The Terrible Truth
SPENSER P.O.V.
I walk into the living room, where Mercy is sitting. I look around, and then look at her. "Hey, babe, have you seen Lui and Dean? I need them to help me fix the truck." Mercy looks up, and then shakes her head. "Sorry, Spens. I haven't seen 'em." I start to pace. "What the hell? Why aren't they home yet? I hope nothing happened...." Just then, the door opens, and Lui comes staggering in, making his way to the chair then falling into it. "Lui!" I say, walking over to him. "Where have you been, little bro? And where's De-" I stop mid-sentence, only now seeing the blood covering Lui's body. A large smear of red covers his face, and blood splatter stains his clothes. He looks traumatized, and Im almost scared to ask why. "Lui? Are...are you hurt? Is that your blood?" I ask, and Mercy now gets up and comes over, intrigued. He raises his head slightly, and I can tell from his red eyes that he's been crying. "N-No.....Im not hurt.......But...But Dean, he........" And Lui starts to sniffle, and tears run down his face. Mercy reaches a hand up and wipes them away, giving Lui a hug. He embraces her tightly, his eyes squeezed shut. I turn away, not wanting to think about what must have happened, but the thought invades my mind. I spin back around to Lui. "Lui, what happened? Is Dean........" I let my voice trail off, not needing to finish that sentence. He looks up at me with his big, brown eyes. He nods, and I feel my throat and chest tighten, making it hard for me to breathe. I cant believe it. My older brother is gone forever. I drop to my knees, staring at the blood covering Lui. My eyes start to swim, then blur, then they go completely black. I fall back on the floor, and I can feel Mercy shaking me, calling my name, kissing me. I open my eyes, and pull her into my arms. I hold her close, not wanting to let her go. But I release the embrace, and I look up towards Lui. "So, what happened, Lui? Were you guys attacked? Who was it?" I ask him, and his look of sorrow turns into one of fear. "Spenser, it was him. It was Delirious. Spens, Jonathan betrayed us. He shot Dean. I watched as Dean bled to death. I was helpless." Lui starts to choke up as he says it. "I held Dean's hand as he died. I saw the light leave his eyes. And then Jonathan came down from where he was up on the fire escape when he shot Dean, and he started to mock me. He teased me, Spenser. He called me a little squeaker. Thats when I sort of flipped out. I attacked him, but he was way too strong for me. He punched me, and knocked me unconscious. I woke up about fifteen minutes later, and he was gone. But..." Lui stops and pulls something out of his pocket. "I found this pinned to Dean's jacket." He hands me a crumpled, bloodied piece of paper. I turn it around, and scrawled in messy handwriting is the warning;
"You're Next, Carnage. You're gonna die just like your pitiful brother Dean. I'll be seeing you soon. YOU are my next target, Spenser. And you're gonna be the most fun to kill. -J"
Shit. All I can think of is that I am now being targeted by H20 Delirious, and I've known Jonathan for a really long time. If he is coming after me, then I'm so screwed. Jonathan is the best assassin I know. I used to work with him. We used to do jobs together, missions. We'd work together to take out targets, and he was pretty fucking amazing at it. I could never compete with him. He would always get the first target, faster, smoother, and more violently than I ever could. Knowing him like that was great. Having a god damn kick ass assassin by my side was always great. But now, things have changed. It fucking feels a whole lot different now that I'm the one with the red dot on my forehead.
