3rd place

Book Title: The Blood Tasks

Author: ariwilde

Scoresheets:

Book title/cover: 10/10 - Great cover! I think both the cover and title fit the genre quite well.

Blurb: 8.5/10 - While the blurb is short and works more like a logline, I think it does well to convey intrigue. However, it does seem a bit confusing because there seems to be information missing that would strengthen the description.

Plot development: 12/15 - The plot developed kind of slowly for my taste which was partly because each chapter is from a different POV so the reader has to get each piece from each character. While I did enjoy this, there was a lot of info-dumping throughout the chapters that paused the development of the plot and made it harder to follow. It also feels like something is missing at the beginning, but things do make more sense in the context of the multiple POVs. I also do not see a lot of setting in the first few chapters. I think the book would improve a lot with more inclusion of both setting and characters' thoughts.

Character development: 8/10 - I liked how each chapter was from a certain character's POV. The author does a good job to make each voice distinctive.

Grammar and punctuation: 4.5/5 - Overall, no major issues. Some sentences read a little awkwardly and there were a few places where punctuation was misused but nothing major. Great job!

Overall enjoyment: 18/20 - The author has created a very interesting plot. I do think there are areas for improvement as mentioned in the earlier part of my review and in addition, more descriptive scenes to capture the imagery of the action. I think it would also be more enjoyable if the blurb introduced the reader a little more to the story. As it stands right now, the blurb made it difficult to understand what entirely was happening in the book so it made it hard to engage fully with the chapters. Pretty enjoyable overall.

Total: 61/70

2nd place

Book Title: The Right to Die

Author: avadel

Scoresheet:

Book title/cover: 9/10 - I love the silhouettes on the cover! The small details are very fitting given elements described in the first chapter. I think the title works very well too.

Blurb: 10/10 - Blurb is well written and fits the title wonderfully. Definitely makes me want to read on.

Plot development: 14/15 - Good inclusion of worldbuilding as the plot develops. There is a fast pace at first which is fantastic but (at least for me) makes it a little challenging to grasp everything that is happening. But overall, the plot develops well.

Character development: 10/10 - Each character is unique and well-written. Characters develop well over the first 5 chapters.

Grammar and punctuation: 5/5 - Flawless. Sentences flow well and are easy to understand/read.

Overall enjoyment: 18/20 - I really enjoyed reading the first few chapters! The story is fantastic, well-written, and keeps the reader invested. The author has clearly put a lot of hard work and dedication into the plot and characters. Great job.

1st place

Book Title: The Elf Witch

Author: jacquelyngilmore

Scoresheets:

Book title/cover: 9/10 - The cover feels a bit busy but is beautiful nonetheless. The words are sort of smushed too close together for my taste at the bottom of the cover which I think is what takes away from the cover a bit. My personal recommendation would be to move the title up a little, but ultimately it is up to you! The design itself is beautiful and the title is very fitting. Great job!

Blurb: 10/10 - Okay I am obsessed with this blurb! Very well written with lots of intrigue. Fantastic job!

Plot development: 15/15 - Plot is engaging and easy to follow. Very well-developed and keeps the reader interested and wanting to know more! Fantastic job!

Character development: 10/10 - Very good character development throughout. We see and learn a lot from Imani and this really helps to tell the story and see her goals.

Grammar and punctuation: 5/5 - No grammar issues. Great job!

Overall enjoyment: 20/20 - I will 100% keep reading this book and future books by this author. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading just a few chapters and am so impressed with the storyline.

Total: 69/70
