Message From Your Judge: I had a blast reading through all of the stories for the Fantasy category. Well done to everyone who submitted. Having sat down at a computer and poured your heart out into text on the screen makes you all winners in my eyes <3 <3 <3

But, since I have to choose, there were a couple of standouts. Writers who have found that illusive ability to capture and hold the reader, page after page. . .

Judge's Review: When one of the main characters is a star come down into human form, you instantly know that this is going to be a unique and stand-out story. And, it doesn't disappoint. Filled with action from the first few pages, it has a wonderful, page-turning pace that keeps you hooked and wanting more. The only thing that let this story down from being higher up in the list was that the character motivations need a little more work to feel authentic. Other than that a solid beginning to a first draft quality story.

Coming in at Second Place we have!!: 

Queen on Fire by: Dark_Writes

Judge's Review: Starting in the modern world with a washed up celebrity, this story is a refreshing break from the standard fantasy novel. It doesn't take long however, before it quickly morphs into a loose Narnia-type retelling with an imaginative cast of creatures big and small. Very different. It's short, easy-to-read chapters, had me breezing through more than four times the amount required for this review. I was addicted! Clayton lifts his descriptions off the pages with clever word choices that will have you impressed, laughing and/or grossed out all at the same time. Again, the only thing that stopped me from putting this higher was characterisation, with Alice being a bit too cardboard-cutout for my tastes. Round her out with a whole lot more depth (and a bucket-load less heartless monster), and I would give this 10/10.

Traveler by: JinnNelson

Judge's Review: The Traveler is a beautiful story with stunning imagery. Read this and you'll be continually being treated to descriptions of events like that of a world 'melting' before your eyes, and a revolving cast of unique creatures and characters. The writing is smooth, well edited and flows well. We follow the story of a young girl living in a coffee shop that rotates from world to world. An idea that brought back many years of happy memories from Enid Blyton's Faraway Tree stories. Every chapter had something happening and I look forward to seeing what unfolds as the story progresses.
