Chp. 29 "A Serious Talk"
Chp. 29 “A Serious Talk”
I was excited that I had done so good with my first try in using my Telekinesis. I was proud of myself, and I knew now that since I had done so well the first time, my second and third would be much better. Learning your power was like riding a bike, the first time you were nervous and you probably didn’t get too far. The second time you got on it was a bit better, and the third time you felt confident enough to make it down the street.
It was the same way with mastering your power.
Once you got the hang of it, it was like riding a bike, and it would come like second nature to you. It would be shaky and sloppy the first couple of tries, but once you get the feel for it nothing could stop you.
But getting the hang of it really tired you out, mentally and physically.
We were currently on our way to eat dinner, remembering that none of us had eaten today. We stopped at a nice little diner and we were eager to get food in our bellies after a hard day’s work.
Max spoke, “So, how many days are we waiting till we leave for Phase one?”
I remembered Gage, instantly responding, “Well, Gage needs to clear it with the station first, and we need to pack. I’m going to start packing once I get home, and I’m sure Avery will need to talk with her parents…”
She looked at me and rolled her eyes, “Screw them. I’m doing what I want.”
I felt my heart dampen at her attitude towards them, knowing she was still upset over graduation. I felt bad, mostly because I knew her parents cared about her, but she had a feeling they didn’t. All parents cared about their kids, whether or not they showed it.
But I couldn’t blame her for her foul attitude.
We were now squeezing into a booth while Max continued to ramble on about the Bureau. I couldn’t really focus on him anymore because I was too fascinated with my new power. I stared at the salt shaker at the end of the table, focusing on my invisible “arm” and holding my left hand out on the table. I was still fatigued from earlier, but I wanted to practice as much as I could.
I grabbed the salt shaker with my “arm” and pulled it towards my left hand quickly, feeling the cool glass press against my palm as I held it. I smiled victoriously as Max scolded, “Andy! Don’t do that in public you idiot! People will see!”
I rolled my eyes, “Max, it’ll be ok. We can blame it on the wind.”
He groaned in frustration as Avery grabbed my hand from under the table, pulling me out of my daydream. I smiled at her as the waitress came and took our orders. I was so ready to eat but all I could really think about now was us traveling the country all the way to New York.
The Bureau was in Buffalo, New York, which was on the Western outskirts of the state. It was a long trip but we knew it wouldn’t be anywhere near us, and we would need to prepare soon.
There was no time to waste.

After eating Max, Avery, and I headed back out, dropping Max off at his house to inform Gage of today’s events. As for Avery and I, we would need to stop at my house and talk to my parents, who should be home by now. I would explain everything to them because I hadn’t spoken to them since the day of graduation.
And I missed them.
We pulled up in my driveway and exited, making our way into the house and seeing my parents in the kitchen. They smiled, welcoming us both in as we joined them at the table, “Andy, we’ve been waiting to talk to you. How was the trip to Louisiana?”
I smiled, realizing they probably didn’t know their long-lost friend, Fred Mason was dead. I decided to skip out on telling them that right away. I smiled, “It was great, and Teal told me a lot about everything that went down all those years ago. You guys adopted me because they needed you to, and that’s the most amazing thing I’ve ever heard.”
My dad hugged my mom around the waist, pulling her into him while he nodded, “We knew it was the right thing to do, and your mom and I fell in love with you. You were the most adorable baby, Andy.”
I dropped my jaw in sarcasm, “Are you saying I’m not adorable anymore?!” They laughed slightly at the joke but I knew if I didn’t bring up something else, Fred would come up, and I didn’t want that. I pushed, “So, the Bureau…”
Both of their eyes snapped up, and I knew this was going to be a touchy subject considering they were both involved. My mom sighed, “Honey, why would you need to go to the Bureau, you’re not in danger.”
“But all of you are, mom there’s a disease killing thousands of people a day now, it’s only a matter of time before it makes its way down here.” My voice was frantic and I knew they had to agree to me going there, I knew it was important for them to accept it.
My mom looked at my dad uneasily, “Then we’re coming.”
“No,” I realizing my response had come off quite bitchy, but I was only protective. “Avery, Max, and Max’s older brother Gage is coming with me, we need to leave soon though…”
My dad’s eyes looked worried, clear confusion on how to approach this situation. I knew it was hard allowing me to go all the way to New York without them, but they also knew the potential dangers. I became more impatient, “Mom, dad… they need me to find a cure. They need someone who can Heal.”
They knew about my power, they knew I had multiple, and I saw memories flash through their eyes. They were thinking of Fred, my biological dad, and how he had that power before he was killed. My dad’s low tone filled my ears, “Teal and Fred know about this?”
