicked and I took him home. He means everything to me," Hiccup said and looked at Astrid. His eyes landed on Toothless again. "You will make it, buddy. Don't worry. I'll do anything for you," Hiccup said, biting together.
The lady behind the counter came back though the door she had walked through not too long ago with an older man behind her. The vet walked up to them.
"Hello, I'm Neil Harryson. I heard you brought a cat in with an unknown injury," He said and shook Hiccup's hand. "Yes, he's right here," Hiccup said and moved, revealing the cat. "Maine Coon. Magnificent cat. Come on, I'm gonna see if i can help you, my friend," The aged man said kindy and gently took the cat from Astrid's arms.
"I'm gonna examine him thoroughly before seeing what I can go and talking to you too."
Hiccup nodded and watched the vet take Toothless away.
"I can take his information while Neil examines him?" The woman asked Hiccup.
He nodded and they walked up to the counter. "Okay, start with his breed, age and when he was born and his weight," The woman said and wrote down the things Hiccup said. "Maine Coon, born on August 20th, 2017 and he weights about twenty pounds," Hiccup said, leaning his arms on the counter.
Astrid put her hand on his and leaned her head against his shoulder.
"Noted. Is he fixed and microchipped?"
"He's not sterilised but he is chipped," Hiccup said and pulled out his wallet from his pocket, going through the different pockets in it before pulling out a post-it paper with a bunch of numbers on it. "This is his chip number," He said and gave the woman the paper who wrote it down.
The doors opened and out came the vet. Hiccup looked hopeful.
"I'm not fully sure what exactly happened but he has a large gash on his shin and the side of his thigh. The shin-bone is exposed and infected so I'd amputate it and stitch the laseration on his thigh since it's not deep. I gave him some painmeds so he won't be in pain. If you feel like it would be better to put him down, I can do that but, if not, amputation is the best," Neil said, his hands clasped together.
Hiccup looked at Astrid and she looked at him.

They sat on the edge of the couch, Hiccup's legs apart with his arms on them, leaning his head into his face. Astrid was curled up against his side, her hand on his thigh while her other hand was rubbing circles on his back.
They were waiting for a phone call.
Toothless was in surgery.

The phone rang at 7:45 PM in the evening and it made Hiccup jump up from the bed. He sprinted into the kitchen and grabbed the phone. Making sure it was the vet, he inhaled, preparing for the worst.
"It's Henry Haddock," He said, even though they knew who it was and he knew who it was.
The receptionist lady answered with a happy voice. "The surgery went well. He's now recovering in his pen. I'll write out a receipt on some antibiotics you can hide in his food. Everything will be fine as far as we know it. I would suggest letting him stay here for a few days for observation but if you want to pick him up and bring him home, that's fine too. Just try to hold him still. He'll be very shaky on his legs so try to keep him as still as possible so he won't fall and spret up the stitches."
Hiccup smiled. "Thank you. We're on our way," He said and ended the call.
Hiccup turned around and saw Astrid stand behind him, hugging herself. He put the phone down and slowly walked up to her, putting his hands on her cheeks.
"Is he...?" She asked, trailing off.
"No. He's coming home."
