" And sitting amongst the hectic waves crashing against her is Rilee. She's my cousin on my father's side — though I only know bits and pieces about her now. Her dad never liked mine much and that dislike extended to me. So now my cousin is closer to stranger than friend even though her late mother is my aunt, and a childhood of memories hung between us like thick smoke. A shared childhood only got you so far and she had been forbidden to see me since she was thirteen, our relationship had evaporated after Aunt Cindy got sick.

Despite that, two months before the school year was going to end, Rilee sought me out with a breathing contraption strapped to her waist and tubes in her nose. Her father's rules seemed to be less of an interest to her with the diagnosis of not living past 35.

She asked me to help her live the life she had been missing in the face of her mother's cancer. So, with the help of my ingenious mind (and a bit of help from the pogues) she began to slum it like the rest of us.

A bucket list dubbed 'Rilee's last laugh' was drawn up between all of us. All of the things she hadn't done in the almost seventeen years of life she began to do in rapid succession. A sarcastic and reclusive girl bloomed into a reckless pogue.

There was one thing on that list that none of us had ever been able to pull an answer on and that was the last bullet point.

• tell that one boy I like him.

Nobody knew who it was taking about. None of us could pry the answer from her. When she wasn't sucking air out of her tubes she was out swimming, we never got a chance to discover who the boy was.

but at least we were able to take her on a treasure hunt. Maybe we should have tried for one less deadly, and more sick girl friendly. But hey, we're pogues and this is the outer banks.

whelp, after seeing the s4 finale i had ideas. I have this and two other fics in my drafts (from s1 idea to s2 idea) and i might work on the others. Dunno yet.

Rilee is a sick bby who's gonna do what she can while she can. John b and JJ are her biggest supporters (pope and kie take care of her like parents, John b and j do the reckless shit.) Anyways, Rilee, Iveline, and Rhiannon are all going to be part of a series (thinkin of calling it The Breath of Life series — cuz yk... Rilee's lungs are going to collapse someday and her heart will stop and— ill stop there. hehe) and each will have their own books spanning from s1. S5 will mostly be writing in Iveline's perspective ! Anyways... enjoy the bucket list!
