I come and join her, sitting on the opposite of her chair. She smiles at me and says,
"Where would you like to start?"
Just when I'm about to reply a big scrape is heard from outside of the Hover...
(I'm addicted to dis)
It's the sound of metal scraping against metal, an agonizing sound to ones ears. We sit in silence and we're waiting for something to happen. Annie looks like she could pass out any minute now and I'm not sure if I can fly a Hovercraft. We hear someone walking on the roof and the steps and slow and calculated. Annie gets up and runs to the cockpit like a little brunetteish redhead mouse.
I get up slowly and make my move toward the cockpit, making sure that I'm silent. It comes natural to me and I'm a bit surprised. It's like somebody thought me to tread silently. Pushing my thoughts away I advance at the same time as the thing on the roof.
Annie is pressing a couple buttons and turning on some switches. She's mumbling to herself over the roar of the engine. I take a seat next to her and watch her, not wanting to raise panic or confusion. She bites her lip and mutters about someone called Beetee. The thing on the roof starts banging on the metal right above our heads. It's causing a dent and it's getting larger by every second. Annie looks terror-stricken so I grab her hand and run to the door of the cockpit. I fling it open and the whole roof comes crashing down.
I don't stop running until I reach the door of the Hover. I pull down the shaft and the wind rushes into me, tangling my hair and whipping it all over my face. It's harsh and cold but somewhat refreshing. I take a deep breath and turn to see parachutes attached to the wall.
"Annie" I rip one parachute of the wall and get it trough her arms. "I'll meet you on the other side."
"I can't." She looks into my eyes with misery and panic."You're the Mockingjay. You could save Panem. I'm going to make sure that you do just that, even if I have to die for it to happen."
I grab a chute and I get it over my arms and take her hand just as a strange hybrid creature bursts into the room. It growls and advances on us getting ready to pounce. I jump without thinking, Annie's hand still entwined with mine.
The force of the gale (donut laugh) spins us in circles and my hair gets in my eyes. My hospital gown has ridden up to my knees and I wish I had the idea of changing into something warmer and suitable. The whether is getting warmer and I can see landscape bellow. Annie still hasn't stopped screaming since our fall. I squeeze her hand and I point to the red tubes that stick out of the bag. If we pull them it's likely that the chute will open up, if not we're already dead.
She looks at me and she's finally stopped screaming. I notice that her hair is like a crimson coffee stain against the blue sky. I seem to recognize her from somewhere as if she's a distant memory. Maybe we knew each other before?
I snap out of my thoughts as she catches the tube and she gestures for me to follow suit. We pull our tubes at the same time and for a moment nothing happens. The next thing I know is that right after a violent jerk of the chute opening up we're soaring higher into the sky. Our hands have separated and I see Annie's chute bellow mine. Trees of all shapes, kinds and sizes are at our feet as we slowly fall towards the ground onto the trees.
As we get closer to the ground I look for a tree to cushion myself from the fall. I have absolutely no idea about where I am but Annie seems to know. She's got a grin on her face, the type when you know something that other don't.
The tip of the tree touches my bare feet and the needles of it pierce my foot. I don't need to look down to know that it's a pine tree. Holding on to the tree as I come closer to the ground is quite hard. The needles and branches scratch me and whack me in my face, leaving bruises. My parachute gets stuck on one of the low branches and I dangle in the air.
Annie seems to have reached the earth and is taking huge breaths. A silhouette comes up to us both, wicked looking axes in both of the person's hands.
I recognise the person. It's Johanna Mason.
Happy Halloween 👻
I can't write that long so my new goal is writing shorter but more quicker updates will be coming.
