Chapter Thirty-three - One vow is everything

TW: death, mentions of trauma, mentions of mental health issues.

Peter's P.O.V

Peter walked into the airplane hangar that he'd tracked The Vulture too, the silence around him deafening as he walked. He looked around, his jaw clenching underneath his mask as his Spidey senses went crazy. He just couldn't tell what they were sensing.

"When will you learn to stop coming after me?" He whipped around, his eyebrows furrowing as he heard a bellowing voice behind him, but no one was there.

"If you think for one second that I'll stop before you're back rotting in your prison cell, think again." He spat.

"I think that you'll be dead before you get the chance to put me back there." Peter cried out and fell to his knees as something sliced through his waist.

"What the fuck?" He gulped as he looked up. His eyes widened as he saw the culprit, the drone that was a smaller version of The Vulture's wings racing back towards him.

"Fuck no." He spat as he shot to his feet before extending his wrist. He fired a web at the small drone and pulled it down before stamping on it. He looked up again.

"I'm not a fifteen-year-old kid anymore, asshole. It'll take a lot more than just your sharp wings to kill me." He spat.

"That's why I brought more toys than just that, Pete." The Vulture's voice rang out mockingly again, making Peter's eyes widen as a dozen more drones flew towards him from the doors of the hangar.

"Oh, brilliant." He mumbled before bracing himself. He broke into a sprint before flipping over the first one, his hands grabbing it as he flew over it. He slammed it down onto the ground before extending both arms and firing webs out of both wrists. They attached to two drones, making Peter yell out as he smashed them together. Suddenly, Peter heard something else. He turned around, his eyes widening as The Vulture soared towards him.

"Oh, fuck-." The villain's feet collided with Peter's chest, making him yell out as he was thrown backwards. He landed harshly on the concrete, a groan leaving his lips as he coughed and cradled his stomach with his arm. He tried to get up but immediately The Vulture's foot was on his chest, making him choke as it was restricting his breathing.

"This is the problem with kids nowadays. You all think that you can save the world, that you can do some good. It's not your fault of course, you're all raised to believe that you can make a difference and that you can be good in a world that's truly fucked up. But it's not true. The world eats you up and spits you out like it does with everyone else. The problem with you is that you can't handle that. You can't handle the rejection and the realisation that you aren't good people, that the world isn't a good place. That's just too much for your precious little hearts to take." He chuckled and shook his head. Peter clenched his jaw, his teeth gritted together as he desperately tried to find the strength to fight back.

"Getting you here, finally putting you away again, that's not about making the world a better place. Making sure that you see justice is how I avenge MJ and how I avenge you trying to kill my girlfriend several times. Because you're right, I don't think that I can change the world. But I sure as hell am going to make the world slightly less shitty by making sure that I fuck you up." He spat before throwing The Vulture's foot off of his chest. The villain stumbled back, his eyes widening as that gave Peter the chance to jump back up.

"Karen, web bomb!" He yelled as he fired at The Vulture. It exploded, making him groan again as it coated his wings in the webs, as well as his arms to keep him restrained.

"Who is the world eating up and spitting out now, asshole?" He spat as he kicked him in the chest and sent him tumbling to the ground again. The Vulture smirked at him, making Peter narrow his eyes.

"What the fuck is so funny?" He scoffed.

"Did you just forget that I have a whole crew who are completely loyal to me?" The man smirked. Peter's eyes widened and he looked up as a dozen more men ran into the hangar, every last one of them pointing some kind of alien tech straight at him.

"Fuck." Peter gulped, his heart starting to race as he desperately tried to figure out what to do. Suddenly, there was a crash behind him, making him look over his shoulder. His eyes widened, his heart filling with hope again as Tony landed only fifty feet behind him in his suit.

"Mr Stark, thank god." he gulped.

"A-actually, no, it's, um...me." Peter's eyes widened again, a sick feeling quickly overtaking him as Y/N's voice sounded. She had really joined the fight. And she could really die because of it.

"Oh, god." He whispered.

Y/N's P.O.V

"FRIDAY, where the fuck are you taking me?!" I screamed, my heart and mind racing as the suit flew me to fuck knows where.

"You told me to take you to where Spider-Man is. That's what I'm doing." The AI responded, making me gulp harshly and try to stay calm as I saw the airplane hangar in the near distance.

"He can't be there, surely. Why would The Vulture be there?" I scoffed.

