➽Chapter Thirty Two
She's bad....she's evil but Yagein still has awesome hair doing so ^_^
Yagein Washli was surprised, to say the least when she opened the door to her shelter and found Ivory and Storm standing in front of her, caked in a layer of blood.
The dark alley which she hid in did not shed any light but the tiny sprinkles of light coming from her hideout did, even as she let the door close slightly.
"You two just couldn't help yourself could you?" she hissed at the both of them, her gray eyes taking in their shivering form. "What mortal did you get into a fight with now?" she asked, sniffing the air. "I can smell their blood even all the way from here."
Ivory sighed while Storm frowned, her red hair falling across her jade green eyes. "It was no mortal your majesty" the witch replied back, throwing her look to the floor.
The SilverClaw Witch frowned. "Then who was it? I can smell mortal blood on your skins" she seethed, her cold gaze taking in their miserable forms. "Lying to me will do you no good."
"We are not sure your majesty but they were definitely not mortal. They couldn't have been" Ivory responded back in a tone that was no way to address the queen. Yet Yagein kept her patience, iron nails curling at the two witches.
Her gray eyes showed no remorse as her hand tightened around the witches' hands and she pulled them inside her little hideout without a second thought. Storm stumbled upon the floors and hit a wall, a groan falling out of her lips as a sharp pain overcame her body.
Ivory, on the other hand, was thrown into a chair, the ringing sound of the slamming door echoing deep inside her ear.
"I should have both of you slaughtered for getting into a fight that could have exposed our identities" A curse escaped from the queen's lips, walking over to the back of the room where Alysra and Roxanne stood, the Amulet of Durvalein nestled in their hands.
"I should have you both thrown into fire pits and let you burn alive for such utter foolish" she hissed on, her eyes locking on the magenta red ruby that hung off the thin, gold chain. A reeling feeling fluttered inside her stomach, her guts twisting into a knot the more she looked at the amulet.
It had belonged to her sister before she died in the horrific fire that took out her entire empire. It was a damn shame that amulet hadn't burned down with her.
Turning her gaze away from the wretched stone, she walked over to the back of her tiny shelter, walking past the shelves that held jars of mysterious potions and ingredients in their marble dome to the gray cloak that hung off a hook nailed into a wall.
Pulling the cloak down and slipping it over her body so that the material covered her silver dress that hung to her knees, Yagein turned around to face the four witches again, a frown tugging on her lips.
Storm had pulled herself off the wall, now sitting down in a corner next to her many arrays of books stacked neatly, silver claws and green eyes blazing with impatience while Ivory casted her gaze over to the queen.
"Alysra and Roxanne are going to accompany me to Castrin's hideout where we will confront him about the current state of Venix" she said in a cold tone, her voice flat as she casted her gaze over to the two witches.
"Alysra holds the Amulet of Durvalein" she explained further on, walking over to the red-haired witch who handed over the precious piece of jewelry without any second thought. The cold stone bit into the dry skin of Yagein's hands, the inside of the amulet swirling with the last few drops of blood from the Draywin bloodline.
The bloodline she so despised, the one she had been so sure she had burned to ashes a long time ago.
But the gods had to cruel to her, fate having no remorse as it managed to keep her sister's daughter alive without her knowledge. Even the smallest thought of the damned girl had her blood boiling underneath her fingers.
"The amulet will glow when somebody of the Draywin bloodline is within our presence" the queen explained, tucking the stone into the inside pockets of her cloak. "Something I am counting on when we confront Castrin."
Alysra interrupted her, red eyes dancing with intruigment. "It will happen" she informed her queen, tipping her head to the side. "The amount of magic that one stone wields is enough to kill an immortal. If a true immortal of that bloodline is near us, we should be able to sense it even without the stone."
The queen simply frowned once again, her nails tapping along the ruby. "We are not counting on dying" she simply said, plain and simple. "And if we do, I swear to the stars and gods, I will rise from my grave and finish what should have been done a long time ago."
The witch immediately became quiet, casting her gaze over to Roxanne who avoided her gaze, pushing her arms through the cloak the dangled idly on her shoulders.
Clearing her throat, Yagein ran her fingers through her long, gray hair as she walked past Ivory and Storm, her cloak whispering past their feet as she ignored them with no mercy. Alysra and Roxanne followed her hot on her heel, keeping their heads down as they passed by their fellow witches.
When the SilverClaw Queen was at the door, opening it to reveal the dark alley that never seemed to devour any light into its depth, Ivory let out a groan, capturing everyone's attention. "What about us?" she asked in a bold voice, darting her fingers in the space between herself and Storm. "What are we supposed to do? Rot in this place all day?"
Yagein's eyes burned wild and true, her words more terrifying than any other weapon or blood that has ever been in her hands, "If I were to make the decision, you would both be dead right now" she warned, her hands curling around her staff. "What you did today was selfish and could have destroyed everything."
