Chapter 2
I woke the next day, it was just like any other day (other than the fact the hunger games have begun). I got up, put on some clothes and went into the kitchen to make my breakfast. "Did you have a nice sleep, Florence?" Asked my dad. "Mhm" I replied. I opened our pantry and found there was no more jelly to put on my toast. I thought for a substitute, and just decided to put butter on the toast. As soon as I had finished spreading the butter on my toast, there were three very loud knocks on our door. "I'll get it" I told my parents.
When I opened the door around 3-4 peacekeepers walked in. One of them was holding a folded piece of paper in one hand and what looked to be a grey cloth in the other. "Who here is Florence Leäugn" asked one. I raised my hand. My heart beating very fast. As scary as it was, I knew not to lie to a peacekeeper. "You are under arrest for speaking against the capitol and possibly starting a riot." I wondered how they knew. "Our daughter never did such a thing! You have no proof!" Shouted my mum. And then the peacekeeper with the cloth and paper set down the cloth. Then I knew it wasn't a cloth- it was Pebble. And he was dead.
The peacekeeper read the note outloud. It was my letter to the districts! And at the end after "sincerely", instead of saying anonymous, which is what I usually put, I had accidentally put my name and didn't realize. "There must be some mistake!" My mum shouted again. The peacekeeper handed the paper to her and she read the letter. I could tell in her expression I had very much disappointed her.
I let the peacekeepers cuff my hands behind my back and escort me out the doorway. As we were walking I thought of all the possible punishments that could happen to me. I could become an avox, could just get simply executed, whipped, and the list goes on. I wondered where we were going and we were heading to the area where the tributes would be prepared for the tribute parade. The tallest peacekeeper removed his helmet and said"By order of the head Gamemaker and President Snow, you shall be put into the 73rd Hunger Games, since as stated in your letter, you hate them so much" he sneered and walked away.
I was left in an area that was surrounded by curtains when a man walked in. I guess I didn't really need a prep crew because I was from the capitol and my skin and everything was fine. This man, I figured would be my stylist. He had dark hair, eyes and skin. He wore gold eyeliner and small hoop earrings.
"I'm assuming your my stylist?" I asked."Yes I am." He replied. "So, this is a never happened before occasion, a girl from the capitol being put into the Hunger Games. Do you mind me asking how this happend?" He asked. "I'd rather not talk about it" I replied. "Okay, that's fine, I'm Cinna by the way" he extended his hand for me to shake. "Florence" I said while shaking his hand. "Are you new? I've never seen you before." I told him. "I'm in training. Probably why they gave you me. You see, during the tribute parade, you wanna make a good first impression to get sponsors in the games. Since I'm in training they think I'm going to give you a bad first impression, but I have a few things up my sleeves." Cinna gave me a reassuring look and pulled out a beautiful navy blue dress. "Cinna, it's beautiful but I don't think this dress is going to get me sponsors and what if the game makers told them not to sponsor me" I said. "Just trust me."
I tried on the dress and it fit me very well. He did my hair into a tight bohemian crown and did gave me shiny blue eyeshadow and a bit of gold eyeliner. I was ready to go to my carriage and before I stepped in Cinna gave me a button and told me to press it when I was ready. I wasn't sure what this button would do, but I would decide to press it once I was outside. Then the carriages in front of me began moving. Once my carriage began to move and reached the outside, I waited about ten seconds before I had pressed the button. When I pressed the button, what seemed like a cape of water began to flow down my back. But it wasn't really wet, it seemed dry. I quickly looked down and expected to see my carriage beginning to fill up with the dry water, but to my surprise it wasn't. The water seemed to evaporate before it could get to the ground.
The carriage reached the stopping point and out walked President Snow. I didn't really pay attention to what he said. I was too lost in my thoughts. I only snapped out of it when the carriage started moving again. The carriage reached its original starting point and I got out. "Not bad" Cinna told me. "Now let's get you cleaned up"
A/N- ayo! I once again hope that the chapter wasn't too short for y'all. I had a little bit of trouble thinking of something interesting to do with the dress because I didn't want to steal the fire concept. Anyways have a wonderful day everyone!
