Y/N's P.O.V
Pain swept through my body, some areas numb and some experiencing shots of white-hot pain as I slowly started to come back to consciousness. Cries and whimpers left my lips, everything in me screaming at me to open my eyes, but my body also feeling far too weak to do the simple action. I gulped harshly in a desperate attempt to get any form of moisture into my mouth, but soon found that my throat was just as dry as swallowing only made the feeling worse.
"Mr Stark, she's awake." I heard someone say, making my heart jump in my chest.
"Mr Stark-what?" I croaked.
"Hey, it's alright, you're safe, Y/N." The familiar voice spoke as a hand got placed on my shoulder. I forced my eyes open slightly, them immediately shutting again as they were met with a harsh luminescent light. Come on, Y/N, you've got to open your eyes, I thought to myself as I forced them back open again. I blinked, my eyes soon adjusting to the light and allowing me to look around me as I fully woke up. My eyes widened, a choke leaving my lips and fear filling my head as I seemed to be in a medical suite. Though it looked far too nice to be in the hospital.
"What-where am I-what happened, where's Peter?" I gulped.
"Hey, it's okay, take it easy." I looked up, my eyes widening further as Tony was by my side, his hand being the one on my shoulder. I looked desperately around the room again, tears starting to leave my eyes as I couldn't see Peter. I couldn't see him anywhere.
"Is he dead, did Peter die in the explosion?" I choked as I looked back up at my boyfriend's old mentor.
"He's okay, Y/N, he's alive and is okay, you were the one who was almost killed. He's alright, but you're not going to like the reason for him not being here." He warned. I looked at him, the man sighing as he returned the glance. My eyes widened, my gaze wavering and my heart plummeting to my feet as it all clicked.
"Oh my god. He went after The Vulture, didn't he? He went alone, didn't he?" I cried and shook my head, making Tony sigh again.
"I'm sorry, Y/N, yes, he did. But he's going to be okay. He's fought this asshole before, and he won. And he's stronger now, he's older, he's grown as a person." He nodded.
"He's also so hellbent on protecting me that he'll do stupid shit, like go after that guy alone! I need to help him." I shook my head, making Tony's eyes widen as I started to pull at the countless wires that were attaching me to the surrounding machines.
"Woah, stop, are you crazy?! Peter is superhuman, you are just human, you will die if you try to stop this guy, this isn't a fucking joke, Y/N." He scoffed as he pulled my hands away from the wires.
"I don't care if I die, as long as Peter lives, and he might not if he goes up against that guy again."
"Y/N, listen to me."
"I'm sorry, Tony, but I need to do this, I need to help-."
"For the love of fucking god, just stop." He cut me off as he sat down on the bed next to my body and grabbed my biceps. I gulped harshly and looked at him, tears pricking my eyes as he stared at me. He sighed and looked down for a second before returning his gaze to me.
"I'm sorry for snapping, I shouldn't have talked to you like that. But before he left, Peter made me promise to look after you. He made me promise that no matter what happened to him, you'd be okay, and that I'd make sure of that. I promised him that, Y/N, and whether you like it or not, looking after you includes making sure that you don't go after him. Even if that means that I have to handcuff you to the bed. I will do it if it means protecting you for Peter." He nodded. I choked and shook my head, tears running down my face as I stared at the man.
"I'm sorry, Tony, but my promise to him is more important, more essential than your promise to him. I promised him long ago that he'd never be alone again. That he'd never feel alone, or neglected, or unloved again. I promised that I'd stay by his side through everything that we were to go through together. I will never forgive myself if he dies and I didn't fulfill that promise. He's alone right now, Tony, he's alone, he's hurt, and I'm sure that he's absolutely fucking terrified. And that's okay, but fuck, he must be scared. So am I. I'm terrified that at any point, police will walk through that door and tell you that they found Spider-Man's body. I'm terrified that he's dying right now, and his last thought is that I wasn't there with him. Tony, I'm under no illusion that I'm not anything fucking special. I know that I'm as boring, as ordinary, as tragically fucking un-unique as they come. But the one thing that's not boring, ordinary or un-unique about me is my love for Peter. I know that I'm normal and that it's fucking stupid for me to want to go out and help him to fight a literal fucking supervillain. But I need to do this. I need to fucking help him." I sobbed and shook my head, tears streaming down my face as I talked. Tony returned my gaze, the man's eyes glazing over at my words as he looked at me. He sighed and looked down, making me gulp harshly as I tried to figure out what he'd say.
