➽Chapter Twenty Four
His hands were shaking, red after a long night from gripping the end of the slim pen that now fell between his slim fingers. Matted hair plastered upon his forehead, starry eyes gazing upon the long handwritten letter he had written.
Every detail of what had happened, every person, every event, every word uttered to him was all documented on the piece of paper, his uniquely difficult and intertwining signature signed at the bottom of the document.
The day's sunlight was barely spreading upon the world, little streaks of the sun still spilling on the cobblestone grounds of the kingdom. His window, set up high to make it impossible to see outside even glittered with what seemed to look like diamond embellishments, the sun spraying through the tiny cracks.
Sighing, Castrin ran his fingers through his dark hair, getting up from his chair and rolling the letter in his hand in a tight scroll. His eyes went over to the drawer at the bottom of the table, pulling it open and revealing a red ribbon scattered amongst other stuff.
Feeling rather formal, he took it out of its dark place and wrapped the skinny decoration around the slim body of the document, tying the ends into a tight bow before letting the paper fall from his grasp.
It hit the table with an inaudible thud, waiting to disappear.
Slowly, the Dark Magic Summoner closed his fingers around the paper, gripping it tightly as he allowed his eyes to close shut, his mind wandering to the one person he needed this letter to reach.
The one person that could untangle him from this mess he had been pulled into.
"To Draco" he simply uttered to the letter, watching with careful eyes as the magic within him began swirling around his fingers, creating a dark cloud littered with bright, pulsing stars.
It was beautiful, a monster, an energy slowly engulfing the letter within its depths until the dark cloud had surrounded the fragile piece of paper, his signature no longer visible.
Then like the wind, the stars around his magic imploded and the letter disappeared within his reach, engulfing into nothing but thin air as it made a journey through magical bonds and light.
Feeling his chest rise and fall again, Castrin pushed his chair back in, pulling the sleeves of his black robe over his long arms, concealing the bright red veins that burned through his skin.
His eyes traveled around his little home, books forming to create a mountain of knowledge, all of which he knew word for word. It was his safe place, drowning himself in all of the words the books had to provide, learning facts and events he had witnessed with his eyes.
He knew he wasn't learning much but what else was there to know when one has seen what has already been told?
Pulling the front of his robe over his naked chest, feeling a slight chill waft through his home, the Dark Magic Summoner was more than ready to bury himself back into bed with a bottle of wine and forget his day.
In all honesty, that is what he has been praying to do all week. Between researching Alesandria's still unexplainable condition to preparing himself for the worst, his eyes haven't had the time to rest.
He would be grateful for a knockout right now.
Cautiously, he stepped over hardcover books, making sure to not step on the bent pages of some. He grazed past a pile of books discussing the war of CresthraFalls to a scroll of documents discussing why Instro Sorceress Clan fell.
At his last step, his foot stepped on the discarded letter of Yagein Washli, his fingers reaching down to retrieve the letter. He let his eyes trace over her words again, letting them really sink into his skin. They didn't hurt as much as the first time but rather sent another surge of panic, his muscles tensing up as he read the very last sentence.
She is still alive.
Castrin's mind still couldn't comprehend that that wretched little baby girl that was supposed to die before she was even born was somehow still breathing the same air, wandering around the land, in the same world as he was.
He could still remember her so clearly. How are star-filled angry eyes opened up to the world as soon as she was born. How her hair tumbled over her shoulders and her powers lit underneath her veins. He could see the baby in his eyes, knowing she would grow up to be a heartless bitch.
Yes, Yagein wasn't his friend. He hated her. In fact, he loathed her. Yet helping her supposedly destroy that bloody heir was one of the easiest decisions he's ever made in his life.
She was a danger to all. So why did he feel so guilty?
So how could she still be alive? How could her body have survived that fire? How could her skin not crumble at the many wounds that decorated it?
"Sometimes I wish death was an option" he whispered to himself, discarding the SilverClaw Witch's letter to the floor, letting his footstep past it.
"Okay Eros, I need you to keep your coat closed and your mouth quiet." The little boy squirmed around in his place, sleepy brown eyes fluttering close once again as he let the young woman button his coat up.
A yawn escaped his small lips, his mouth barely pulling into a smile when he raised his hand up and wiped the sleep out of his eyes once again. "But I'm sleepy and hungry" he complained, lifting his neck up as she buttoned the last one.
Golden eyes glittered back at him, a hint of sadness and sorrow crossed over her eyes. Strands of dark hair slipped over her longing orbs, long fingers rustling into his growing hair. "I know but you'll soon be safe" she assured, letting her fingers brush past his flushed cheeks.
