Regretting a free party

Wakeup I heard my conscience shout, I ignored it.

WAKEUP IDIOT, he growled so loudly that I woke up startled.

I opened my eyes and looked around. It seemed I was in some kind of a dark alley.

Suddenly I felt my palm touching something metallic, I looked down to see a sword lying beside me a dark blue one with a forked end. the hilt was greyish with a silver crescent moon on the joint.

It was attached to my hands with a chain. I got up unsure of where I was. I knew that I was in the forest before I lost consciousness.

Near the altar,  the conscience added.

Yes, the altar I thought, I had seen a flash of it just before I had lost consciousness, I could vouch that it was not there all along, it was as if the altar became visible to me just as I was about to lose consciousness.

It's weird, let's get out of here.  My conscience said freaking out. I nodded and then walked out of the alley.

That's when I saw the cobbled stoned pavement, thatched houses and the town circle, people were milling around on streets buying wares, other people pulled wagons behind them.

That was when I lost it and slapped myself hard, thinking this is a dream.

Ouch, that might've hurt, as much as I would enjoy seeing you die. This is not the right time my conscience remarked.

"Are you kidding me, this doesn't look like my place, this looks like countryside in America" I shouted at him.

You may be right, still, I don't think its America, atleast not the America from our world my conscience said.

"What do you mean?" I asked slowly.

looks like we are in the past, or on some other planet, my conscience finally said.

"This seems like a joke to me," I said shaking my head.

Doesn't this looks pretty real to be some kind of joke he said making sense

"Let's ask these people what is this place," I said to myself as I started walking towards the man who was towing a wagon.

Tsk.. aren't you forgetting something.

"What!" I shouted annoyed.

You are carrying a sword by your side and though this is not our earth, I still don't see anyone there walking with weapons strapped beside them.

"What, do you propose should I do then"

I don't know, I am just telling you that walking to those people with a sword in hand doesn't looks like a good idea to me.

He did have a point there, what should I do then. I looked around to find something that can help conceal the sword. There, a discarded pile of cardboard boxes was stashed at the corner.

I went there and took a box. I quickly covered the sword by putting it in the box from below.and then closing the box. It looked like I was carrying a box. better.

I soon regretted doing that as that made my right hand ache just after fifteen minutes and also it didn't help with the balance. I nearly fell two times, just regaining my balance at the last minute.

I went to a stall, where the vendor was selling some grains.

"Excuse me, can I know what this place ,is" I asked just as I reached him.

The vendor eyed me suspiciously, for a minute "Why, where are you from" he asked scrunting his eyes.

"um-Dunfeild town " I answered hesitantly.

"Are you making fool of me" the vendor shouted and took out a stick.

"No,  wh-why would I do that" I protested but, the vendor didn't hear any of it, he swung it and it connected with my arm.

I didn't wait there any longer, I took running out of there as fast as I could, the vendor came after us shouting but, soon stoped and went back to his shop.

The other people who saw this looked at me suspiciously. I thought of getting out of there before anything bad could happen.

I turned and took a path that led to a quiet area, this part had shops, rather than the open stall.

I sighed rubbing my arm where I had taken the hit as I continued walking.

Can you get any dumber.

"Can we stop it please, I am not in the mood" I said warily.

No, even a child knows better than to go and directly ask about what place is this. He was bound to get suspicious.

"Do you have any ideas that you wish to tell me" I retorted dryly, no answer came "Dang you"

I thought of going to a shop, to ask for the information. Just then I saw a wagon outside a shop unloading boxes.

I decided to ask the wagon guy where am I. I quickly went there to the guy who was supervising the unloading.

"Hello, I wanted to know something"

"Sure, what do you want to ask" the man said in a deep voice.

"Er- well- does these boxes have ice- cream, I want to buy one and I can't find any" I asked nervously.

He roared laughing "You can find one, just go straight and take the second left" he said indicating with his finger as he calmed down.

"Thanks" I said and got out from there. I started walking the way the wagon guy had pointed to.

