Epilogue
Bethany Summers.
I waited patiently in the cafe outside the college. I was tired and wanted to go back home but it was impossible without my ride.
"I am thinking about taking a long vacation on some beach," Lyla said looking tired as hell.
"You say that every other day but we all can't afford to miss classes," Blair added.
We all joined Creative Writing, while Blair was already earning a lot through her online blogs, Lyla wrote for Fashion Magazine for her internship, I was still a struggling script writer. But that was fine because I had a hot shot boyfriend who was already in specialised crime department, a rookie but very talented.
"Where is he now? I hope not flirting with hundreds of girls around him." Lyla nudged me lightly.
I gave her a small smile of relief.
"It is a police academy not out college, there must be some no dating rule." Blair's word made her snicker.
"Here he comes." Brent Huxar, my dashing boyfriend was walking towards us.
I sighed even though I saw him daily. I was in love, romantic, sappy kind of love I dreamt of. What happened to Brax Hunter?
I and my friends named him Brent Huxar, a jumble of Brax Hunter.
He was the same guy, with the same smile, same heart that loved me with a new name.
***
The worst day of my life was when I found out that he was shot. Caring about nothing I begged Parker and Chief Morgan to take me to him. Chief Morgan said that he was dead.
I would spare you the pain of listening how I felt when I thought he was dead. I did not eat or sleep and had to get injections soon to keep me alive. After two weeks away from him, news of his death shattered me.
But when I started having severe sleep issues and dropped ten kilos making my rib cage visible as I breathe, my parents took me to meet him. The plan was altered, Parker explained it to me. When he and Blair saw someone following Brax , they alerted Chief but not Brax. Else he would have changed his course of actions.
While a team protected Brax when he went back to the gang, it was because of Toran Huan that Brax Hunter survived to become Brent. He was an almost perfect shooter. He could have shot in his head or in Brax' heart but he shot in a way that a minor surgery helped him to live.
Had it not been for his intentional mistake, Brax would have died that day and taken a part of me with him.
Now, here he was alive and handsome as ever. He changed his ID in case anyone from the gang ever tried to trace him. Chief Morgan helped him with all this. Not only they stopped some major drug deals, they also found a trained and intelligent man on their force.
"You are damn sweet Sugar." He said kissing me full on with passion.
My friends giggled at his words that worked like magic on girls.
"And you are damn late. I might have died of hunger."
He gave me an apologetic smile that he knew melted my heart.
"You have a file with you, going to a publishing house?" He asked well aware of my dreams.
I snuggled closer to him as we all started walking.
"I completed the script I have been working on," I told him with a suggestive smile.
His eyebrow raised in question.
"What have you written this time?" He asked.
"You tell me, detective, I will give you a hint."
"Okay. Tell me." He looked excited at the prospective mystery.
"It related to my sleepover antics."
It immediately clicked in his head and his eyes sparkled with understanding.
My hands unconsciously traced his pirate, a mark from his old life that was like a reminded of the person he was and I came to love.
"Your checklist." I nodded at his point on deduction.
"Which you failed terribly at first." I teased him and he pecked my forehead lightly.
"And he tried to improve, I am a witness," Blair added solemnly.
I can't believe that she and Parker helped him all along. I loved both of them too much. If only they could stop the drama and love each other as well.
"Whatever, the list was something to help me make the right choice. But when I found the best choice, the list was not as important." I gave him a big happy smile.
"How did I get a girl like you?" He mused with a looked filled with adoration.
"By getting a punch from her," Lyla added lamely.
And we all laughed out loud.
While I tried to find a boy that fits my list, Brax...or now Brent tried to be the boy in the list for me. But we all know, we loved each other just the way we were.
