We honestly did not have anytime to stand there and enjoy the idyllic view but we couldn't help it. It was just so mesmerising. The sunset made the huge castle that stood in the centre of the kingdom look like it was made of gold. The river that surrounded the kingdom reflected the sun rays and the whole place was glittering with blinding light.
'Well lets move on or we'll be going now where' Emily said trying to see how we could get down hill. She pointed at rocky terrain that was sculpted by some clumsy hands that led to the forest down below.
We carefully made way through the path. We certainly did not want to die rolling over the hill. There was nothing to hold on to ensure more safety. Emily was wobbling and walking carelessly in excitement to reach the unknown Kingdom. We reached down not very long after.
My legs were still shaking so I held onto Em's shoulder. 'The forest did not seem very dense from above' Em said betraying a hint of fright. True. The forest was very thick and covered with trees and extremely overgrown grasses. 'Emily aren't we supposed to go home? Lets just turn back to where we came from and start back home' I said.
'Well I don't think I want to go back to the dead cave again. We could get lost the second time maybe. Well who knows but the people who lives in that Kingdom could help us back' she said reassuringly. I turned my fingers slightly behind me to hide my worry.
We started to walk down the forest. No kidding it was dark and really dense. Occasionally we heard odd noices coming from somewhere...well everywhere. I did not enjoy this one bit. But I really do admire how brave Emily could be if she really wanted to. I tripped many times on stray branches and rocks and I'm really sure I broke my toe nail. I was feeling really tired and famished. 'I really have to sit down' I said settling on a big rock on the ground.
'Yeah me too' said Emily 'But we can't stop now... C'mon lets walk a bit more'. 'No...I can't take another step unless I rest a bit' I said stretching my legs and I heard cracks from my joints. 'We are in the middle of an unknown creepy ass hell forest, how can you rest while we're here?' she said angrily. I was about to snap back when I heard something...like running hooves...
'Someone's coming' I said alarmed. 'Must be the citizens of the kingdom' said Emily hopefully and started to walk towards the noice. But we could hear more hoof noices. We were getting closer to the noices. But then I tugged at Emily's sleeve and said 'We should first look who's there'. Emily nodded. We walked more silently and heard a very rich but thunderous voice talk which certainly did not sound human.
' Saib lat ukmell avhaav¿' ' Yeuk....iav doeuk ukmell familiar', we heard the voices say. Emily slowly moved the leaves that blocked us from them and stared. I couldn't see what she was looking at but whatever it was...it creeped her like hell. Emily slowly pulled me way from there slowly. 'What are those' I whispered as slowly as possible. 'Shush... they're orcs' said Emily so quietly. ' Ah... Ul ukmell iuk nauk-alpak clouke afar' thundered one of the voice. 'Oh dear.... hurry...' said Emily 'I think they found us'. We were making quite a fuss and noice while walking so it wasn't a surprise when we heard the hoof sounds storming at us. 'RUN!!!' yelled Emily at the top of her voice.
We ran like crazy fast. We got seperated. I never knew how fast I could run until this moment. I turned back to see three large almost humanoid figure with large yellow fangs rushing at me sitting on large boars...? From somewhere far I heard Emily yell 'I'M NOT GOING TO DIE LIKE THIS!!'. I thought to myself "Neither am I" and started to run faster. But I started to feel dizzy and those things haven't left behind me. I ran as fast I could but I could hear them gaining on me. ' Faukvas!! Kulknej ayh gainaumn par avhe ukhe shara' one yelled. But I guess I got too slow because one of them managed to pierce my leg slightly with a spear. I doubled over hitting my head hard over something and landed cleanly on my back. I was facing towards the sky when the three beasts looked at me and one of them scrutinized me and said finally ' Lavor shara'. One of them held his axe high to chop my head. I covered my face with my hands and screamed...
But suddenly I heard a deep and musical voice saying something and when I looked up I saw an arrow piercing the neck of a beast. It's blood splattered on my face. The others rushed towards the whoever killed their mate. I turned over painfully to see who it was. I blinked my eyes which were dripping blood from my eyelashes, I closed my eyes and opened them, whatever I was seeing wasn't true. Or so I thought.
A tall man with long white hair holding a sword and with a bow hanging on his shoulders was sitting on a magnificent white horse. He was radiating such powerful energy I just laid there gaping at him in awe.
He got off the horse with such practised ease. And balanced his sword his hands. The beasts ran towards him and I felt the earth shaking. The man swinged his sword with one swift smooth motion at one of the beasts head and decapitated it. The other beast roared and try to hit him with a huge boulder like branch. But the man had such great reflexes of a cat, he ducked and hit the beast with tip of the sword on its chin and with a swift movement it pierced it's neck. The blood was gushing out like a fountain.
Suddenly I saw another one of the beasts sneaking from behind the man. 'LOOK OUT!' I yelled. But I don't think he needed it because he had already turned and made a huge gash on the beast's face.
