The Cat
When I was small I would always beg my parents for a cat. And always, they answered with a resounding "No". They suggested a dog, instead. They said that dogs knew how to "love", and cats are just "selfish, heartless beings." But I said no. I wanted a cat, and I would not settle for anything else.
But in all those years, I really didn't know why I wanted a cat. If people asked me why I chose cats over dogs, I would just simply answer, "I just like them."
Years and years past, and now I'm sixteen. I still haven't got a cat. No. But I have freedom now. At least way more than what I had when I was nine or ten. I had my friends, but mostly, at school I'm just an unoticed shadow. Slipping here and there, never really stepping into the light.
