Kai POV
Kai:
I was running through the forest, panting as the heavy down pour fell against my skin, dodging and avoiding the tree, barely could see 5 feet in front of me. I was running away from Union Academy, the place I came to know as hell, bullied, mistreated and treated like a problem, as I was Powerless. The students beat me daily, make me due their homework or steal my shit
The teachers, they were worse, they barely acknowledged, picked me only to fail me and make me the laughing stock or rig my grades. All to make the idiots fell smart and happy with themselves, Tch those idiots couldn't add 2 and 2 together! The Headmasters would give me lectures for being a slouch, a trouble maker and a cheat, when I hardly did shit!
I was so lost in my thoughts I didn't see the tree and hit my shoulder on it, making me stumble and fall off the ledge. I rolled down a steep landslide, failing with mud and my belongings, as I hit and scrapped against sharp pointy rocks that scratched and torn my skin. I was in absolute pain as I slammed into a massive boulder and crashed into a muddy patch
"THIS ALL YOU FUCKING GOT ASSHOLE," I yelled as I huffed in pain"COME ON! YOU'VE MADE MY LIFE A LIVING HELL SO FAR, WHY STOP NOW!!??"
Who am I yelling at? Well it's obvious...I was yelling at God.
"YOU MAY HAVE GAVE ME FRIENDS AND OTHERS THAT CARE, BUT YOU MADE THE REST HATE ME," I yelled as I wobbled to stand up,"SO WHATS STOPPING YOU FROM ENDING IT HUH!? YOU LIKE WATCHING ME SUFFER HUH, IS THAT IT ASSHOLE!!??"
I cried as I slammed my fist into the muddy ground, yelling in rage and pain. I stopped as I looked at my hands, bloody and red from the rocks, feeling the tears go down my face as I laid in the fucking mud. I panted as I looked up at the sky and yelled in pain and fury.
"FUCK YOU, I DON'T CARE IF YOUR REAL OR NOT, I WILL NEVER PRAY TO YOU," I yelled,"I HOPE YOU FUCKING PERISH IN WHATEVER HELL A NEW GOD MAKES YOU!! I DENY YOU, I WILL RATHER SKIN MY EYEBALLS AND RIP MY TOUNGE BEFORE I EVER PRAY TO YOU!!"
I panted as I closed my eyes and took control of my breathing, focusing on my next task. I got up and grabbed all my things, my clothes, which was provided by my friends and others, and food, which was covered. As I did so, I did something I haven't done ever...I prayed, not to God, not to the ones known in this world, I prayed to any outside forces of Remnant
'Please...if anyone can hear me...please give me a sign,' I prayed in thought
3rd POV
Unknown to him, or even the entire planet, that someone did hear him and the fates smiled upon him. As he gathered his belongings, the storm in the sky parted, making the first rays of sunshine shined upon him. He sighed as he looked up and he saw something in the mountain, it was a huge door, gothic in design and somehow was covered by the over hanging earth
He looked around as he stood up and walked over to it, looking it over as he planted his hand on the door, feeling the cold steel in his hands. But it didn't felt like normal steel he's handled, as he wanted to be an engineer and inventor then a Hero, as he thought being a Hero was lame. He wondered what the metal was, as it seemed other worldly
He hummed as he looked around and saw a console on the side, so he walked to it and tapped it. It frizzled a bit but it came to life and soon he saw a language he never seen, but it does remind him of old Latin, he took some courses in middle school. He reads it and soon got the basics done, using the knowledge he had from school
"Okay lets see," he said as he tapped one button
Soon the console just lights up and soon the door opens, making him smile in satisfaction as he opened it. As Kai steps across the threshold of the ship, a wave of awe washes over him, mingled with a sense of trepidation and wonder. The air is heavy with the scent of machine oil and ozone, carrying the unmistakable aroma of a vessel brimming with power and purpose.
Before him stretches a labyrinthine expanse of corridors and chambers, each pulsating with the hum of machinery and the thrum of power conduits. The walls are adorned with ancient iconography and sigils of the some figure, somehow casting flickering shadows that dance across the polished metal surfaces. He wondered how the hell is did that
As Kai ventures deeper into the heart of the ship, he is greeted by the sight of towering yellow clad warriors in resplendent armor, their faces hidden behind impassive helmets adorned with grim visages and baleful symbols. They emitted a sense of purpose and determination, their faces and aura resonating with the weight of duty and honor.
But for these warriors were in strange pods that made the air cold, making him shiver as he rubbed his body to warm him up. He walked around the pods, counting them as to see how many there were in the ship. And to his surprise he saw and counted around maybe 300 pods, though only 199 were in effect, the rest were deactivated or not working
"Hmm," he said as he walked to a console,"hmm lets see if your working shall we?"
