Trapped
A/N- Danny Schwarz as Jacen on the side :) Hot damn.
Jacen looked at me, irritation clouding his features; his really good features. Imperfect, I thought as I squinted, but still really good.
Anyways.
Finally he said, "Are you just going to stare at me or are you going to get up?" I felt my cheeks grow warm in embarrassment and realization that I had yet to get off of him.
"I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to run into you, I just- I didn't see you," I said stuttered nervously while stumbling off of him and onto the sidewalk.
The look of boredom present all over his face had yet to disappear and was very intimidating with his stature. He dusted himself off while giving me a glare and muttered, "Obviously."
As I stood up, he shoved past me with a hard knick to the shoulder and walked into the school, almost causing me to fall over once again.
Glaring daggers, I muttered, "Jerk," as he disappeared into the building. I picked up my belongings that have been scattered across the ground at a leisurely pace since my tardiness has been inevitable for a while now.
When I got into the building, I went to my locker and got out my book for History, which I have first on Mondays. Even though I am already late, I don't want to have to explain myself to any teachers that pass me in the hallways on the way to class, so I made power walked to door 30A.
When I got there, I took a deep breath, and went in. Mr. Beatty stopped in the middle of his sentence and gave me a stern look, which instantly turned into one of bewilderment once he took in the new look I was rocking. I grimaced.
I didn't even think about cleaning myself up before rushing to the classroom. The other students snickered when I sent him a sheepish grin."Hey Mr. Beatty."
"Ms. Phelo? I'm... well, not exactly sure what to say. Your might want to go see the nurse-"
"NO!" Mr. Beatty looked at me with startled eyes.
"I mean, I was umm, well, I was-" I sighed, taking a deep breath as I tried to form a sensible sentence.
"I...there was this giant puddle, and some guy was like WET, and then there was grass which I'm mildly allergic to, no biggie I'm fine now despite my swelling eye, followed by a cat in a bush. So yeah," I murmured, shoulders slumping. " I'm fine though." I ended lamely.
The entire class looked on with amused faces along with Jacen Matthews, the guy I had just ended up on top of. And he was sitting in my spot with a half-smirk on his face. What is up with the nerve of this guy? I thought back for a second.
And since when had he even been in this class?
"The hobo ran into me outside and was too busy ogling to get in here on time. Shame on you Phelo," Jacen mockingly adds. I sent him a glare in return. He's acting like I purposely bumped into him, but it was clearly an accident.
"Well then, Zaph, if you're sure," he gestured warily to the back of the room. "Please take your seat."
"I would love to take my seat," I muttered through my teeth as I walked back to the only available seat, which was right in front of Jacen. "Too bad it was stolen by a fat jerk."
"Ooh, that was a good one. What are you, five?" Jacen whispered in my ear.
"What are you, five?" I mimicked as I slouched down in the seat.
I pulled out my notebook as Mr. Beatty continued on with the lesson. I looked over at Joney to see her looking back at me.
"What?"
She gives me an annoyed look and quickly glances behind me before her eyes focus on me again.
"You look awful."
Gee thanks bestie. I rolled my eyes, not in the mood for anymore of this silent conversation. I already knew I looked awful without the need for Miss Mirror Mirror on the Wall over there. The class was long and dull, and honestly was too captivated in my swollen eyeball to focus on anything historical.
When the bell finally rang, I packed up my stuff and walked over to her. I tried not to notice the way people avoided me like a plague as I made my way to Joney.
"I can't believe you were actually late and with Jacen Matthews of all people. The Jacen Matthews. Also don't worry about looking that ugly all day, I have some spare clothes," she babbles.
"Oh my gosh," I squealed, pretending to fangirl with her. "Like, like the Jacen Matthews?" I said with a giant grin. She joined me and squeezed my arm even tighter.
"I don't care," I said dully, dropping my act.
She pouted and punched me lightly on the arm. "Oh whatever. You are acting like you are completely enamored but you are." She thought for a moment. "The only downside is that he is so damn quiet. I like my men chatty." Her eyes glazed over as she was no doubt picturing her dream guy. I rolled my eyes at her nonsense.
"I hate to put a halt to this conversation," I said, the sarcasm leaking from my voice. "But I gotta get to class; Fitz will kill me if I'm late. See you at lunch?" I asked over my shoulder while walking away from her.
"Who else would I sit with, you ugly hobo?" she yelled down the hallway, turning the corner. I continued walking, dismissing the strange looks from my peers. I attempted to walk with confidence, trying to show them I was proud of the grass in my hair and the now caking mud on my body.
Yeah I know I'm beautiful, bitches.

The rest of the day was a blur of nothing, seeing as nothing special happened, and luckily nothing bad. I had taken a shower and changed in the girl's locker room, finally feeling somewhat decent right before lunch. Anything was better than the way I looked this morning, so I was grateful for Joney's spare clothes.