I passed the first left and moved ahead, the second left came and I was about to turn when I heard a call.

"Know your future young man, what destiny awaits you" the old lady on the corner called out. She looked like a tarot reader, a glass globe was there infront of her.

I went to her. "Welcome young man, I will tell you what the future had in store for you" she said extending her frail and wrinkled hand towards my hand, I pulled it back instinctively.

"I don't think I would like to know" I said and started walking.

"Wait, you think  I am lying. I can tell where you are from just by looking at you" she screeched throatily.

I stopped, her words piqued interest in me. I turned and went back.

"Then, tell me where I am from" I said boldly.

She looked at me before closing her eyes. She waved her hands in front of her and muttered something.

"You are from, Ader town aren't you" she suddenly opening her eyes wide, a smile spreading on her face.

"Nope, you are wrong" I simply said and started walking from there.

"No, wait I know you are from st.milt..... No- alright, I get it now you are from Stoix city" she blabbered trying to stop me.

I just walked away from there, not looking back at that old woman.

Other things were going in my mind now, the places that the old woman had said– Stoix city, st.milt and what was the last one Adet town. These name didn't sound like American countryside.

Maybe this is other planet, or could this be Lïones, I told you not watch so much of  seven deadly sins, now look what it has done.

"Will you shut up, I need some thinking space and I can't do that with your constant commentary" I said hotly.

Just then I heard a low growl, "Will you SHUT UP" I shouted.

It was your stomach not me, my conscience replied snidely.

I looked down as it let out a small growl. It has to happen after all, I hadn't eaten in the recess till now.

"Dang you" I said clutching my stomach.

I started walking, there didn't seem to be any shop around. I walked ahead and saw a shop, it looked like a restaurant. I quickly walked in.

It seemed very old fashioned, there was a huge table behind which was the chef. There were chairs along the long table. They all seemed to be made of wood.

There were few people there eating noodles and drinking something, which I could surely say was not juice or water.

I went to the last table in the corner and took my seat. I had to discard the box in order to sit. I did  that and the sword hung down from my right hand.

"What do you want?" the chef asked coming to me.

"Do you have ice-cream" I asked and he nodded, "I will take one then"

"Anything, else" he asked.

"No, thank you" I said and the chef went away, he came back with a plate of vanilla ice-cream.

He placed it on the table in front of me and went away to take other orders. I took the plate and spooned some ice-cream. I took a hesitant bite not sure what to expect. It tasted just normal so, I started eating and soon finished the whole plate.

I called the chief and asked for another plate of it
"Do you have another flavour?" I asked, he nodded so, I told him to bring that another flavour.

He brought it and I started eating it, this one was chocolate and it tasted good.

By the time I finished eating I had ordered five plates of ice-cream and that to all of them differently flavoured.

"That was good" I said having enjoyed the ice-cream, despite the fact that I have to use my left hand to eat as the sword was attached to my right hand.

The chef came and stood there, waiting for my next order.

"This was the last, how much for all this" I asked taking out my wallet from my bag.

"That would be, 250" he said.

I took out a note of 500 and gave it to him, he took it. He looked at it for a while as if examining it then pocketed it.

I waited for sometime to get the change but, he didn't move at all.

"Can I have my change" I said in an exasperated  voice.

"What change" he asked confused.

The others were looking at us now as the chef was standing with me and not tending to them.

"I gave you five hundred, so I should get two fifty back" I said.

"You just gave me this paper" he said taking out the note.

That's when I realized my mistake, how could've I expected the currency to work here, this wasn't Dunfield. Dang it.

Dork!

"I am sorry, I-I don't have any money to pay" I said slowly, my head down.

"What do you mean,  you don't have any money to pay. Why did you order the food then?" he shouted.

"I-I am so-sorry" I said scared now.

"Sorry won't do kid, maybe you could pay me by working here for me"

"I am sorry, please forgive me. I will pay you as soon as I can, believe me" I said desperately.

"I don't think so" the chief said and raised his hand to hit me.

"STOP IT!" someone shouted, just before the chef could hit me.