I felt Avery stiffen at the mention of Fred, and I knew she was feeling the same thing as me. We were walking a thin line, and I knew I needed to play it safe. I sighed, deciding to completely ignore the question, “Look, they need me, and I have to go, or else the disease might make it here and you guys will contract it. I can’t watch you guys die when I know I can do something about it… Please trust me.”
I knew my parents had been keeping up with the disease, but I didn’t think they understood how fast it was spreading. Soon the whole world would become complete pandemonium while people started dying and trying to quarantine themselves from the real world.
My parents knew this would happen if I didn’t go.
“How long?”
It was like they both spoke in unison, like they had read each other’s minds, and I looked at the cabinet. I didn’t know exactly how long, but I could give them an estimate. I sighed, “Possibly a couple weeks at least, we’re not sure. The trip there will take three to four days, and then once we get there we have to be briefed and they will start working with me for a cure. They need to somehow find an antibiotic for this disease using my Healing DNA, but I’m not sure how long it’ll take.”
My dad shook his head, “Andy, with your ability, they’re gonna give you a really hard time if you want to leave.”
I nodded, remembering my dad Fred, and how he had practically been forced to stay. I knew he stayed mostly for the fact that he wanted to shut down the F.P.S., but the Bureau needed him. Unfortunately the government got to him first and killed him, putting him out of the business altogether.
“Don’t worry, I’ll persuade them if they try to force anything upon me.”
My mom and dad eyed me heavily, and soon I was feeling as if I was going to break under their stare. They were contemplating but I knew in the end they would allow me to go, because the world needed me. I needed to go and help find a cure, and I knew if we waited the disease would wipe out half the world’s population within three months.
Then once again they nodded towards me, speaking in unison, “When are you leaving?”
I felt the pressure on my heart release as I looked at Avery in victory. I responded, “Possibly in a couple of days, we need to pack heavy and Gage needs to clear everything up with the police station.”
My mom nodded, “Well, you better start packing now.”
I smiled, knowing that my parents trusted me completely with this situation. “Yea, we’re going do that now. And tonight I’m going to Avery’s to help her pack too.”
They both agreed to our plan as Avery and I headed to my room and began packing clothes. I packed everything from jeans to muscle shirts, new and old shoes and toiletries, not including my toothbrush. I would pack a lighter travel bag for the days we were on the road, but for now we were focusing on just getting enough clothes in for the trip altogether.
Avery spoke while digging in my drawers and pulling out T-shirts, “Your parents are really cool, Andy.”
I smiled at the thought of Avery liking my parents, knowing it was hard not to like them. They were so down to earth and cool, “Thanks.”
Then Avery made a whistling sound and held up one of my pink thongs, waving it in midair. She smirked, “Oh damn, you’re gonna have to pack some of these!”
I ran over to her, snatching the underwear out her hand and throwing it into my underwear pile. I felt my face blush in embarrassment, but I didn’t know what to say to that action. I felt my heart beat pick up as her lips grazed my ear, “I would love for you to spend the night at my house tonight…”
Her seductive voice made my knees weak, and as they began to shake at the thought I felt it become hard to stand. I had forgotten about her stupid joke about my underwear as her hands made their way down my sides. I looked into her mesmerizing eyes that held green and blue flecks, and her pink lips that were so inviting…
How could I not accept her offer?
I smiled, “How can I say no to you?”
She smirked eagerly, “You can’t.”
I tilted my head in amusement, realizing she was trying to act all high and mighty. She thought I was wrapped around her finger, and in a sense I was, but she was not going to get cocky with me. I bit my lips out of instinct, realizing I needed to show her I wasn’t all passive towards her. I had plenty of self-control, but when it came to Avery I had to admit, it was quite difficult.
I shoved her backwards, watching her eyes widen as she gazed up at me from my bed. Before she could get up I was crawling on top of her, pinning her hands to her sides. I whispered, “Oh I can, but I also know you can’t say no to me either, Avery Ryan.”
My lips were inches away from hers, so close that I could smell her cinnamon gum that was currently not being chewed. She was staring up at me in awe as I moved my lips to her neck, feeling my blonde hair fall around her face like a curtain. I could feel her heart beat against my chest as I pressed our bodies together, feeling the familiar sense of lust take over. I had been craving to feel this girl since I met her, and every time we got close something would interrupt us.
But I wanted her tonight, and I didn’t want any disruptions.
Her hands found my ass, but I had jean shorts on that which painfully blocked her from what she wanted. I smiled as I heard her groan into my mouth that was now on hers. I whispered, “I think we’re done here, do you want to go back to your place?”
I pulled back from her enough to see her eyes dark with desire, and I knew I had gotten to her. She smiled devilishly as she nodded, “Let’s go right now.”