After school I went to some of my teachers asking for any extra credit possible. Junior year was the time to start the entire process of looking for colleges, and if I was going to end up where I wanted, I was determined to be at the best place grade-wise I knew I could be. Not mention, the examinations we had taken last week were pretty important, and just in case I didn't do the best on those, I wanted to maintain my steady rate of decent grades.
After I met with my teachers, I went to the library to find some books that I needed for a project going on in the next few weeks, and also just some books to enjoy. I ended up dozing off in the middle of an epic battle between angels and these other creatures over a girl. If only that was my life. When I woke up and glanced at my clock, it was six forty-five, and the sun was already halfway through its natural process.
"You've got to be kidding me," I muttered to myself packing all my books up quickly, and making my way out of the giant library.
I noticed the halls were deserted and the lights were out once I exited the book haven, giving the school an eerie look.
"There's nothing to be afraid of," I kept repeating to myself as I quickened my pace to the doors leading out of the building. I tried to convince myself that I was just being silly, but watching several episodes of Supernatural tends to make a person paranoid at one point or another. I think constantly glancing over my shoulder was an indication of that.
"Locked," I breathed in disbelief and my eyes widened as I tried pull the main school door open without a single budge. I yanked several more times, but it still refused to give. I heard the light jingle of chains on the other side, proving that the doors weren't going to open anytime soon unless I found the owner of the keys.
Welp.
It seemed as if was stuck in my school with no way out until morning, unless I figured something out. Irritated but determined, I walked off to at least try another door. Why the hell didn't the dang librarian check the whole freakin' library before leaving?
I should sue.
As I made my way to another door, I started to pick up on a faint conversation, which made me pause. I thought I was the only one still in the school, and unsurprisingly, hearing these unfamiliar voices didn't give me much comfort.
"Find her..."
Those words were all I heard, but that was enough to send my heart into a frenzy. Were they talking about me? I scoffed at myself. Of course they weren't talking about me. Why would they be? I wanted to shoot that nagging feeling in my brain that told me not to completely rule myself out.
I sniffed. Something smelled fishy here, and it wasn't the month old cafeteria food they served us.
I hid myself behind the trophy case that was in front of me. Unfortunately my school doesn't win very often so it was mostly transparent, meaning that if they were looking for me, they could definitely see me, but it was all I had at the moment.
I could attempt to ninja roll over to the trash can across the hall, but I already saw myself epically failing, so I crossed that off of my list. I peeked over the side of the trophy case, to see a guy who looked about my age, talking to about five other bulky men.
I gulped. I could tell their favorite hobby was going to the gym.
What were they doing here? And if they were after me, which I prayed to God that they weren't, what did I have that they wanted?
"Its okay Zaph," I pep talked myself quietly. "You are literally a nobody. They don't want you," I whispered cheerfully, rocking on my heels in nervousness.
I looked past them to see a window that had been broken. If I had to guess, it was probably because of the brick lying on the floor in front of it. That confirmed that these guys weren't locked in like me; they had forced their way in. However, the scary realization didn't keep me from noticing that this might be my only way out.
"I would have to walk right past them to get out of here," I muttered to myself as I looked on at the scene before me trying to conjure up a plan. I chewed on my nail out of habit as I continued to look on.
"Holy mother," I gasped at the sudden scene, covering my mouth with my hand. I made sure to remain hidden.
Oh my God I'm going to die.
The guy that was talking, probably the leader, pulled out a knife from his back pocket, snapping it open with the flick of his wrist. The blade looked lethal, and I would not want to be on the receiving end of it.
Even if they weren't after me and they saw me, they probably wouldn't be inviting me over to have tea. They might just kill me off so that they don't have to deal with any witnesses. I didn't want to be a victim!
There was so much I had left to do in life. I still have a full packet of Ramen at my house. Who was going to finish that if I wasn't there?
I shook my head, because I was in a horror movie, except every emotion pulsating through my body was very real. I started hyperventilating as quietly as possible, unable to control the gasps leaving my mouth, and tried to get up as soundlessly as I could, when the worst thing that could have possibly happened. The one I assumed was the leader pulled out his phone, and after dialing someone, put it up to his ear.
"Hey you your phone is ringing! Pick it up 'cuz now we're singing, who, who is it?! Who who, who is it?!"
I looked down in horror as my phone went off on the loudest volume possible. I fumbled through my bag to try to shut it up, but it was too late. My cover had been blown by a tacky ringtone. How is everyone getting my phone number?
I. Should. Sue.
As the sound resonated through the entire hallway, six heads snapped up and in my direction. I straightened myself to full height, took a deep breath, and came from behind the trophy case. It's not like it mattered anyway, because my inevitable fate had already been seal the moment I woke up this morning. I was going to die, and in my crappy school of all places?
I was so done with this week.
I waved timidly at them. "Umm haha well I'm just gonna-" was all I could manage to them before my legs took off in the other direction. I'm not sure why I even stopped to talk.
I rounded the corner at the end of the hall when I heard the guy call out, "This place only has so many places to hide Zaph! We'll find you."
Well, shit.
Thanks for reading! Feel free to give me feedback :) I am always looking to improve.