Emily came from behind and hugged me tight and I saw five more of the men, tall but three of them were dark haired but they still had that proud graceful stance. We were staring at them while they were inspecting the headless beast that was near me.
'Who are these men?' I whispered to Emily's ears. She whispered back 'Elves'.
One of the dark haired elf stepped on the stomach of the headless orc and we saw blood gushing out of it chopped head.
'Eeek...' shrieked Emily seeing this. And this was when all of the elves looked at us...no stared is much appropriate thing to say. This was when I could properly see the face of the elves.
Pale complexion, strong jawline, long ears and small wise eyes, everyone had dark eyes except the one who had saved me, he had white eyes that were penetrating through mine. I felt my face warming up. Oh no I'm blushing. I looked at Emily and saw her gaping and them like an idiot. I stepped up and said 'Thank you. We would have been dead if you weren't here to save us'.
They all turned to me. Oh not again...my face was burning and I'm sure my face is beet red now.
' Hain are neth girls uin firen ambar' a dark haired one said looking at the white eyed elf. ' Could hain n- spies nin còon¿' asked the elf who was standing near the white eyed one. All the while that white eyed elf was staring at me. 'No...' he said with ease fluency 'If they were spies they would have atleast know how to defend themselves from the orcs'.
Ah...excuse me? So they think we're spies? I was about to say something when Emily said 'No sir we're not spies. We're just lost and would do anything to go back to our home'. It was clear all the elves knew what we were talking about.
The white eyed elf walked few feets away and moved his long fingers in a graceful motion.
He turned towards me and Em and said 'You will follow us. It is not safe for you to be stranded in the middle of dark forest of Hershire'.
'Good idea. We'll follow you' said Em enthusiastically. He did not mind that.
The others brought their horses and helped me and Em mount onto one. The horses were quite peculiar. They were higher than normal horses. Their manes were shimmering like silver and smooth as silk.
No one talked for a long while except for the deep breathing of the horses and the crunches of the twigs.
'Where are you taking us?' I asked politely to the elf that was leading the horse I was sitting on. 'To our Kingdom young nissë' he said and said further no more.
We travelled for quite a few hours. Then the leading elf came to a halt in front of a huge gate. He chanted something. Something very musical. Something that was calming my nerves to the core. The ancient looking gate had opened but it made no noice whatsoever.
Emily's and my mouth went wide open at the sight we behold. There was a long bridge leading to a massive place. The sun hadn't set yet. The palace was glistening and a peculiar light coming from the sky was touching at the top most pinnacle. The whole place was radiating beauty and magnificence. Deep inside I never want to leave this place. We walked to the streets of the kingdom. You could never call it streets. It's floor was not dirt or just mud but pure marble like substance. I was surprised at how trees were able to grow through it.
The people did not take second glances at me or Emily. I mean why would they? Look at them. The men looked tall, robust and handsome and the ladies were graceful and beautiful. We were brought to the castle gates. It was made of crystals. I'm surprised no one's ever tried to break in. Emily might have thought the same thing because she looked at me awed and confused.
The elves helped us down and caught us at our elbow and started to lead us to the castle. They didn't need to do that I would have entered either ways. The white eyed elf was leading all of us. We walked straight ahead.
And from there we saw a huge throne made of trees branches I think, sculpted to complex structures. And I saw a man of extreme majesty sitting on the throne with both his hands on the sides of the throne. He wore a long robe of white and gold. His looks demanded respect. It was youthful and ancient. He was ever-so glorious and looked almost alike to the white eyed elf in front of us.
When we reached closer to him, I was able to see his eyes were white just like the other elf. Suddenly all the elves bowed down to him. The elves who ever holding me and Em bowed too pulling us with them. That elf must be the king. There was an empty throne on the right side of him.
The elf stood up slowly. The rustle noice of the silky robes was tingling me. ' Who gar- sin hi nin réd¿' he asked to his look alike elf. The elf who had save me walked in front of him and kissed the hands of the king and said 'I believe these ladies are from the banished human realms. We found them in the Hershire forest'. Saying so he went and sat at the empty throne that was beside the king's throne. He...must be the prince I figured out.
The king came down the stairs that had made the throne far above us. He was moving his fingers in a graceful way which was quite mesmerising. The elves that held us let go of us and went back. Next second the elf king was in front of us.
He bowed to us. Emily looked at me and we curtsied in front of him quite awkwardly.
But he smiled at us warmly and said 'Well mannered...'
'What are you called?' he asked us.
'I'm Josephine and this is Emily' I said very politely. He smiled at me.
His eyes were wise and glowing with power. He moved my hair that was falling to my face and touched the bruise, I winced, and then he looked at my leg which had a gash. 'First we have to mend your bruises. We don't want you to die from bleeding' he said calmly twirling his fingers. I couldn't stop myself from asking 'What is this place?'
'This my darling...is the ancient Kingdom of Merobolis...'