"Hmm okay" the boy simply replied back, letting his gaze hold the Mind Siphon's gaze as her fingers lingered down to the gray fingerless gloves that covered his hands, straightening them so his wrist wasn't exposed.
Footsteps echoed on the crumbling staircase as Alesandria came down the last step, her long gray dress reaching towards her ankles. The black boots she wore covered her ankles, her black long coat buttoned to her neck.
Over her shoulder, a black bag hung over her shoulder, her other hand carrying a bag as well. Besides her with her fingers that were free, she intertwined them with her mother's who was walking one by one.
Parcia's skin was still red from the attack, her eyes still cloudy for her to see properly and her feet forever never walking in a straight line. In her hand, her yellowed fingers gripped around a silver cane, using that as a guide to carry her wherever she went in case her feet failed her.
Her hair was pulled back in an elegant way, half up half down so that chunks of her brown hair could hide the peeling skin that fell from her bloody ear and the other half could hide the bald spots that were beginning to appear on her head.
"Are we all ready to go?" the poor woman asked in a hoarse voice, her once vibrant eyes sweeping over what was left of her home. A crumbling staircase, half of the kitchen gone and a few pieces of the ceiling missing.
The door still locked, to say the least, and the floor was still intact but even Eros knew that it wouldn't be long before everything else came tumbling down on them.
Standing up, Onyx Ashrevion brushed off the fleeing dust on borrowed black dress, the scarf Eros had lent her twined around her neck. Grey fingerless gloves protected her fingers, careful gold eyes flickering around her surroundings. "Yes, I'm pretty sure everything is gathered" she informed, nodding.
"We have to get going. If we want to do this, we have to do it right now while the whole kingdom is still asleep" the Mind Siphon informed, stooping down to the floor once more to scoop down the two black bags loaded will supplies.
Weapons, food, clothes, herbs, water. Anything that would help them on their unplanned journey.
To be honest with herself, she had been taken by complete surprise when Alesandria had come running to her yesterday, begging to pay a visit to Castrin. If she had recollected from her memory, she remembered well that she was the one that proposed the idea.
She knew that Castrin would bow down to his feet to help the ever loving Alesandria learn about her not-so-secret secret magic. She knew with just a quick look of her eyes that he would risk anything just to keep her safe.
Yet when Alesandria had pushed the idea away, Onyx chose not to push it further, knowing if she didn't, there would be more fire and sparks by the end of the day.
"I still can't believe we are about to do this" Alesandria uttered as they neared the door, her arms reaching out to touch the curve of the doorknob. Turning around, she locked her eyes on the Mind Siphon, strands of coiled up hair falling across her forehead.
"Are you sure about this?" she asked, her voice intertwined with worry. "We could always settle ourselves in the forest. Shut ourselves out from the world" she continued, stealing her attention away from hr struggling mother.
A snort escaped the Siphon's lips, her hands outstretched to take Eros's hands in hers. The forest, such a laugh. "Trust me. Being shut out is only going to make things worst" she whispered, nodding carefully.
Taking a few steps towards the village girl and her mother, Onyx used her other hand to settle her palms flat on Alesandria's shoulder, green-gray eyes raising up to connect with the flickering lights that twinkled in the golden orbs of the Mind Siphon.
"Listen to me Alesandria" she spoke in a low tone so that only she could hear. Inside her mind, she could feel Rheynoak tugging on the bond, begging her to listen to him but she just threw up her walls and let his voice die in the back of her mind.
"This is for your mother, for your brother. They deserve more than just living in fear. This is also for you. You can not keep running around, pretending your powers are just going to disappear one day" she informed, holding her gaze with the village girl. "It doesn't work like that. This is for the benefit of you and your family. It's not an option."
The Village girl frowned, sagging her shoulders. The anger and tears in her eyes were present, flickering past her orbs like a gust of wind. Her face seemed to contort into a mask of anger and sorrow, lines of worry tracing her pretty face.
Yet she only nodded and said, "It's about my family, not me" before taking hold of her mother's hand once again. Tearing her gaze from the Mind Siphon's, she turned to the door, turning the knob open and leading her wobbling mother into the open world.
Eros let go of Onyx's hand, following his family out as they all shuffled out into the early morning sun, guiding each other through the slight darkness of the last few minutes of the night.
"You guys go. I'll be right there" she whispered as they walked away, knowing they heard her but chose to not speak back. Sighing, Onyx moved her fingers through her wavy hair, letting her eyes trail their silhouettes.
Yet, Onyx didn't leave, instead walking over to the other side of the weak leaving room, heading over to the crumbling pieces of the unlit fireplace. Stooping down, she reached her hand into the fireplace, letting her ash coated fingers feel free around the dark until cold metal met her flesh.
