➽Chapter Five

Mhm..Hellooo Rheynoak ^_^

The midnight sky stretched far and wide, with nothing to be seen in its depths.

In a private room draped with dark curtains laid Onyx, her figure shifting underneath the blankets.

Rheynoak sat in a velvet chair in the far corner, watching the siphon as she twisted underneath the sheets, her legs tangling with the silk blankets. A groan escaped her lips, tiny drops of sweat beading down her nose.

He couldn't help but watch her in fascination, his hazel eyes flickering down to the sword that lay beside her, crown jewels twinkling on the sides of the crafted blade.

He eyed it with hateful eyes, a burning sensation rippling through his body.

Grabbing a glass of wine, Rheynoak gently sipped from the cup, frowning at the sour taste.

Setting the cup down, his attention went back to Onyx as she groaned again, her body tossing underneath the silk sheets at a faster pace. The strands of hair hanging stuck to her forehead, her fingers trembling.

Casting his look down at the hardcover blue book sitting in his lap, he curled his fingers around the cover and moved it over to a nearby table, placing a tiny feather in between the pages for later.

Lucien's magic was beginning to unravel, with his permission of course, and it was taking its toll on her. Onyx's fingers gripped the sheets violently as she whispered inaudible words in foreign languages even he couldn't understand.

A strangled gasp came from her lips, the sound of her heartbeat thundering in his ears as she struggled to breathe. Her legs kicked in the air, her nails ripping into the thin fabric of the sheets.

Rheynoak watched Onyx, feeling the magic radiating off of her as heartbeat hammered to the point of deafening one's ear and the sweat beading down her neck was practically a river.

He watched until the magic vanished and she was suddenly jolted awake. She sat up with a heavy breath, her chest heaving up and down.

Rheynoak watched with wide eyes, the siphon writhing her legs around the sheets as she clutched her chest in a startled manner. Her eyes looked around, unfamiliar with her surroundings until her gaze landed on him.

"Good evening darling" he welcomed, a sly smirk on his lips as he watched Onyx frown at him. She rolled her eyes, kicking the silk blankets off her feet. Her foot touched the ground, a pained wince leaving her lips as she collapsed on the bed.

He frowned and looked away as she groaned in pain, mumbling profanities under her breath. Gripping the arms of his chair, he got up and walked over to a nearby table.

A silver kettle sat still, a grey cup sitting next to it. He gently poured the tea into the cup, slipping a plate underneath it

"Don't burn yourself, sweetheart" he warned as he carried the cup over to her. He watched as the siphon dug her sharp nails into the silk blanket, pulling herself up. A grim frown was on her lips as her gaze met Rheynoak's.

"No wonder I'm having nightmares" she uttered, curling her fingers around the cup. "You're here."

A small laugh left Rheynoak's lips, his fingers brushing against her arms as he stood up.

He noticed her shaking arms when his fingers made contact with her skin, her gaze avoiding his as he sat down on the bed.

He watched as she raised the glass to her lips and drank the tea.

"This reminds me of our times together" he whispered, pushing a strand of hair away from her face. "You always allowed me to make you tea when you were sick."

"Now is not the time to reminiscence, Rheynoak. I don't have the energy for it" the siphon warned.

Still, the tribe leader raised his brows. "You can't tell me you don't miss me or us" he whispered.

This time, Onyx said nothing.

The tribe leader watched as she finished the tea, setting the cup back on the coaster plate.

"Better?" Rheynoak asked, settling his hand down her back. He could feel her body shiver, small goosebumps rising on her skin as she shrugged off his touch.

"Don't touch me. Get away from me before I slit your throat" she warned, setting down the cup and plate on a nearby night table. He shrugged, letting his hand fall from the middle of her back and into his lap, his fingers clasping together.

"At least now you know the consequences if you try to break my rules" Rheynoak uttered.

He could still hear the faint beat of her heart as she turned around to glare at him.

"Go fuck yourself. You do it all the time anyways" Onyx spat at him before turning away. The tribe leader watched as she reached for her sword, her curious eyes inspecting the clean edges of the blade.

Rheynoak saw the look in her eyes as she looked at the handcrafted sword, her fingers trailing down the gold dragons that outlined the head of the sword in admiration.

"Well that's not a very nice thing to say, is it?" he whispered, leaning towards her. She shivered once again.

"I'm not known for being nice" she whispered back, pushing her palms against his chest as she shoved him away. "For someone who is five hundred years old and has been reincarnated three times, you really can't take a hint."

Shrugging, Rheynoak leaned away from the siphon, crossing his hands over his back as he stood up.