"I don't know any more than you do." FRIDAY responded.

"Jeez, sorry, FRIDAY." I scoffed again before the suit started to shoot down towards the airplane hangar.

"Oh, okay, we're actually going here-." My eyes widened, my heart jumping as we got increasingly closer to the roof. And yet weren't slowing down or stopping.

"FRIDAY, stop, stop!" I crashed through the roof, making me scream and squeeze my eyes shut. But to my shock, there was no more impact. I peeled my eyes open, a breath of relief leaving my lips as I opened them to see that I had landed safely. But I was far from being out of the woods yet. In front of me I could see Peter, my boyfriend looking at me with his white Spider-Man eyes as he stood surrounded by The Vulture's men.

"Mr Stark, thank god." Peter gulped.

"A-actually, no, it's, um...me." I chuckled nervously, Peter's eyes widening as he heard my voice.

"Y/N, what are you doing here?!" He exclaimed.

"I couldn't sit by and do nothing whilst you were fighting this guy, I felt so helpless. So, Mr Stark let me borrow this suit to help you fight in." I nodded.

"Oh my god-fine, let's do this." Peter scoffed before turning around and launching his foot into the stomach of the first guy.

"Fuck-okay, FRIDAY, how do I fire?" I gulped as I raised my flattened palm just like how Tony had told me to. My eyes widened, a gasp leaving my lips as I immediately fired at one of the guys, making him groan as he fell to the ground.

"Holy shit-babe, do that again!" Peter yelled, my boyfriend jumping and leaping over the thugs as he webbed them up and knocked them out.

"O-okay, let me figure it out!" I shouted back as I raised my hand again. I started to fire at the other thugs, groans leaving their lips as they fell down with each hit. Another one ran towards me, making me raise my metal foot into his chest to kick him back. He fell onto the concrete unconscious, Peter and I continuing to work together as we took out The Vulture's minions one by one. I fired at the last one, a sigh of relief leaving my lips as Peter and I now stood surrounded by knocked-out thugs. I looked at Peter, making him give me a nod as we looked ahead.

"What the fuck?" Peter mumbled, my eyes widening as The Vulture was no longer restrained on the ground like he had been when we had started fighting his thugs. Suddenly, pain started to shoot through me, making me cry out as electricity filled the Iron-Man suit.

"Peter, what's happening?!" I cried out, my eyes squeezing shut at the pain as energy surged through me and the suit.

"I don't know, it's malfunctioning, get out!" He returned.

"FRIDAY, let me out!" I screamed. The suit opened up and I fell out of it, coughs and gasps leaving my lips as I got out of it.

"Baby, fuck, are you okay?" Peter gulped as he collapsed onto his knees beside me and put his arms around me.

"Y-yeah, I think so-." Peter was thrown back, making me scream as the drone picked him up and threw him across the hangar.

"PETER!" I screamed as he landed harshly, groans of pain leaving his lips as he lay there. A hand was placed on my shoulder, making me look at the culprit. My eyes widened, a cry leaving my lips as The Vulture launched his fist into my face, making me roll over onto my back. Before I could even move an inch, the villain's foot was on my chest, making me choke as he restricted my breathing.

"Funny how this was all that I needed to make a multi-billion-dollar suit malfunction and get you out of it." He smirked, making my eyes widen as he held up the gadget that had obviously shorted the wiring of the suit.

"Get the fuck away from her! Y/N!" Peter screamed as he scrambled to his feet.

"Ah, ah, ah, take one more step and I crush her chest." The Vulture warned. I choked at his words, tears starting to leave my eyes as I desperately held onto his ankle.

"Okay, okay, fuck, don't hurt her." Peter choked as he stood there and raised his hands.

"Take the mask off. I don't want you calling in some fucking airstrike using Tony's resources or something." He demanded. Peter looked at me, making me bite my lip harshly as I tried to stay strong for him, but it was getting harder the more that my body was begging for air.

"Don't do it, Peter, he's just going to kill me anyway, don't let him kill you too-."

"Shut the fuck up." The Vulture snapped, making me cry out as he put more pressure on my chest. I gulped harshly and looked at Peter.

"It's okay, baby. I'm going to get us out of this." He nodded.

"I know." I whispered, tears streaming down the sides of my face as I gave him a small smile. He looked at The Vulture again as his hand raised to his mask. He pulled it off, his hair messy and his eyes red as he threw his mask onto the floor.