Letting a wicked smile cross her lips, the Mind Siphon gently wrapped her head around the head of her sword and pulled it out proudly. Pieces of ashes fell from the silver blade, not hiding the beauty of her weapon. The beautifully crafted head of the sword met her eyes, gold and silver plated together to create her mate of destruction.
Getting up, the Mind Siphon quickly slipped the sword underneath the leather holder underneath her dress, letting her weapon slide into place. The tip of the sharpened blade scraped just past her ankle, digging deep into her skin.
The pain was only a little, only vague and Onyx only smiled, knowing that pain would grow into an energy of anger that would help her through their journey.
Taking one last quick look at the tumbling structure, Onyx simply uttered, "Peace be with all the lost souls" before walking out of the house.
The last thing Castrin Madarlon was expecting when he allowed the door to his dwelling open was the exhausted figures of Onyx Ashrevion and Alesandria Erovex, their tired bodies nearly crumbling to the floor as they rushed in.
His starry eyes gawked at the scene, his body stiff as a rock as he watched Alesandria help a burnt, red woman from not falling, adjusting the gray cane within her hands.
Onyx was holding a sleeping little boy in her hands, a boy he immediately recognized as Eros Erovex, Alesandria's little brother.
"What in the-"
"Don't question. Just help us" Onyx pressured, patting her hand against Eros head to keep him asleep. Raising his brows at her. Castrin simply sighed and guided his visitors down the stairs. He let his hands twine around Alesandria's mother waist as he carried some of her weight.
Inside his home was quiet, only the rustling sound of papers scurrying against the dusty floors. Their footsteps echoed against the walls, a cold breeze bristling past their skins as they entered the main hallway.
Once they were in the hallway, the Dark Magic Summoner immediately let go of the woman's waist, turning around to take in the full view presented to him.
A shivering Alesandria was holding the woman as long as she could while Onyx rocked Eros back and forth in her hand. Hanging from both their shoulders were bags, bags clinging with useful things.
His ears immediately perked up, his senses growing strong to the point where it overpowered him. Starry eyes darted around the room, looking for answers he couldn't find.
"Can someone please explain to me what is going on?" be asked, folding his arms across his naked chest. The material of his robe brushed against his abdomen, mus muscles tensing.
"The Star Buds you gave us aren't working" the Mind Siphon explained, her words capturing his attention. A scoff left his lips, his lips pulled into an amused smile. "Are you kidding me? Those Star Buds have been the saving source of half of the magic being that walk on Asxairo. "
Another scoff left her lips. "Well, they didn't work for Alesandria" the Siphon informed him, taking the sleeping boy in her arms and passing him on to the Dark Magic Summoner.
Sighing, he extended his arms for Eros, letting the little boy slip into his arms. His fingers stroked his hair gently, patting his back to keep him asleep. "That seems rather impossible."
"Does it look impossible to you?" The harsh sound of Alesandria amplifying her voice was a shock to both of the magic beings standing in the room, their curious eyes darting over to the brunette who was shaking, even as she set her mother down on the floor to rest.
The poor woman croaked, wrapping her arms around herself as she closed her red, bruised eyes and willed herself to sleep. "Those Skaeu dibt you gave me amplified my powers Castrin" Alesandria exclaimed once again, raising her shaking arms for all of them to see.
Sure enough, the veins in her arms were pulsing gold, shaking with fear, not the rather irrelevant cold. "My mother has attacked a few days ago because of me. " she hissed, her chest heaving as she pointed an arm at her heaving mother.
The blood running within Castrin's body immediately turned ice cold almost instantly, his eyes now gazing down to the suffering woman and seeing outlines of Parcia's face, her hair covering most of her burnt features. Setting down Eros on a stack of books, he moved over to Parcia, letting his fingers graze past her red cheeks as he took her appearance in.
The fact that the once beautiful woman graced with a clear complexion and chocolate brown hair was now reduced to nothing but a suffering pile of red and bruises stung his heart, his fingers shaking as he tucked a strand of her hair aside.
"Castrin, she can't do this anymore. She needs to escape" the Mind Siphon spoke to him, her eyes taking in his every move, every fiber in her body ready for action." The Dark Magic Summoner sighed, running his fingers through his hair.
"I don't know what I can do anymore" he hissed, pulling at the ends of his hair. "Those Skaeu dibts were the only option and now that they don't work, I don't know what I can do anymore" he informed both girls, careful to keep his voice down so that he wouldn't wake up Eros.
A growl rumbled from within Onyx's throat, the last of her restraints breaking free as she took her first big steps towards Castrin. The edge of her sword was digging in between her ankles, the first ooze of blood trailing down her legs. "There has to be something more. We can't live in this wretched kingdom anymore."
"Try asking more nicely and maybe just maybe I'll do something" the Dark Magic Summoner pushed back, challenging the Mind Siphon. She growled once again, taking a step forward.
