Part one ❄️ Clues

"Ice you must fight. Whoever is threatening the village clearly had a large force behind it, you must do your part to to protect the village." Ursaring snarled at the Beartic, his scared eye gleamed with menace.

Ice wrinkled his nose in disgust. "No, I made a promise to Minny and I intend on keeping it. Whoever this is you can deal with them without me. My days of killing are gone." He said with a sharp shake of his head.

"It's not killing if it's out of defence." The village leader argued, giving Ice a threatening growl.

Again Ice shook his head. "Killing is killing. No matter what reason." Minny's wise words ran through his head. "No one should be forced to kill and for that reason I won't."

Ursaring snarled at Ice but saw that he wouldn't be getting anywhere with this argument, like so many others. The bear Pokémon snarled at Ice but was met but the Beartic's unmoved gaze. Every day for the past week he climbed up to Ice's home, trying to convince the Beartic to fight the treat of war that cast a shadow over the forest inhabitants. But Ice refused each an every time, denying any wish for involvement in returning to his old ways. His final promise to his old friend was more important to him now that she was gone then anything else and he refused to betray her trust by honouring his word.

"You will fight, one way or another." The Normal type Hibernator Pokémon growled as he turned to leave. "One thing you should know about me Beartic, I always find a way to get what I want." With that, he was gone, swallowed up by the icy summers wind that swirled around the forest.

It was only once Ursaring's footsteps faded completely that Ice left his cave, wandering aimlessly through the forest surrounding his home. The Beartic closed his eyes and let the freezing wind blow over his fur. Three years it had been since he had lost Minny and he was missing her dearly. More than anything he wanted her back by his side, he missed Minny's childish, polite attitude she faced the world with. He missed her mumbling in the sleep and waking to find her poking around the cave for something of interest or staring intently at the fire.

He could never really accept that she was gone, vanished without a trace.

Ice could remember almost every day she spent with him, from the day he first met her, the day he spared the first of his sacrifices in return for her friendship. At first the little Buneary was terrified of him, jumping whenever he raised his voice, even when it wasn't directed at her, or squealing in fright whenever she did something that she thought would upset him. Often she would just sit by the fire, trying to stay out of his way. At first she'd dreaded every moment she had to spend with Ice but the longer she stayed in Ice's company, the more she began to like him. She cracked the layers of stone that encased his heart, the first to see the softer side of the widely fear Beartic.

She grew comfortable with him. She'd learnt that under Ice's cold exterior was a kind and gentle Pokemon... Well kind of... He had still eaten countless sacrifices left outside his cave as Minny once had been. But when he found her, tied helplessly to the rock as countless others had, he just couldn't bring himself to take this ones life. He had easily recognised the little Buneary as the one her parents fought so hard to save, the one he'd spared as a youngling after her parents futile effort to protect her and when he saw her for the second time, left as a sacrifice of the Beartic's horrid deal, Ice simply couldn't take her life as he'd done so many times before. That was the day his life change drastically for the better, she was the greatest joy his life had ever had to offer but the Drapion had to ruin it.

Ice had almost ripped him limb from limb when Drapion took Minny's sight, the acidity in his claws burning her eyes with a permanent scar that would never cease to remind the young Pokémon of the day he'd attacked her. She was to young to endure that fate, a fate that reminded the young Pokémon of the worthless she felt everyday of her life. After he disappearance, the only thing that stopped Ice from killing Drapion himself that day was the single promise he had made to Minny. The promise he had to never kill again. No one had even heard of the Scorpion Pokémon since Ice had forced his to leave years ago, good riddance, was all Ice really thought on the topic.

Opening his eyes, Ice continued his walk up hill, his large paws crunching in the freshly fallen snow. Things would never be the same without Minny. It was to quiet around Ice, he felt empty. Like the warmth he felt inside his heart had evaporated with the disappearance of his only friend.

A bitter chill swept through the forest, bringing Ice back to the cold reality. The snowy forest was always in winter. All the Pokemon that lived in or around it were suited for the cold environment. Many of the young Pokemon, including Minny once, would play outside until there parents called them in. Everywhere you turned was a snow sculpture of some Pokemon or object. The trees were filled with icicles and lakes often froze over. Most Pokemon had a constant fire lit in doors. But others didn't seem to care much. Snow was snow, cold was cold. It didn't matter to them. But for three years of enduring pure cold, Ice doubt any Pokémon could make it, let alone a baby Pokémon.

The worn down path that Ice walked on was an often used trail, leading from his home through the woods. Trees had formed and arch like tunnel over head, light filtered through the cracks in the snow canopy above leaving dancing rays of sun along the path of frozen water. It looked like something from a dream or fairy tail but not all saw it like that. For Ice it was the best path to take to reach Minny's clearing in which her last wish sat.

At last Ice reached Minny's clearing, as it had been given by the Pokémon of the village, where Minny's stone stood proud and tall. He often came and spent hours staring at the stone that held Minny's final words. Everyday Ice would clear the snow that had fallen on top and pay his respects to his once only friend. These days many Pokémon had accepted him into the village but not all the Pokémon saw good of that, holding harsh grudges against him, but he understood and never held that against those few bitter Pokémon. Ice had killed so many Pokémon he couldn't even number them all. So naturally, there would be Pokémon who's family had been taken, lives lost to the Beartic, braking family and friends apart.