She shook her head, disappointment written across her faces. "You will both stay here and guard my shelter. If anything happens, the bond between all of us will be your safest choice."
Her words became twisted the more she spoke, practically hissing at the two witches when she was done talking. Shaking her head once more, Yagein turned around to face the dark alley.
Not turning her head around, her words still cut deep into the witches' bones when she seethed, "Don't let anyone in or out or else your blood will be the one thing smeared on the walls."
The doors opened to Yagein as she made her way into Castrin's home hidden away by the stairs that led up to a nearby tavern.
The door creaked as it opened, plumes of dust and cobwebs intertwining together above on the ceiling. It wasn't as stuffy as she had imagined, rather airy as she entered the empty hallway.
Figuring out where Castrin resided wasn't as difficult as she had imagined. A single spell and she was able to pinpoint the exact location of that damned Dark Magic Summoner.
But she had not signed up for traveling to the other side of town just to reach him. Still, the sun was sinking slowly behind the horizon, the sky bursting into hues of violet and amber and she was running out of time.
It was now or never.
"It seems as if Castrin doesn't know the first thing about decency and first impressions" commented Roxanne as they made their way down another flight of stairs, their shoes scuffing the spiraling concrete stairs.
A laugh escaped from Alysra's lips, her red eyes taking in their dark surroundings. "Or anything about lighting a freaking candle at least" she commented as they descended down the staircase, entering another long hallway.
Yagein couldn't help but smile at the humorous jokes being thrown around about Castrin, even her own gray eyes taking in the lack of decorations that lined the walls. Everything seemed dull, gray.
Much like Castrin himself.
The sound of a child laughing was the first hint that they have approached the right place, the tiny streak of light spilling into the upcoming hallway only adding on to her suspicion.
"Stay cautious and low" the queen warned her fellow witches that followed her, her footsteps turning quiet and soft as she allowed herself to gently curve around a corner, her staff gripped firmly in her hand. She plastered herself against the wall, listening carefully.
There, standing in the middle of the book-cluttered room, his hands wrapped around a small child and laughter bubbling out of his lips was the one and only, Castrin Madarlon.
The black curls that entangled themselves within the Dark Magic Summoner's hair was a dead giveaway, not a silver streak of gray outlining his dark hair.
Damn the old witch's aging curse that was bestowed upon the witches a long time ago. Of course, it didn't exist any longer since it was broken years ago but the older witches were forced to embrace their wrinkles while the newer, younger witches were left with skin as clear as day.
A man stood in front of the little boy, tickling him with happiness. The young boy let out a laugh, his hands slapping the older man's hands away as he doubled over in laughter, his light brown hair catching the late sun.
"Mv tkadaekl liukt" the little boy expressed in between breaths, brushing his curls away. "From laughing so much." The two men shared his laughter, reaching out tickle him again.
Yagein clapped sarcastically as she unveiled herself into the light, approaching the group of three slowly and carefully. An animal eyeing its prey. "I must say," she said even as the little boy whimpered, "this is quite the reunion."
Roxanne and Alysra followed her close behind, their eyes taking in the queen's nemesis. A growl emanated from Castrin's lips, his hands hiding Eros in his safe grip. "You are not welcomed here" he hissed back at her, holding the boy close to him.
"I don't remember you uttering those words to me the last time we parted ways" she retorted back to him, her words laced with pure venom. She took another step forward, startling the little boy. "Besides, I thought we left on good terms."
A mocking chuckle came from the other man standing next to the Dark Magic Summoner. "As if anyone is ever on good terms with you, Yagein" he said in such a chilling tone. His broad figure turned around to reveal a face she hadn't seen in years. Pure, dark brooding eyes ringed with a ruby tint and a handsome face that could shatter the hearts of every woman in Serius.
It took Yagein a second to recollect the powerful being in front of her, her fingers digging deep into the hard surface of her staff. "Emperor of Elsavior, what a surprise" she replied in a sarcastic tone, her lips twisting into a nasty smirk.
Draco scowled back, crossing his arms over his chest. His eyes quickly took in the two witches that stood on each side of her, quiet but their eyes telling him everything he needed to know. They were all watching carefully.
"I just wanted to discuss some business Castrin and I supposedly completed a long time ago" she said in a voice that didn't quite match the cold fire burning deep within her eyes. Draco scowled once more, shaking his head as he watched the witch take several steps towards his friend.
The Dark Magic Summoner held Eros close to him as the witch smiled wickedly at the boy, watching as his brown eyes widened with fear dancing in them. "And what is this handsome boy's name?" she asked, her iron nails curling towards him. "How old are you?"
