CH 38: The Arab waiter
~~~~
Aliah's POV
"You ready to go?" Harris asked when he got out of his office and locked the door.
It wasn't that late so Harris probably was taking my advice on doing things more relaxed.
"You listened huh?" I responded with a a truly suprised look in my eyes.
"Of course, I always do."
I chuckled, "No you don't."
"Yes I do."
"Nopppe." I responded while grabbing my stuff.
I turned the computer off and got up from my chair.
"Very mature young lady."
"I know" I responded followed by a huge smile on my face, just to irritate him just a little bit more.
"C'mon I'm hungry." I added.
"I've been waiting for 5 minutes already." He said looking at his imaginary watch.
"Never annoy a girl that's hungry mister Cooper."
"Right, hungry and childish what more?"
"In bad company." I smirked.
"Remember when you practically called me a 4 year old?"
I nodded, "Good times." I smiled when I remembered the first day at work.
We both laughed and talked about the first day I started working here, how shit Harris' life was without me.
"Admit it, your life is pretty exciting thanks to me." We were walking to his favourite place to eat while we were still talking about ourselves and our lifes. I was more bragging about myself than talking about us.
"Okay don't get so full of yourself." He responded and rolled his eyes. Before I could even respond, someone bumped into my shoulder, sending a shooting pain down my arm. It obviously was a male, a female could never bump into me with that much strength.
"Aw what the hell?" I shouted annoyed, rubbing my shoulder.
And you might think that it wasn't on purpose, but it definitely was.
Harris turned around and faced the person that bumped into me,
"Dude you can at least apologise?" Harris shouted.
The guy was pretty tall, covered in tattoos, not that musculairly build so Harris could easily take him out. Not that I would let him.
He started laughing when he looked at me, turned to Harris and said "You can do better bro." He left as fast as he could after that. He didn't even give me or Harris the chance to respond.
That my friends is called a racist piece of shit. I'm a strong individual, so nobody like that bastard could bring me down. But incidents like this kept circling around inside my head. That sometimes took days, weeks or even years, depending on how intense they were to process. The evening started so fun and relaxed and that's ruined by one racist low-lifer.
"Let's just go" I said to Harris, his eyes aflame and his hands formed into fists, ready to shut this guy up.
I grabbed his hand and calmed him down.
"It's not worth it." I smiled.
He made eye contact with me and his facial expression relaxed immediately. His hands also relaxed and we started walking again. Quieter than before, but that was fine. It wasn't an awkward silence.
To be honest, I was quite scared to walk anywhere with Harris. Scared for things like this. People seeing a normal human being with a fully covered girl. Most people knew Harris or were afraid of him, that's why they didn't say or do anything. Except for the tattooed tall ass man. The look in people's eyes spoke a thousand words, hateful disgusted looks. The only time I believed that Harris deserved better. He doesn't need to deal with all of this, however he chose to.
"That guy was wrong you know." He said breaking the silence.
"What?"
"He was wrong, you are the one that deserves better." he said without making any eye contact. He released his hand from mine and swung his arm around me pulling me closer to him, making more people look at us. It was like he could read my mind.
"Don't." I warned, taking his arm off me.
"What?" He questioned not sure why I did that.
I hate being watched; I tried my best to not give a shit, but that wasn't working.
"People are looking." I replied.
"So? Let them look" He said and swung his arm around me again.
"I'm proud to call you mine", he added.
I smiled at his cuteness and couldn't push him away again. I still have a heart you know. He's right, fuck them. Let them watch and die out of jealousy.
..
We arrived at the restaurant and I immediately noticed that it wasn't a halal spot. Crap, what do I do now?
I always had that with my Kafir friends. I love to eat and I obviously love meat. So whenever we went to a non-halal spot, I had to put on my best poker face and not show them that I was secretly wishing I was eating chicken instead of rabbit food. And I was of course too scared to say anything about it. The struggle with having non-Muslim friends is real.
I decided to not say anything and to let him enjoy his meal. They will probably have something for vegetarians. He deserves some simplicity in his life, especially for all the things he has done for me.
..
The waiter asked us what we would like to drink and came back with alcohol for Harris and water for me.
The waiter came over with a bottle of wine, pouring some into Harris' glass. That was quite confronting to be honest, I guess that's what I get for choosing to be with a non-Muslim guy.
"Are you ready to order?" The waiter asked.
"Yes, steak please." Harris responded who had asked him what he would like.
Oh gosh how much I wanted steak right now. I started drooling at the thought of a big barbecued piece of steak. (A/N sorry for those that are fasting lol)
"You babe?" Harris asked pulling me out of my thoughts.
"Euhm", I tried to make it look like I couldn't pick, but in reality, there was almost nothing I could pick.
When I looked at the waiter, I noticed that he probably was also Arab. A bit dark skinned and he had an accent.
"Ghiir lhalal li kayn houwa salmon (The only halal dish is the salmon)" He helped in Arabic. His Arabic was pretty good to be honest. If only my Arabic was that fluent.
"Shokran, the Salmon and pesto-dressed vegetables please." I eventually said.
"Coming right over." He smiled and walked away.
I think he spoke in Arabic because he knew I was scared to tell Harris that there was nothing halal on this menu.
"What was that?" Harris asked.
I cleared my throat and thought of what I could possibly say.
"Nothing, he just told me what he thought was delicious."
"Right, so why did he do that in another language?" He asked, his eyebrows furrowed indicating he knew I was lying.
Help?
Should I lie or just be honest? Pff I don't-
"Was he flirting with you?" He asked still with the same expression on his face.
I almost choked on my own saliva.
"Aliah was he flirting with you?" He repeated the question after I didn't respond immediately, this time sounding irritated.
"What?! No of course not why do you always think of the worst?"
"What would you think if a girl started talking to me in a different language so you wouldn't understand?" He was getting more annoyed every minute that passed.
"Here you go." The waiter said when he brought us the food.
"Can I ask you something?" Harris said. Here we go.
"Harris?" I whispered giving him the 'what are you doing look'. Wallahi, if he's going to embarrass me in front of the whole restaurant.
"What did you say to my girl earlier?" He said with a slight annoyance and jealousy in his voice.
Ya Allah.
I slid down further in my seat out of embarrassment as the waiter looked over my way with a smile. I bit my lower lip, my cheeks burning while I tried to regulate my breathing. Please just kill me.
