Chapter IV: Rage Monster

WARNING: FITZPHIE FLUFF AHEAD! READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Fitzypoo POV- Third Person

~Time Skippy to two hours later~

The boys were in the living room, eating mallowmelt and waiting for the girls to show up. Seriously, how long did it take to slap on some makeup? Fitz thought irritably. I'm surprised Sophie hasn't come barreling down the stairs already, sniffing out the mallowmelt like a bloodhound...

He smiled fondly, imagining just how amazing she would look. Her soft strawberry blonde hair...and unique periwinkle-

No, Sophie had brown eyes! Brown! Why in the seven species did he keep thinking about Dex! It was a one time thing! A simple misunderstanding! Even if...for a second...it had been as if Dex had been about-

No, he was probably reading him wrong. Their faces were only inches apart, after all. Just another couple of inches closer and-

Fitz rolled his eyes. He was being ridiculous. Stupid overreacting imagination, he thought. It would've been totally gross anyways. Now Sophie's lips...

Keefe polished off his slice and groaned, leaning back and putting his arms behind his head. "Ok, so while we're all here, I have a question for Fitz and Dex."

Dex and Fitz immediately straightened, looking anywhere but each other.

"Just a fall-"

"It wasn't anything-"

"I tripped on him-"

"Nothing happened, ok Keefe! Nothing! Just lay it off!" Fitz nearly shouted, his face turning red with what most definitely not a blush. In the corner of his eye, he could see Dex looking as if he had been sucker punched in the stomach.

Fitz bit his lip in embarrassment, realizing that he had just overreacted and made it glaringly obvious just how much the Incident (yes, that was the name for it now) had unnerved him.

He could hear Tam snickering in the background. If he looked up at Keefe, he would probably be smirking as well. Why in Eternalia was everyone making such a big deal out of this? It was one incident, for crying out loud!

And Dex still looked as if his pet tomple had just died.

It was ridiculous. Out of all the things everyone could be gossiping about at this 'sleepover' it had to be him and Dex of all people. Dex. Why him?! Now some nice gossip about him and Sophie wouldn't have been unwelcome...why couldn't Sophie be the one about to kiss him?

You are a Vacker, Fitz reminded himself firmly. And Vackers do not get flustered by little incidents. Especially not while the Council is out scouting for potential Emissaries in the Elite levels! Or when I'm getting my Matchmaker's scroll in a couple of months! You need to put this behind you, Fitz. Need to.

He changed the subject abruptly, skipping over an unfamiliar pang in his heart. "So, when do you think the girls are coming-"

The girls finally came down the stairs. And they looked gorgeous.

*Dramatic movie slow motion*

His sister looked stunning as always, dressed in a shimmering teal tunic that was decorated with a million little flecks of gold, making the light flash off it with every step. Her hair, for once, wasn't clipped back, instead tumbling down nearly to her waist. And -Fitz's eyes widened- she had dyed the ends a spiraling dark ombre rainbow. Dyed them!

In fact, all four of the girls had dyed their hair and worn it down. Marella, dressed in a short red ombre tunic, had dyed her hair completely, going from a dark, vibrant red to swirling gold and silver ends. Linh, her arm looped around Marella's, obviously already had her ends dyed silver, but she'd also added some platinum white to the tips and several purplish-silver highlights, which, paired with her satin baby blue tunic, gave her an ethereal yet strangely fierce look.

And then there was Sophie. Sophie, Sophie, Sophie. Fitz's breath caught in his throat. And he fell in love with her all over again.

She wore, for once, not a red outfit like the one she'd had on before (though that had been amazing,) but instead a dark purple tunic with a golden sash and tiny little golden crown designs. That, along with her teal-tipped (he prayed it was in honor of him) blonde hair, should've clashed horribly, but instead, it just worked.

She was, hands down, the most beautiful thing he'd ever seen. And he lived with Biana and Della.

You look gorgeous. He transmitted to Sophie, causing her to pause halfway down the steps and grin bashfully at him. Her cheeks blazed. Thank you, she told him, y-you also look amazing...

Now it was Fitz's turn to smile. Thank you as well. Pray tell me, princess, will we spend the entire night in this formal manner?

Sophie ducked her head down, blushing, if possible, even more. N-no. Sorry, Fitz, I ju-

Her foot slipped more than Fitz thought was possible, causing her to fly high in the air. "AHHHH!" She shrieked, flailing her arms wildly. He leapt to his feet, knowing exactly what to do after years and years of practice. He held his hands out and simply scooped her out of the air, cutting off her screaming abruptly.

"Hey." Fitz said softly, staring into her wide eyes as he cradled her in his arms.

(Someone help, I can't write Fitzphie fluff for so long...I'm *this* close to throwing up...C'mon Keefe! Biana! Dex! Someone!)

"H-h-hi." Sophie squeaked. Right on cue, her cheeks light up like fireworks. Fitz smiled. "Are you o-"

Keefe started fake-retching behind them. "Eugh- Fitzphie Overload Alert! If the entire sleepover is like this...I'm gonna be spending the night in the bathroom! Eugh- Euch-" He began retching dramatically again, effectively ending the 'moment' they were having. At least...I hope it was a moment. Fitz thought anxiously.

At least Sophie wasn't hur- Wait. Fitz's thoughts darkened as he mentally replayed the moment Sophie slipped. She wasn't even moving...!

Fitz spun in a 180, Sophie still in his arms. He glared at Keefe, who was still fake-retching. "Keefe." He growled. "How could you do that! You could've hurt her!" He squeezed Sophie protectively. "Why in Eternalia would you do such a thing! I can't believe you!" His rage mounted higher- and higher- until-

"Ow, Fitz! You're hurting me!" Sophie cried, scrambling out of his too-tight grip and falling onto the sofa. He blinked, staring down at Sophie as she rubbed her arms and legs in pain. Oops. "Sophie, are you ok?" Biana exclaimed, running down the stairs worriedly. "Biana!" Fitz shouted. "Back off! Sophie's fine!"

He clenched his fists, not waiting for an answer before swinging his attention back to Keefe. Keefe held his hands up defensively and looked at Fitz as if he was a raging, wild animal. "Fitz, calm down, ok? I don't even know what you're talking about, bro!"

Fitz took a threatening step towards Keefe, but in a flash, Tam was there, staring him down with double the intensity. "I used telekinesis to make Sophie slip. You two were staring at each other for at least five minutes-" Was it really that long? Fitz wondered. "-and I wanted to break it up. Plus, I knew you would catch her. So back off from Keefe and calm. Down."

Fitz took a bewildered step back, all anger forgotten. Tam was protecting Keefe? What in Eternalia? Was he telling the truth?

For a second everyone simply stared at Tam, who stood there awkwardly, as if he, too, was surprised by what he'd just done. He cursed, tugging on his bangs fiercely, then ran out of the room as if a pyrokinetic was chasing him.