His footsteps echoed in the private room as he paced around. "So, could you please explain to me what was so important that you needed Venix's assistance?"

More silence filled the room, the soft shuffling of her body moving around the bed the only sound that was heard. Rheynoak listened quietly, his hands curling into fists as he impatiently waited.

"That's something I'll never share with you."

The harsh sound of her voice captured his attention and he turned around to face her.

"And why is that?" he asked, noticing the shift in her body as she eyed him. She shrugged, her hand curling around her sword.

Instead, she reached over for the cup, dangling it in front of his face. "Would you be a dear and get me more tea?" Onyx asked, smiling coyly at him as she placed the cup in his hand.

Feeling the pressure build in his chest, he grabbed the cup from her hand and headed over to the kettle. He poured more tea but opened a silver container and mixed a white powder into the hot liquid.

It quickly dissolved, as if it had never been placed there in the first place and the tribe leader gave the tea a good stir before bringing it back to the siphon.

"Here you go" he muttered, handing her the silver cup. She smiled, taking a sip of the tea.

"But listen" he hissed as soon as she pulled the cup from his hand. "I will pry the answer out of you even if it means ripping your mouth off your pretty little face."

He could see the emerald rings around her eyes flash and a smile curl on her lips. "Well, cheers to that" she uttered, taking another long sip from her tea.

Rheynoak frowned, straightening himself up. A knock rapped on the door and he got up, still clenching his fists. He opened the door to reveal Lucien, his usual dark cloak around his shoulders.

"What do you want now?" Rheynoak asked in a rather rugged tone, his eyes scanning his right-hand man in aggravation.

"We have a problem Rheynoak. It's something very important" Lucien said softly, his fingers tucked away inside his cloak. Pursing his lips together, Rheynoak nodded.

A violent cough stuttered from behind him and he turned around to see Onyx clutching her chest as another unpleasant cough left her lips. Her body was lurched forward, nails digging into her chest.

"What did you do? What did you put in this tea?" she asked between breaths of air, her eyes barely able to meet his as he walked over to her.

Gently, he reached over to push her hair aside, curling it behind her ear.

"Only poison, love. I'll see you when you wake up and maybe you can finally tell me what you've been up to" he whispered in her ear as she gagged.

Her hands moved up to grip her throat like she was attempting to scratch the poison out. Her eyes watered and her cheeks flushed red.

But soon, her body fell limp and she collapsed back on the mattress in defeat.

Rheynoak watched with steady eyes as the cup of tea slipped from her hands and shattered on the floor.

"What are you trying to tell me?" Rheynoak asked, pacing back and forth in the conference hall. His cloak was off, the dark material discarded on the carpeted floors. Lucien stood in the corner, his hands tucked in front of him.

"There has been talk and several reports amongst the tribal leaders about a sighting in the kingdom of Serius" Lucien explained, watching as the leader strode around the room at a quick pace. "Apparently there is another Mind Siphon residing there."

A scoff left Rheynoak's lips as he stopped in front of the blazing fireplace. He watched the flames crack and sizzle, casting dark shadows across the walls. "That's impossible. Onyx is the last Mind Siphon left. Their breed became extinct as the war ended. My father made sure of that."

"Well, it seems like there are a few of them harboring around the kingdoms, keeping their identity a secret" Lucien explained to him, locking his jaw. "But this certain girl in the kingdom of Serius seems to be a vital target."

"How did the others find her?" Rheynoak asked.

Lucien only shrugged, shaking his head.

"I don't know. The messengers dropped a letter by my chambers today from Rashnov, demanding a meeting of all the tribe leaders to discuss this discovery."

"Interesting" was all Rheynoak could utter as he paced around the room, slowly nodding.

The beginning phase of a plan began to form in his head, wicked ideas embedding themselves within each other. "Very interesting."

Lucien nodded as well although his gaze never met the leader. He watched as Rheynoak leaned over the long wooden table, his palms pressed flat on the surface.

"So what do we do now?" Lucien asked in a hesitant voice.

Rheynoak pondered on his ideas, his eyes simply concentrating on the twinkling embers of the fire. It was silent for a moment, only the howl of the wind and the crackle of the fire to be heard.

Finally, he nodded to no one, knowing what to do.

How to do it. When to do it.

A dark chuckle left Rheynoak's lips, his eyes bright with chaos as he turned around to his right-hand man. "Reply back to Rashnov. I'll be leaving for the meeting before the sun rises tomorrow."

Slowly, he slid his gaze from the fire to meet Lucien's gaze. He cracked his knuckles, folding his fingers together.

"And then, we'll capture the prize."