When Ice entered the clearing he found someone already there, beating him to his regular job of cleaning Minny's wish. The bubbly Azumarill dusted the last of the snow before she turned to see Ice, smiling brightly at the friend of her friend who she now saw as her own friend.

"Good morning Ice." Bubble giggled merrily.

After Minny had gone blind Bubble once more entered her life as a friend, something that had brightened up the life of the little Buneary and made her extremely happy, even in her world of darkness. Minny grew up not having any friends for most her life, until Ice had spared her and become one of the first she'd had in a very long time. Bubble would often make up games that Minny could play without using eyesight, but her other senses instead and while the games brought a certain joy into her life, it had been extremely difficult for Minny to over come the depression that had locked itself to her heart.

Ice nodded his greeting to the Azumarill but didn't say anything.

"I was... er... just going." Bubble said awkwardly, knowing Ice preferred to be alone when in the clearing.

"No, feel free to stay if you would like." Ice replied dully, his onyx eyes holding no signs of annoyance at the presence of the Water-Fairy type Pokémon.

"It's fine. I have a little Azuril back home to take care of anyway. I'll see you later?"

Ice just nodded as the Aquarabbit Pokémon left. He walked up to the stone slab and ran his paw over the flower next to Minny's name. A Pecha berry bloom, her favourite type of berry.

"Why'd you leave Minny? I loved you so much." Ice whispered, closing his eyes a moment before opening them. He read the words Minny had poured her heart and soul into, her final words and final wish.

Do not frown because you can't see me,
Smile, for I can now see you.

Live in peace with one another,
Live in hope for a brighter future.

Be happy for the sun will rise,
Be happy for the moon will glow.

Be sad for the fallen,
Be sad for gone.

Be truthful to your feelings,
Be truthful to yourself.

Be glad for the world around you,
And the colour that it has shared.

Be thankful for your friends,
Be thankful for your family.

Take none of these for granted,
Take none of these to shame.

Because one day they may all go,
One day you may wish to see one more shade of colour.
To see one more flower grow.

One day you may find yourself,
Completely and utterly alone.

And even though I've left you,
I will never be quite far away.

Do not be sad that I am gone,
Be happy that I have lived.
~Minny 🌸

Her final words forever to be held in the rock. Her story had become a commonly told one over the three years since the events happened, of course many if the details were changed so it included some morel for younger Pokémon. Many of the young ones knew Ice only as the Beartic from their story, while many of the parents saw him as nothing more than a cold blooded killer. Even though it had been more than three years since he last took a life, a few months before Minny disappearance. Drapion had taken her, using her as a weapon to keep him away from the village.

Ice shook his head lightly, thoughts of Minny filling his head.

Minny had only wished for others joy. Even when she could no longer find the joy in her world made from dark, she had lost sight of any light in the darkness the plagued the baby Pokémon's mind. Ice had wished everyday since that he would of been able to help her find it, the help the blind little Buneary see more than darkness. He regretted not being able to see her true feelings that she masked so well. When she smiled he thought it was real when she cried he thought it was just from the dark. He never had a chance to brighten her life as she did his and more than anything he wanted that chance back, but now it was to late.

Ice turned around and walked further up the mountain, not really caring where he was going or where he would end up. He stopped at the river, watching the calm water run over the smooth pebbles. The river was most shallow at this point, a little dam of leaves and twigs had formed since they couldn't make it over a lump in the riverbed until the river raised when it warmed up and the snow at the top of the mountain would melt enough to fill the river.

Something among the fallen foliage caught his eye, as if calling to him. A small but thick stick stuck in the river bed, jutting out as if wanting to be found, just like any other on its own it was absolutely nothing more than a fallen twig but something attached to it caught his eye. He delicately plucked the sick from its resting place, making sure the whatever was attached stayed attacked, not to be lost in the fallen leaves that stuck to the bottom of the river.

The twig was nothing more then it appeared, a stick that had fallen from further up the mountain, Cherri Berry wood by the looks of its lighter colour. A frown pulled at his lips as he rolled it over, seeing what had caught his eye, a gleam of purple. He cautiously unwound the string that had been ever so carefully tied to the stick and had a closer look. The purple orb, pure amethyst, hung from a simple white string. Smooth and polished, Ice recognised it immediately. The most precious position of Minny, the orb that was her mothers, passed down through the generations of her family for longer then she even knew. She never took the necklace off, ever. He remembered sometimes waking to find Minny hugging it tightly while mumbling in her sleep about things he couldn't hear or understand. The necklace had meant everything to his friend. She'd brought it with her when she's been left tied to the rock meant to hold the monthly sacrifices for Ice, thinking that her family generation would end with her.

What was the necklace doing so far upstream from the village? It had gone missing the same day Minny had and like Minny, it was never found. Minny would never so careless as to let the necklace fall off, even if she couldn't see it and the jewel had been tied to the stick, intentionally. It was to perfect to just have been caught on a stick naturally, besides it was to far upstream from his cave.

Ice inspected the stick again, finding something he'd missed as he did. A small, messy message carved into the wood. Just one word that made Ice's heart plunge to the bottom of his gut. One word that was almost to messy to be a word but still read out its message to whoever was to read it, Help
