Helplessness

PREVIOUS CHAPTER:

-"They had been cursed... But by who? Or better, by what?"- (Y/N) asked herself, staring at the yellowish pages of the journal- "But if Master's curse come from here, all the sickness after he came back from war and this afterlife... is all linked! It is because of the curse!... But the letter... Why did they not stop Mihawk from going to war?! Why didn't they obey to the late Lord Dracule's last wish?!"- (Y/N) shouted aggravated.

-"Why? Because it never was found"

Hearing a deep and cold voice, (Y/N) turned hastily around. Only to find the red haired holding up a letter with a mocking face.

-"Missed me?"- mocked the red haired demon with a fanged and evil smile.

-"How dare you!! You came to me the day after the hunter took his heart with the excuse of knowing how to bring him back!! Scoundrel! You're the main reason why he's like that! You lied to me!! You made me trade my soul for your help... Was something that has ever happened to us not planned by you?!- (Y/N)'s dead blood was boiling, if her froze heart could beat again, it would be racing with anger and adrenaline.

-"Well, I did not plan for Mihawk finding an abandoned baby in the woods. And I didn't plan for Akagami to end your Master's second life. I just showed him the way to this village"- he explained with a bored look, twirling the old letter between his fingers.

-"Why did you do all of this? WHY?!"- (Y/N) cried, translucent droplets going down her sickly pale skin. Being so agitated, she failed to notice her surroundings and what the demon was doing. Alone in the dark underground cave, he was making her back into a corner of the room. Carefully, making sure that she didn't find any obstacle to bump into and wake from her shock filled state, he drove her to the farthest corner between two bookshelves.

-"Why?"- he roared with laughter- "Why?! Because I CAN, because I WANT. Let me tell you a secret: when Mihawk's daddy was so desperate for her love, he didn't invocate me. He invocated a healing spirit. A furry little spirit able to cure all sickness. But I happened to get that info, and before the spirit showed himself to the human, I disposed of him. Bye bye, little Chopper! And I was the one to appear before the Dracule. All of this just because I was so fucking bored in that time!

-"You killed a sacred spirit?! Just because you were bored?!"- she stared wide eyed at him.

-"Yes! Because I wanted! Because I could do it! Because I have the power to do so!"- he smiled, slamming his hands on the wall when her back collided with it, making her jump and press back into it.-" I had the power, I have the power. The same power that I have over you and your little silver-eyed crush."- he hunched himself over her, huge body caging her. Slamming his fist on the solid rock next to her head, making it crack and some bookshelves to fall down, Kid's face approached hers until an inch, he snarled.- "And I won't tolerate you ruinning my fun!! Do you hear me, little bitch?!".

With the same hand that was still on a fist on the wall, he roughly grabbed her hair and slammed her lips on hers, forcefully kissing her. The hand on her hair changed to a chocking grip on (Y/N)'s neck before the demon released her.

-"I expect you to remember to whom your soul belongs to, and that if you don't exterminate the priest, I will do it. And believe me. It won't be the most merciful death".

With that the hand cutting her air pipes was gone as well as the hellish monster. Allowing herself to fall on her knees, (Y/N) felt a wave of helplessness and guilt wash over her. Feeling sorrow and shelf-loathing for all the people she had and was going to harm because of this evil being, she cried the hours away, alone in that forgotten and cursed room.

Law's P.O.V.:

Before. I was by my little sister. We were in home. She has a small cold, nothing our father can't cure. Outside was a festival. In the afternoon we could hear the music and the happy shouts of people enjoying it.

Now. Now I am by my sister. We are in home. She has a small cold, nothing our father can't cure. We can hear the shouts of people. They are not shouts from the festival anymore. They are screams of dying people. There is a festival no more. There is a massacre.

-"Brother-sama, my body hurts"- Lami cries, laying on her bed. I take her little hand into one of my little ones.

-"Hang in there a little more"- I say with a small encouraging smile- "Our father is the greatest doctor in the country. He'll heal you."

She looks at me.

-"Why is so noisy outside??"

-"There's a festival. Flevance is always prosperous. Get well soon and let's go to a festival together again."- I lie to her.

I make her smile.

Outside. Knights are fighting the creatures, but they are losing fast, very fast. They aren't an opponent to their unhuman strength. I hear the creatures enter our home and I try to save my sister. I take her and hide in a closet.