He tapped what seemed to be the power button and waited, soon it came to life but fizzled and spazzed out to a black screen. He groaned as he knelt down and used one of his screwdrivers to pry the hatch off, making it fall and clatter on the hard floor. The noise made an echo in the ship, making Kai shiver a bit as he felt like he was on a ghost ship
"Should have brought salt," he said as he worked
He sighed as he looked in it and saw a cobweb of wires, plugs and other things, he wondered how the hell it even worked. He shook his head as he looked through and found some damaged wires, so he sliced them and reconnected it to the ones he cut, connecting the small bronze color material together. He hummed a little tune as he finished up and stood up
"Okay, if I did it right, it should work," he said,"hopefully I can get the lights working here, feels depressing in here."
He tapped the button again and soon he saw a working screen! He smiled as he tapped the screen and saw multiple boxes appear, he hummed as he reads them and was confused at the wording. It was strange and sounded like a Priest reading the Bible and making up words, which was something. He sighed as he clicked what he thought was the ships records
"Imperial Battle Barge Mater Lachrymarum, huh interesting name" he said and reads on,"the Mater is the Lamenters mighty vessel, a mobile Imperial Star Fortress known as a Chapter Barque, serves as the Lamenters Chapter's mobile fortress-monastery and gene-seed/relic repository."
'Lamenters? Gene-Seed? What hell kinda ship did I walk on,' he thought to himself
He kept reading on, seeing records of the ship and its logs, as he found somethings interesting and other slightly disturbing details of this ship. He kept going as he reads that the Mater had experienced a Drive Failure in the Warp, thus making it do an emergency landing out. He was surprised to see this ship landed here...100 years ago!
"100 years," he said, then thinks about it,"hmm makes sense, the ship is a part of the mountain, the earth must've grew around it or slight tectonic movements must've buried it. Either way, it says that the Lamenters were put in Cryo-sleep to preserve and heal the wounded."
He looks at the pods and frowned, from what he read in the logs of the Chapter, they went through hell. They were made to do a 100 year Penitent Crusade cause they were labeled cursed by the High Lords of Terra, and it went down hill from there, even suspected of treason and heresy. He didn't know what that meant, but he'll take his time to study
As he worked, he didn't seem to notice a pair of eyes on him, which stalked him as he worked on the terminal. He was going well until the terminal once again spazzed out, the lights flickered and a low hum appeared. He groans as he thinks the ships engines or core, what it uses, must be heavily damaged. He would try and repair it, but he didn't know where the hell to go
He worked on it as he suddenly sees a button to request a Servo-Skull to aid him, he didn't know what it was but it might help him. He tapped it and suddenly a pipe shook and rattled as steam out and soon a flying skull came out
Servo-Skull:
"Wicked," he said as he looked it over
"Do you require aid Master," it asked him, using a slight deep voice
"Umm first off, cut the master shit, I don't like that. Secondly, I do require help, I wish to know where I can find the ships engines, they are in desperate need of repairs."
"Understood, if the ships engines were to shut down, the Space Marines in the pods will lose their lives. Very well, follow me Young Lord, I will assist the new crew member."
It floated off, making Kai grab his belongings and rush after it. He was surprised to see the Servo-Skull didn't ask for any identification or rank, must be cause of the ships systems in disarray. But he was thankful so far, if it did and he didn't have any, it would have skewered his head with one of its steel arms there. So he didn't press his luck and followed it, as the pair of eyes followed suit
Soon the Servo-Skull used its arms to tap on a terminal on pair of huge doors, soon making them part ways and there he stood, amongst massive engines that could power a city for years. He was surprised, in awe and shocked to see such massive and complex looking engines. He smiled as he took his clothes off and went to work, but something got in his way
He ran smack dab into something made of metal, and it was HUGE! It looked like one of the Space Marines in the pods, though this one had red armor with robotic arms on its shoulders and it pointed a huge pistol of sorts at him
"Who are you," it asked him,"Heretic?!"
"Nonono, I ain't," Kai said in fear,"I promise!"
"Then how did you get in here!? You must've breached our hull!"
"No the door, I found your ships door and used the terminal to open it! I swear I'm not here to cause harm, I just want to repair the ship!"
The bulky figure looked at him, seeing the fear on his face, he can hear his heartbeat, though fast cause of fear. But he can sense the boy was telling the truth, but he wasn't going to trust him fully yet. He sighed as he lowered the weapon and walked off to the terminal, tapping on it as the Servo-Skull floated up to him, as Kai stood behind him as he observed
"Master of the Forge Galen Forgeborn, remaining member of the Tech-Mairnes on the Mater Lachrymarum," the Servo-Skull said informed Kai,"He overlooks the Tech-Marines in the maintenance of weapons, armors and vehicles. Though due to absent number of Tech-Marines, he has become the lone member of the Forge on the ship."
