Aliah's POV
So here I was, almost 9 months pregnant and my water could break at any moment.
But where was Harris, you may ask?
Exactly, at work.
Some important bussines stuff, he said. It's always something 'important'.
You know what, I should trick him into thinking the baby was coming. Testing if he would be ready when that day really comes.
After the incident, they officially declared Flora and Zain dead. Let's all hope Zain stays dead and maybe Flora comes back to visit me again.
No.
That will never happen. She's dead. For good this time.
Saïd was struggling but hit it off with our real estate agent almost immediately. We all know how Saïd is. He was taking it slow though, he wanted to focus on his religion first before getting into something serious.
Can't blame him for that, I would do the same.
That fake cop guy was charged for kidnapping, murder, attempt to murder, corruption and for selling drugs. One big ass list so he was going behind bars for a very long time.
I placed my hand on my belly and gently moved my hand around in circular motions. This little girl is going to be an introvert person, I could feel it. I never felt her kicking much, she was relaxed and quiet. Let's also hope she isn't going to be a cry baby.. We all know how much I appreciate a good night sleep.
As I was staring at my giant belly, I figured I could use a good laugh. Mainly because I was bored. I picked up the phone and searched for Harris' number. I was nervously waiting for him to pick up the phone as the phone started ringing in my ear.
"Shit I'm sure he's in a meeting." I whispered. What if he picks up, starts panicking in the room followed by me saying it was a prank? Yeah I don't think his investors or colleges would laugh about it.
As I wanted to put the phone down, Harris picked up. I heard him excuse himself from the room, closing the door behind him.
Well if he wasn't in the room anymore, I could easily just continue the prank.
"Hey babe are you okay? Something wrong?" Harris asked, filled with nervousness as his voice shook with every word he brought out.
"Aw no." I played. I was such an actor.
Harris and I have been good actually, the past eight months were amazing. Harris was learning more about Islam. It took time though. He at first did it for me, but he quickly realized that he was really interested in the religion.
Things like that needed time though. Rushing into something is never a good idea, we don't want him to fall in disbelief again two years from now.
"Wait what is it baby." He asked, his voice shaking more than before. I heard him pace around in the hallway, leaving everyone behind in the conference room.
"My water just broke." I was laughing so hard on the inside but somwhere deep down, I felt bad.
He was so sweet.
But also ...
Don't keep a woman who's nine months pregnant alone at home when she can go into labor at any moment.
"Oh God okay, I'm coming." He said as I heard him open the door again, running into the room.
"She's having the kid!" He yelled throughout the entire room.
Omg.
No he didn't.
Who knows how many people were in that room.
"Wait Harris!" I tried but he was too exited.
"I'm coming babe, hold on." he said, ignoring every word I spoke.
"Oh congratulations, we'll reschudial the meeting." I heard one person say. Harris didn't have the phone against his ear anymore. He probably put it down to grab all his belongings. I could hear him from a distance, anything but clear.
"Okay Aliah I'm here, I'm coming."
This was getting out of hand. He was being genuinely worried. It was time to tell him that I was just joking around.
"Harris" I said, afraid for his reaction.
"Yes I'm on my way"
"C'mon c'mon" I heard him say annoyed when he was waiting for something that wasn't coming quickly enough. Probably the elevator.
"Harris." I yelled through the phone.
"Yes, I'm here what is it?" He asked.
"I'm not going into labor... I was just joking" I whispered through the phone.
"What?" He said. "Aliah I was freaking out!" He sounded somehow relieved.
"Thank God you weren't." He added.
"Why?" I asked.
"Because the elevator just broke."
"Wait so if I was really going into labor-"
"-Then you would've been fucked" He said finishing my sentence. "No we still got stairs you know." he quickly added.
"Shit." He sweared. "Aliah I can't go back in there? What do I say?"
"That it was a prank." I chuckled.
"Wow yeah sure and we will all laugh in sync. Very funny."
"Yeah why not it's funny." I smirked.
"No it's embarrassing."
"Good luck babe. I love you."
Good sport, another guy would've been hella annoyed.
"I'll get you back for that." He responded before I ended the call.
...
He came home a few hours later.
"If you weren't pregnant, I would've tackled you so hard." Harris said when he got in. His eyebrows furrowed looking at me with his 'why did you do it' look.
"So what did you say to them when you walked back in?" I asked, a massive grin visible on my face.
"I don't wanna talk about it." He said, walking passed me.
"C'mon, I and everyone else want to know."
He started laughing. "It was actually more embarrassing for you than it was for me." he smirked.
"Harris what did you say?" I asked, this time seriousness written all over my face. I also worked at that company, I would never be able to show my face there again if he said-...
"I simply just said that it was false alarm. That you peed your pants instead." He added sounding like it was nothing.
My mouth dropped open out of embarrassment and awe. How could he say that?
"Ha-ha Harris c'mon seriously." I said laughing it away.
"No I'm serious, that's exactly what I told them."
"Say wallah." I said raising my eyebrows.
"Wallah I said you peed your pants. You thought you were funny? Well I think I changed that in just one sentence." He winked.
"Omg Harris you-" As I was about to make my way towards him to give him the biggest punch, I felt something slid down between my legs. It was warm and watery.
"Shoot." I said as soon as I realized what happened.
"What?" Harris asked, taking a bite of his apple.
"I think I just peed my pants!" I added.
"Wait does that mean your water broke?" He asked, still eating his apple like nothing was worng
"Yes you smart-ass!" I started shouting.
"Say wallah." He joked.
"Harris this isn't the time for jokes, get your butt over here"
"Nope say Wallah first."
"I will-"
"Wallah!" Harris said cutting me off.
"I will kill you 'cause wallah the baby is coming!" I shouted.
He spit out what he had in his mouth and dropped the apple on the ground.
"Omg okay okay" He said holding my belly like he was keeping the baby from coming out just yet.
"Get the freaking keys you weirdo!"
"Right okay."
He ran over to the counter and grabbed the keys, he then quickly ran towards me again and back to the door, opening it for me.
"C'mon the car is out front." He said helping me to the car and closing the door behind me.
...
"Congratulations!" The doctor said as he handed over our baby.
The past few hours were the longest hours of my life. Never have I experienced this much pain.
"Do you have a name already?" She asked.
"Yeah." I responded looking at Harris.
"Maya." He said. "Maya Cooper."
It has this American but also Arab swing to it. I loved it, I loved her.
..
*17 years later*
"Thanks mom for moving away now I'm a senior, thanks." Maya yelled.
I sighed.
I had my hands full with her. She was a quiet girl, don't get me wrong. Pretty timid and introvert but she still wasn't afraid to open her pretty little mouth.
"Honey I know we should've waited, we just wanted to move closer to uncle Saïd and you know about your father's business." I replied, trying to approach her.
"They could've easily moved to New York and dad should think about me more." She said, sadness heard in her voice.
I felt so bad.
"You'll make new friends." I tried again.
"Yeah friends that look at me like I'm some outta space kind of person. Yeah amazing can't wait!" She replied sarcastically and took off to God knows where.
Before I could even ask her where she was going, she had already closed the door behind her.
Harris' company was expending to Chicago, that's why we had to move away in the first place. It was just a coincidence that Saïd lived there.
I looked up and sighed.
"Allah help me." I whispered.
