The dark cave

The old pathway carved into the rock was dark and slippery, but it clearly had been made by human hands, as it was human-sized and steps had been carved into the hard ground.

 It must have been either forgotten or abandoned, because many non-photosynthetic fungi were spreading all over the place, feeding of the humidity and the organic material down there. Even with her keen eyes she couldn't see in the total dark, so she kept walking close to the wall, with one hand touching it. The presence of some bioluminescent fungi helped her, dimly illuminating the area with a sickly greenish hue.

As she went further, she could feel like those fungi seemed to had grown in a ordinated way. It seemed as if someone put them in there to illuminate the path. It was impossible, wasn't it? Who would have done it? The old inhabitants of that building? She didn't remember anyone talking about a secret passage under the cathedral when she was a child.

Going down and down the steps, she found herself in front of the oldest and most worn out wooden door that (Y/N) had ever seen. When (Y/N) tried to touch it to open it, the wood crumpled under her skin touch. From the pile created on the ground, came out multiple arthropods, insects and some worms. It seemed that they were the new owners of this place.

Entering the space behind the door-frame, she found herself in an under-ground cave. Its vault was 10 meters tall and its walls were covered by rotting bookshelves with glass jars, flasks and vials with strange concoctions and objects inside of them. And dust. So much dust everywhere that made her cough, the sound reverberating on the rock walls, scaring her and making her stumble with a ragged carpet and falling down.

Standing and rubbing her sore behind, (Y/N) kicked the carpet like a child with a tantrum, swearing in a very unladylike way. When she kicked the carpet away, it only helped at moving more dust that made her eyes red and itchy.

When she could see again through the dust cloud, (Y/N) saw a strange carving under the damned carpet. Putting aside with her foot the disgusting piece of cloth, she gasped. I t was a circular intricate carving. It had something wrote on it, but she couldn't read the antique runes, only being able to decipher some of the worn out Latin words: pura malum, invocation, quae, tenebris, maledici sunt.

-"What is this? 'Pura malum' are the Latin words for 'pure evil', 'invocatio' means 'invoke' , 'quae' is 'contain', 'tenebris' is 'darkness' and 'maledicti sunt' is 'cursed'. Whoever did this wasn't trying to bring back an angel, that's for sure... And it didn't end well, since the carved circle has a crack. If someone tries to use it now, it only will fire back at them, the invoked being would be able to free itself form the confinement of this circle..."

Intrigued by what she had found, she moved to the book-shelves and went through the books' names. Most of them had names in Latin, but there were some in other languages: German, Russian, French, Portuguese, Sanskrit, Arabic, Spanish, Greek and a very old variant of English. By what she could grasp from her knowledge of the languages and from the symbols that appeared in them, they were all books of occultism, bestiaries, introductions to black magic and witchcraft, and some notes from herbalists.

All of them were banned by the Vatican.

-"Who could have the access to so many banned books?"

Stopping at one of the highest shelves,(Y/N) looked at the only book that wasn't about dark themes. Its name was: "La púa del dragón".

-"The dragon's spike?"- Searching for the stone spike that was in her pocket, and for that book, she noticed that the lock that closed the book had the same shape of that spike of the dragon sculpture that allowed her to enter the cave. Putting the spike on the lock, it opened.

-"This is not a book, this is a journal... Lord Dracule's journal... This is mihawk's father's journal??!!"

'Is this a secret room of his? But what had been he doing here?'

Being careful with the aged pages, (Y/N) started reading it and discovering the secret that led her and her loved ones to be in their current state.

~~~~ Meanwhile~~~~
The burial for the two brothers was solemn and tragic. All the monks wore blank faces and heavy hearts. The priest only came out of his chambers to assist the mass. Once it was over he vanished inside his room to mourn.
Both brothers were the most energetic and happy monks. All of them are the priest's only family. They are stars in his sight.
Little by little his world was becoming darker because of ... her.