"I'm not nice in case you haven't noticed."
"And I don't tolerate bullshit from bitchy Siphons in case you haven't noticed."
Another growl, gold eyes piercing into starry blue-violet eyes. "Why you little mother-
Alesandria crossed her arms over Onyx, stopping not only her steps but her sentence as well. "Both of you stop it right now! We don't have time for this!" Her scream echoed out into the halls, disappearing into thin air as soon as it escaped through the other hall.
Taking a deep breath, she gently made her way towards Castrin, telling her eyes not to trail down the perfectly carved body that was him. She told herself not to take in his broad chest or chiseled abdomen or the muscular definition of his arms under the thick black robe.
She told herself not to let her knees buckle even as she twined her arms around his neck, letting her thumb stroke the back of his neck. Their noses were barely apart, their eyes meeting each other as the brunette pulled his ear close to her lips.
"Please, I need your help" she whispered to him, her eyes meeting his dancing kaleidoscope eyes. "My family, my life depends on this. I really need your help. I beg of you." Her plea was a whisper, a breath that hit his skin and sent a trail of shivers running down his back. "You're my only hope."
The two beings stood in front of each other, Castrin keeping his gaze locked with the vibrant green-gray eyes of Alesandria as her fingers stroked the back of his neck, her eyes holding on to his. Inside, his heart was shattering against his ribcage, his skin igniting on fire as her touch seemed to pull him apart.
The brunette's lips parted slightly, her brows raised as she questioned him with a look, waiting for an answer she was desperately hoping was an agreement. This plan depended on it.
"Are you lovebirds done here or are we going to stand here until the townspeople slaughter us too?" Onyx interrupted, her golden gaze darting over to the two beings standing in front of her. Her fingers shook with impatience, her eyes darting quickly between them. "Because if you are, I would rather slaughter myself then."
A stuttered chuckle left Alesandria's lips, her arms falling from the curve of his neck as he rolled his eyes. Licking his lips, he sighed, tugging his dark robe over his exposed chest. "There is one place you can go for now" he uttered finally, walking towards the high window.
His blue-violet eyes flickered upward to the early morning sky that was beginning to lit ablaze, the outlines of the Erabon Mountains peaking up towards the heavens. The forest seemed heavy populated, trees of green intertwined with emerald vines and leaves that crawled from the bark.
"The Erabon Mountains" he whispered, "Alongside the mountain rivers." Taking a deep breath, he turned around to the two female beings, his hesitant gaze darting between the Mind Siphon and the brunette. "It's been abandoned for years and it's protected by a magical layer only us magical beings can trespass."
Taking another step towards the two girls, he crossed his arms over his chest, a frown dragging down his lips. "I will help you girls get there. I will take care of your mother and brother, Alesandria. But you have to promise me that you will not return until you have your powers under control or until you figure out what's going on with you. I can not have you both terrorizing the people of the kingdom and exposing yourself even more."
His gaze lingered on Onyx for a minute, watching with hate-filled eyes as she rolled her eyes but nodded slowly. "I will agree because of her" the Siphon hissed at him, darting her gaze temporarily over to Alesandria. "You can go screw yourself."
A wicked smile pulled at his lips. "As long as you are out of my sight" he retorted back to her, shaking his head. He then turned his gaze over to Alesandria who watched him with wondering eyes, her lips parted as a thin breath left her lips. He took a couple steps towards her, his body closer to hers now. Gently, he reached out to stroke the structure of her flushed cheekbones, taking in her starving thin figure.
She didn't flinch nor look away as he took her hand in his other hand, squeezing her fingers lightly. "Promise me that. Please" he uttered to her, still stroking her cheekbone so tentatively. "Please promise me that."
Her green-gray eyes held onto his gaze, flickering down to the hand that squeezed her fingers tightly. Her eyes moved over to Onyx who waited impatiently to the fallen figures of Eros and Parcia. Her gaze grazed upon the gold veins that illuminated her skin back to those starry eyes that looked down upon her.
Alesandria breathed in deeply, nodding her head and agreeing for the sake of her family. For the sake of Onyx. For the sake of herself.
Licking her lips, she nodded once more, uttering the words she hadn't uttered in a long time. "I promise."
A/N: And that is the end of another chapter! I am sorry for the wait. This writer's block is seriously killing me! Hopefully, I can get this thing out of the way and write freely without pondering on anything!
This chapter was a lot longer than I expected but I was rather proud of it! I like the descriptions as always and the bond between not only Alesandria and her family but with Castrin really showed in this chapter.
I might go back and edit and add some scenes to it later but as of now, I am leaving it as it is! I love it and I hope you guys do too ^_^