"This is such a bad idea-fine. Fucking fine. But Jesus Christ, you will die if you go to fight him with no weapons, so come on. I've got something to show you." He nodded as he stood from the bed. My eyes wavered, a choke of relief leaving my lips as I quickly disconnected the tubes and wires from my arms before standing up and following him.
Tony and I stood in the elevator, the glass box taking us down as we stood in it.
"Where are you taking me, Mr Stark?" I asked.
"You'll see." He nodded, making me sigh and look at the man. The elevator stopped, making me look ahead again as the doors opened. As soon as I saw it, my eyes widened.
"Woah." I whispered, my mouth falling open as I stepped out of the elevator and into what appeared to be a very high-tech basement...with the walls coated in Iron-Man suits.
"Wow. This is fucking awesome." I scoffed and shook my head, my feet wandering around the room as I stared at the lit-up alcoves in the wall that housed the dozens of high-tech and impressive suits.
"I won't lie to you, kid, most of them are only really for display, I only use about three of them. Which is why I'm going to give you one to help Peter fight The Vulture with." He admitted. My eyes widened at his words as I looked at him.
"What?! You're giving me an Iron-Man suit?" I scoffed.
"To borrow, yes. Fuck no am I gifting a twenty-two-year-old journalist a multi-billion dollar technological suit, even if she is the girlfriend of a boy who's basically my son." He teased.
"That's fair." I chuckled and nodded as I looked at them.
"How about this one?" I turned around, my eyes widening slightly as I saw the suit that Tony was talking about.
"Oh my god." I mumbled, my eyes flicking over the beautiful black and silver colours of the suit as I walked towards it.
"This is my newest one. Has all the old bells and whistles, has got my AI called FRIDAY built in, everything that you need. I pick this one because it's got more modern medical scanning and protection, and since you're still injured, you need all of the medical help that you can get. You'll get that with this." He nodded. I scoffed and shook my head, my mind in awe of the amazing suit as I raised my hand and pressed it against the breastplate of it.
"That works. Fuck, that's plenty for me." I chuckled and shook my head again.
"I thought that it would be. I'm assuming that you have no clue how to work these, so I'll go over the basics. Point your open palm at whatever you want to shoot at, the suit will do the rest. Anything else that you need, just tell FRIDAY and she'll do it for you. You got it?" He checked. I gulped and nodded, the magnitude of what I was trying to do suddenly hitting me as my heart leapt in nervousness. I could really die in what I was about to do. My life could end tonight. But I was doing it for Peter. And that alone made all of it worth it.
"Yup. Let's do this." I nodded.
"Alright, then." Tony returned, making me gulp as the suit opened up. I climbed into it, my eyes flicking around the even more impressive inside of the build as the body closed around me but the head stayed open. I looked at Tony, tears pricking my eyes as my heart raced in my chest.
"Go be a hero with Peter. And please, try not to die. Peter can't live without you." Tony shook his head. I gulped and nodded as I forced a smile onto my lips.
"Thank you, Tony. I'll try." I choked. He sighed and gave me a small smile, the helmet finally closing over my head as he took a step back. I took a deep breath, a tear leaving my eye as I looked around the space. Suddenly, it whirred into life, making my eyes widen as screens and holograms appeared before my eyes.
"Holy shit-."
"Hello, I'm FRIDAY, standing for 'Female Replacement Intelligent Digital Assistant Youth'. I'm sorry, but I do not recognise your retinal scan. What is your name?" A female voice sounded.
"Um, I'm Y/N." I gulped.
"Hello, Y/N. What can I do for you today?" She asked. I took another deep breath, my mind knowing that once I said this, it was done. I would join the fight as soon as I spoke.
"Take me to wherever Spider-Man is." I nodded.
"You got it." She replied, making me take another deep breath as the suit launched up through the tube connecting to the alcove that it had been in and up into the air.