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that sir," Kai said as he took his jacket off
"It is fine, they did their duty for the Imperium and the Man-Emperor," Galen said as he tapped on the terminal,"it is a burden for one soldier, but I will carry the burden and make sure my brothers are well."
"Wow, thats...really admirable of you sir."
Kai never meet someone like him, they were usually only about themselves or protecting their own lives rather than risk it. Union was like that, he saw first hand how selfish they, he growled as his hatred for them was equal to a sun burning the surface of the planet. He wished Legion had accepted his letter, he would love to there right about now.
"Boy, what is your name," Galen asked him
"Kai Yamado sir," Kai said
Though Galen can tell Kai said the last name with major distaste and venom. Galen would ask later about it, but right now he needed to focus on working on the engines, cause if he didn't his brothers would die a dishonorable and pathetic death. So he grabbed a toolbox and handed it to Kai, who had a bandanna around his forehead
"Use these," he said as he tapped,"the Servo-Skull will help direct you to the problems in need of repairs."
"Understood," he said as he followed it
The Servor-Skull guided him around the engine room, or by its proper name the Enginarium, pointing at repairs he needed to do. He mainly had to repair wires, reconnect conduits and holes in the panels, he did this for 3 hours straight with little to no rest or food. Galen was both surprised, and admittedly, a little concern for the boy as he didn't stop to even drink
He was use to some mortals taking a minute to catch their breathes and get a drink when the Servitors were moving in. So to see such a young boy at his age doing this for 3 hours straight was quite the surprise. He smiled a bit as he did the check up and surprised to see such a driven child before, and it made him wonder if the boy can do more
It was a nice thought in his head, but he dashed it aside as he went back to working on the systems. Soon, after another 3 straight hours of work, the engines were in better condition they were in a century. Kai was seen panting heavy, sweat drenched his shirt, hair wet and his throat cracked from no drinking. Some might say he overworked himself
But he loved it, and no one else was gonna tell him differently. He panted as the Servo-Skull brought him a cup of water, which he grabbed and took a sip, then gaged a bit but got use to it, it was tasteless, but it made his throat better. He looked up as he saw Galen working on the terminal, making Kai intrigued
"What are you doing," he asked as he sipped more of the water
"Reawakening my brothers from Cryo-sleep," he said,"I think it's time they come out."
"Okay then, how long will it take?"
"The defrosting and reawakening progress will take time, so in that time, I would like you to inform of this planet we are on."
"Okay then, I'll try my best."
So for a while, Kai informed Galen of the planet Remnant, its inhabitants and the Powers used by the 'Heros'. Quirks, Chakra, Quirks, Scared Gears and so much more it took him an hour to explain them all. There were two schools meant to try them, Union and Legion, though the way Kai spoke of Union, they were a bunch of pompous and self-centered brats who bullied innocent people like him
He was Powerless, a term used for those who have no Power at all, it made up 20% of the population. And they were treated like trash, less than trash, second class citizens and punching bags for the assholes who hated them. Even Kais own parents abandoned cause of his Powerless nature, and that made Galen a little mad, a parent shouldn't abandoned their children like that
"I see, I apologize for that child," he said as he worked
"Its fine, I got over it years ago," he said as he sipped his drink
Galen nodded as suddenly the pods started opening and soon the other Space Marines started coming out. Kai stared in awe at the massive bulky men in the armor come out, their armor moving with grace and elegance, something he never thought he would see. Though he frowned at the state of their armor, they had tears, rips and missing parts
"What happened to them," he asked Galen
"Our duty," is all he said before a Marine walked up
He was bigger, maybe a few inches taller then the rest, then the rest, and in his hands was a red helmet in contrast to the others yellow. He looked at Galen and nodded, but he looked at Kai with a small glare, making Kai shrink a bit,
"I am Chapter Master Malakin Phoros of the Lamenters," he said with a deep but smooth voice,"and I wish to know who you are?"
"K-Kai sir," he said with a shakey voice
"I see, now I want to know what-."
"Chapter Master Malakin," Galen said, interrupting him,"Kai here has went with 20 years of no sleep. I think its best he take some rest before he explains anything, but I can inform of what he told me."
Malakin, surprise to see Galen stop him, look at the boy and can see he was sleep deprived and weak. He would continue on and question him, getting all necessary information of the planet and residents, but the boy looked ready to kill over. He nodded as Galen looked at the boy
"Follow the Servo-Skull to the sleeping chambers," he said
"Y-Yeah got it sir," he said as he yawned and followed it
"What the hell was that Galen," he asked the Master of the Forge when he was out of reach
"I did not mean disrespect or dishonor," Galen said,"but I believe it's best you learn from me first hand."
"Very well, do so right now."
Let us see what the fate of Remnat now that the Lamenters are now awake.