Eros's eyes inspected her features, his fingers curling into Castrin's shirt as he buried his head in the crook of his neck. Still carefully with the pure innocence of an eight-year-old, he replied back, "Eight. I'm eight."
Yagein smiled brightly at him, her fingers reaching out to him even though Castrin kept backing away from her. "Eight. What a fine age for such innocence" she drawled on.
"Something you obviously lack" Draco commented, capturing her attention. Her once kind eyes turned into empty orbs of isolation, her body turning to face the emperor. "And I suppose you have some lurking in your blood as well" she commented back, raising her brows.
The Witches that had accompanied her took a step forward in synchronization, sensing the dangerous blood brewing between the two. "I am here to discuss business with Castrin not fool around with you."
A dark spark lit up the emperor's eyes, a smile slipping on his lips. "Business to you is a dagger in the heart" he hissed at her, closing the gap between them. "Or an arrow right in between the eyes."
Another impatient smile tightened on Yagein's lips. In a gritty voice, she replied, "Something I am very much considering right now."
After very much consideration, Castrin passed on the child to his friend before facing the queen, crossing his hands over his chest. He watched with his other eye as the witches behind her stayed where they were supposed to be, their eyes straying to the ceiling.
"I don't want to be a part of your revenge plan" he said to her plain and simple, no doubt lingering in between. "What I did was a long time ago and I let my love for the queen decided what was best instead of using my head."
"But one can not simply back away from their past" the SilverClaw Queen reminded him, gripping her staff in a deadly grip. The snake's fangs winked at the Dark Magic Summoner as she spoke, "The baby was supposed to burn a long time ago. She was supposed to die" she seethed, shaking her head. "You know that the child was going to ruin all of us."
"No, she was going to ruin you" Castrin sneered back at her, pointing a finger at her. "You felt threatened by your sister. You knew she was more powerful than you and the fact that she abandoned you left you broken" The Dark Magic Summoner snarled, jabbing his finger into the snake head of her staff.
Yagein scoffed, shaking her head as she took a few steps forward, shaking her head. "That's not true and you know that" she hissed at him in disbelief. "She was a danger to all the witches and her betrayal to the family was an utter disgrace."
Her witches were closing in on the two magical beings, their powers swirling into a dark cloud that danced around the curve of their polished, silver nails. The dark haired one tilted her head, her fox-like eyes narrowing to slits.
Draco saw the escalating tension, not knowing what else to do. He couldn't move forward to protect his friend as Eros laid in his arms, a petrified look on his face but he couldn't let himself be completely useless.
The line between sacrifice and danger was thinning.
"And you couldn't deal with that. You couldn't deal with the fact that in the light of her betrayal, your sister became something you could never accomplish" the Dark Magic Summoner pushed, backing the witch into a small corner in the room.
"You couldn't face the fact that no matter what you did, you were just a mere speck of dust compared to her" he hissed at her, jabbing hs finger at her staff. "No matter what crown you wear on your head, you will always be nothing compared to her."
A harsh, short silence filled the room, Yagein snarling as growled at her nemesis. Her eyes moved past him, towards Draco who watched the scene with intriguing eyes to the little boy that was cradled in his arms.
The boy, so pure and innocent stared back at her, setting off a fire in her heart that has laid dormant for years.
With a short breath, she simply uttered to him, "My sister was a damnation. She was going to destroy all of us and her daughter was going to be worst. I did what I had to do."
Her words were plain and blank, no emotion dancing within her words as she breathed, "You would have done the same thing if you were me. But your stupid, useless love for my sister has blinded you."
Castrin only chuckled in her face, shaking his head. "I am not blind Yagein. Simply seeing through your thin walls that you have built in order to hide your scars."
"You would know a lot about scars wouldn't you, Castrin?" There was no warning in her words, no gleam in Yagein's eyes and no mercy written on her face. With reflexes so quick, even Roxanne and Alysra were blinded by it, she pushed Draco into a wall that was lined with a stack of books.
Draco crashed and stumbled upon the books, his head hitting the floor. Eros had flown out of his arms and was now held against his throat by Yagein herself, her iron nails curling into the poor boy's neck. Her other two witches were holding his body still, their sharp nails dancing across his delicate flesh.
"You know, all my life I had despised my sister for what she did. How she betrayed our family and ran off with a demi-hybrid for the sake of love" she SilverClaw Queen seethed, her grip tightening around the boy's neck.
Eros wheezed painfully, his tiny hands no match for her ancient hands. "Let him go before I do something I might despise myself" Castrin warned, walking towards hers.
His hands barely grazed past Eros's arms when Roxanne turned around and used her powers to fly him back into a wall. His body flew to the nearby wall where Draco struggled to get up, his back hitting the wall.
"She left us, a barred throne with no one to fill it. Our empire was slowly dying and she abandoned us at the worst time. Better yet, she went off and built an empire of her own, one that she threatened me with if I ever stepped foot on her land."