"There. I did what you asked. Now, let her go, she isn't involved in this. This is between us." Peter spat.

"You know, Pete, for an intelligent kid, you sure are fucking stupid. You involved your loved ones the second that you came after me for the first time. See, you're not a hard person to figure out. It's obvious that you don't give a shit what happens to you, but the second that someone touches the people that you love, you won't have that. You're broken by that. So, it's as simple as killing everyone that you love until you have nothing. Until you can't find it in you to be the better person and stop coming after me anymore. Until you die." The Vulture spat. I choked at his words, my mouth hanging open as my heart dropped to my stomach. I knew exactly what he was saying, and it wasn't good. The only way that Peter would be able to stop him once and for all...would be to kill him. And that required Peter to have the mental strength and willingness to kill him, and be able to live with that. And that was something that I didn't know if he had in him.

"You don't have to do this. It doesn't have to end like this, please-."

"Here's what I'm offering you, Pete. Either I kill your girlfriend, or you kill me." He spat. Tears left my eyes, chokes and gasps leaving my lips and less and less oxygen reaching my lungs as I stared at Peter. His mouth hung open, tears leaving his eyes as he looked at me. I knew what he was going to pick, but I knew that it was also tearing him apart inside. He was being given the chance to save me when he couldn't save MJ, and I knew that he loved me enough to do it. The problem was the price that he'd pay for doing it. The price of intentionally killing someone. And that price, he'd have to deal with for the rest of his life.

"Peter." I sobbed, my head starting to spin from a lack of air as The Vulture's foot became increasingly heavy on my chest.

"It's going to be okay, baby." Peter choked.

"Don't lie to her, kid. In three seconds, she's going to be dead." The Vulture spat.

"You don't have to do this." He shook his head.

"Three." The Vulture started, making our eyes widen as I gasped for breath.

"Stop, don't do this."

"Two."

"Peter, please!"

"It's going to be okay!"

"One."

"KAREN, ACTIVATE INSTANT KILL!" Peter yelled as his fist shot up and he fired what looked to be a web bullet at The Vulture. It hit him in the chest, making me scream and scramble back as he immediately fell down. I stared at the man's now dead body, tears silently leaving my eyes as I just stared at him. I turned my head to look at Peter again, the exact same expression on my boyfriend's face as he sank to his knees.

"I just...I just killed a man...I just-just intentionally killed a man." He choked and shook his head.

"Peter." I gulped harshly as I scrambled to my feet and ran over to him. As soon as I was close enough, his arms tightly wrapped around me, my body also sinking to the floor as he tightly held me. Tears ran down both of our faces, Peter's arms locked around my waist as the boy sobbed into my chest. There was no doubt in my mind that The Vulture would have killed me if Peter wouldn't have killed him first and therefore he had done the right thing, but I knew that that wouldn't be how Peter saw it at the moment. He'd see it as him having intentionally killed someone, after years of strictly adhering to his code of not killing. He'd see it as him having just murdered someone. And I knew that that would be breaking him inside.

"You did what you had to do, Pete. He was going to kill me, you had no other choice." I tried to sooth him as I stroked his hair.

"I-I know, I just...I thought that he was bluffing. I didn't think that he'd actually m-make me choose, I didn't think that he was willing to kill himself for this, I...I don't know." He cried and shook his head.

"I know, babe, and that's okay. But what matters is that we're okay. We're both alive, we're both okay, we're with each other. Thank you for saving my life, Peter. Again." I chuckled in an attempt to lighten the mood. Peter raised his head to look at me, tears still running down his face but a small smile curling onto his lips as he stared into my eyes.

"I would never have let you die, Y/N. I love you way too much to have lost you too." He whispered.

"I know, Pete. I know." I reassured. He sighed and nodded, his spandex-covered hand raising to wipe his eyes as he stood up and pulled me to my feet too.

"Come on, we need to get out of here before the cops show up. We should go back to Mr Stark, you must still be injured and in pain after the building collapse, we should get you back in his medical suite." He nodded.

"I'm fine, Pete, I'm not in pain." I reassured and shook my head.

"That's the adrenaline, babe, give it half an hour and you will be in pain." He scoffed, making me playfully roll my eyes at him as he curled his arm around my waist and shot a web up at the ceiling before launching us out of the airplane hangar.