-"Lami, stay in here for a few minutes".-I say to her.

The creatures are raiding our home. I run into my father's medical room. I find the corpses of my mother and father. Creatures are ripping them apart, drinking their blood.

I feel fear. I cry. I try and run toward them. I shout at their corpses. The creatures try to catch me. I hide. I hide. I hide....

The streets look happy no more. Blood runs down the pavement. Flevance burns. Made of beautiful colored and carved wood, our city burns alongside its population.

The stench. I can't stand the odor of burning flesh. I run. I trip. There're corpses lying around. Creatures feeding on them. I hide. Under the bridge. Darkness. The light of the moon can't reach the city through the smoke. I cry.

He. He's the one that command the creatures. Reds hair. Blood red hair with crimson eyes. Horns. He spots me. He smiles. Crazy smile. He flies towards me. I run.

I run.

I run.

I run.

Our home. I pass by my home. It's on flames...

I CRY

I SHOUT

LAMI!!!!!!!!!!

I woke up and I cried. The familiar dream bringing me back a feeling of regret and helplessness. My past will haunt me forever. No matter how hard Bepo-ya tries to convince me that it was not my fault, I was the one that put my little sister in the closet. I was the one that let her burn alive. I was the only survivor of that massacre. How that not puts the blame on me? No one can understand my pain.

I fell back into the red canopy bed from my sitting position.

The only good thing is that today Penguin and Sachi are going to be allowed out of bed.

Rayleigh's P.O.V.:

-"Oooh... It's nice to see you up and going!"- I smiled as I approached the pair of monks, that stood in the empty corridor, with my arms open.-"How are you feeling, kids?"

-"Ah, Rayleigh-san! We're better, we now can walk without pain."- Penguin greeted.

"Really? That's why you're out of the infirmary? That's really good to hear, I'm happy!"- I laughed.

-"Thanks! It's a change from seeing all the sour faces when all of you carried us the meals! Hahaha. But still want to go out. I'm up but I can't wait to go outside these walls"- Sachi protested.

-"You know Trafalgar-sama won't approve that"- the other monk sighed.

-"Uuuuuuuurgh... what's the worst that could happen to us? I WANT TO GO OUT!"

-"Shut up! The priest will hear you"- Both of the monks were now in a playful fight to shut the other up.

'This is my opportunity' I thought.

-"Well. I'm going to the next village to get something"- I put my hand to my chin, smiling- "There's a path that doesn't go really deep into the forest for about 2 km... I suppose that if someone would want to follow me on horseback for a short period of time, and then come back, they won't face many troubles...Oh, well... I better go..."

I saw the two troublemakers smile one at each other. How easy.

Franky's P.O.V.:

It was a lazy foggy morning when it happened. I woke just before the sun came out, and headed towards the well that was in a corner of the town's square. Hauling up the metal bucket, I washed my face, blinking the sleep away. At that hour the town and its remaining habitants were asleep.

I sighed. The people. Their last town burned, turned to ash. Now this one too. They truly are followed by disgrace. At least not everything got calcined like we thought. Some buildings were saved.

But the works to restore the damage are slow and very much painful for everyone. Seeing corpses burned and smashed under wood planks and stones was not a sight that all could handle. I some cases, there were all of the members of a family that died. Those were the easiest works. The hardest? A family where the parents died and the children survived. My last work was one of these. A little girl named Rebecca, buried under her house, but still alive. Her father was another thing. He was dead, caging with his cold body the little child's, protecting her from harm...

Damn, it makes me cry!!

When I was remembering the pink-haired girl, a sound of hooves smashing against stone alerted me. I saw a horse running towards the square's big cross. It was dragging something. No. Not something. It was a person!!

-"This is not SUPER! Oi! Are you OK?"- I shouted grabbing the horse's reins. When it calmed down I took a look at the person.

-"God assist us..."- It could NOT be.

Penguin. He was... He has one foot twisted in the stirrup of the horse's saddle. The horse had been dragging his body while running. His body had lacerations, burns and bumps. His leg was broken and his head was backwards.

If he didn't die from the fall and the race, he surely did from the broken neck.

Maybe this town's misery is following us now.

As I reached to free his trapped leg, I noticed a box attached to the horses back, and a letter on top of it.

I opened the box.

I dropped it.

Sachi's head rolled out of it.