Draco managed to push himself up, his body only allowing him a few steps towards the queen before he stopped short, a constant pain throbbing in his legs. "The child had nothing to do with your hatred for your sister" he hissed at her, his eyes moving towards Eros whose face was turning a sickly blue.
A cackle fell from her lips, cruel and short. "But don't you see. The child was a damn spawn on my own sister. That child would grow up to be a cruel, heartless bitch with too much power to handle. That child was a damnation that had to die."
"And every child born into this world is just a replication of their filthy parents, cruel and evil" she stated, her hard gaze falling to Eros. "And they will always be that way."
"You live a very sad, dark life if you truly believe children are the exact same replication of their parents" Draco commented, taking slow steps towards her.
Yagein simply shrugged. "My life has always been sad and dark."
Her cold gaze traveled to Castrin, who slowly pulled himself up, his hand covering his lips. Using her free hand, Yagein used her powers almost like a vine to constrict his movements.
His breaths immediately became hurried, his hands tightening around his chest until his breath was practically being squeezed out of his body. "Castrin's undying love for my sister has blinded him to the fact that her daughter is lurking somewhere in the outside world and we are all screwed unless we get rid of her."
The anger in her voice was so pungent, her hands shaking as her fingers curled deep into her palms. Her other hand that held Eros's neck tightly never loosened its grip, even drawing blood from the poor boy's neck.
"You agree to help me find my sister's daughter and kill her once and for all unless I will kill this poor excuse of life right in front of your eyes" the SilverClaw Witch threatened, shaking the boy a little.
"And you know, I am not afraid to spill some blood."
Castrin contemplated on this ultimatum, his starry eyes traveling from the dying figure of Eros to the violently shaking queen who held him in death's hands. Draco watched him with curious, eyes, his hands curled into fists that were ready to kill and his back rippling with the outlines of his wings.
He could have made the right choice. He should have and he would have. But a voice whispered in the back of his head, a strange dosage of courage running through his bones.
His eyes darted to his friend - signaling him - and he took a big, painful breath before uttering the words, "Damn you, Yagein. For eternity."
The gods themselves wouldn't have been able to process what had happened, how fast it happened when Draco pushed himself off his heels and slammed into Yagein Washli with all his might.
A mighty cry fell from her lips, her grip on Eros loosening until the poor boy dropped to the floor and her magic restraining on Castrin loosening.
The force he wielded sent her slamming into a wall, her ancient figure tumbling to the floor in a heap. The two witches that had followed her attacked him, their claws gripping him tightly as they scratched at his skin until blood pooled.
With a strength of a thousand storms, they hurled him into a wall, baring their iron teeth at him. They drew nearer, fast and strong.
Yet Castrin was faster, pushing himself off the floor and quickly closing his eyes to chant a spell. It was quick, a sudden sleepiness dawning into the rather bloody atmosphere that surrounded him.
Bu whatever the spell was, it worked, slowly stopping the movement of Roxanne and Alysra as they became weak and fatigue before falling to the floor in a temporary sleep.
Draco cursed underneath his breath, pushing himself up on steady legs. Blood was trickling down his arm, his lips bleeding as well as his dark eyes took in everything.
Yagein and her accompanied witches were all silent, sleeping in a temporary smell that would wear off in a couple of hours. Even Eros was slumbering, his tiny body curled into a protective positioned and his arms wrapped around himself.
"And this is why you never work with a SilverClaw Witch" he whispered to his friend who ran his long fingers through his dark hair. "They are crazy and quite delusional."
A sigh escaped from Castrin's lips. "Never again, Draco. Never again" he promised, shaking his head. "We have to hide their bodies. Parcia will be back before night and I don't think I can subtly excuse myself out of this."
"You have a lower level in this shelter of yours, don't you?" his friend asked, brooding eyes taking in the blood that dripped down his arms. "It won't be permanent but we can definitely imprison them for a while."
Combining all their strengths, the two magical beings were able to sling the unconscious bodies of the three witches over their shoulders before making their way down a long corridor to another set of spiraling stairs that led to a hollow dungeon, a few candles flickering in the darkness.
There were only a few cells, the horrible stench of sewage water and god knows what else surrounding the musty room. Without any care, Draco threw Yagein's body into one empty cell, her body slumping against the walls. Her staff clattered to the floor, her cloak surrounding her like a blanket.
Castrin separated Alysra's and Roxanne's bodies in two separate cells before locking the door, making sure that each latch was secured with some sort of holding spell.
When he was all done, he walked back to stand by Draco, his arms crossed over his chest. "I am going to contact Yongui tonight to join us" his friend muttered to him, his gaze still transfixed on the SilverClaw Witch.
"We are going to need some backup to tame these bitches."
