Chapter 48 - Clay

Logan decides to open his stupid mouth. My eyes narrow in his direction, he turns his head, avoiding my gaze. I know what's coming next.

"Can we talk about what happened between you girls and Sloane the other day?" He asks timidly, as he should. He's lucky I'm not kicking his ass right now. Raven responds, much to my amazement.

"Sure, go for it." As she takes a bite of her food.

He gulps; he better watch what he says. "You often laugh and smile with us, so I didn't believe Brie when she said you don't care about feelings, but then I noticed the expression on your face when you grabbed Sloane. You didn't give a damn that she was in pain or that you were inflicting anguish on her. It nearly seemed as though you were a different person. It had no impact on you. I suppose the question I'm asking is, Why?" He finishes.

She glances at him without any emotion. She gives me a look that I've never seen before, preceded by her answer. "It is not that easy. It does not determine my emotions if I have no regard for someone else's. Because I'm me, I'll smile, laugh, and even cry. Brie is the only member of my family, so I respect her feelings. Simply put, since I don't love, I don't care if someone is sad. It doesn't affect me in any way, and I don't worry about other people since I genuinely don't care," He hears from her.

"So why then have regard toward Clay's emotions?" He asks.

"Logan!" I bark.

"It's okay," she says, putting her hand on my leg. "Honestly, I don't know. I think it's because he is the only one who has been able to break through my walls and see me for me, broken inside and out."

I feel like a dagger went through my heart; she's not broken. She's just trying to find herself. "So, all in all, you two are the same person," Logan says.

"What part of that didn't you understand when Brie first explained it to us?" I ask him while leaning back in my chair and crossing my arms. Raven bites her bottom lip as she observes me, and I realise she is focusing on my chest muscles flexing as I cross my arms. Despite Logan and Brie being seated nearby, I pull Raven onto my lap and give her a kiss as soon as she stands up. She takes a breath and smiles.

"Well, I, for one, am thrilled that Raven found someone she loves and loves her back," Brie says as Logan wraps his arms around her. "I feel the same about Clay," Logan chimes in; I look at him. "You needed this. Both of you deserve it." He finishes. I nod, and Raven thanks him.

"So I'm not going to class tomorrow, but I don't expect any of you to stay home again," Raven tells us.

"If you aren't going to school, neither am I," Brie states. "Same," Logan says.

I put my hand under her chin and turn her to face me. "Same with me." I look into her eyes; she kisses my cheek.

"Raven... we," Gesturing to all of us," have something to tell you," Brie says.

Oh, come on, can the girl get one day?

She just sits there and says nothing as we continue to sit around and recount everything Mr. Michaels stated.

"Babe," She looks over at me, "Are you okay?" I ask.

"Yeah, so what do I have to do?" She asks us.

"Nothing, you aren't doing anything alone. We are going to be by your side at all times," Logan tells her.

She looks at Brie. "I believe we should practise using your abilities. Spend some time now trying to grow them." Brie suggests.

Raven nods, "When do we start?"

"Now!" I tell her, kissing her head. She gets up and walks away. I follow as she walks into the powder room. She looks at herself in the mirror and takes a deep breath.

"Ray? If you don't want to do this, we don't have to." I reassure her that this is something she is in control of.

"It's not that," I look at her for answers. "I'm afraid I'll lose control and hurt one of you."

"We are prepared for anything, Ray; this needs to be done." I pull her to my chest and kiss her head. Her hands craze my bare back. She looks up at me.

"Okay." She puts her hair up, and we walk outside.

"Okay, Ray, can you light the pool up? It's a bigger perimeter than what you are used to, so you need to concentrate on making the ring go around the whole area," Brie tells her.

She concentrates; I've never seen her so focused; Then she whispers,

"Ignis,"

Flames light up around the pool. The more she focuses, the higher the fire goes and the brighter her marks glow. "That's sick!" Logan smiles; I agree; it's cool that she can do that.

She smiles and slowly makes the flames disappear. She takes a deep breath, and Brie gives her water.

"Okay, boys, you're up! Next is the invisibility spell. We already know you can cloak yourself, but if someone wants to find you, they follow your scent or your glow. You need to cloak yourself completely, then hide, and the boys will try to find you." Raven nods.

"Invisibillis."

We give her a few seconds, then start searching for her. "I can't pick up on her scent," Logan shouts.

"Me neither," Where the hell is she? Brie yells for her to come out of hiding after ten minutes have passed. When she does, the aroma of peppermint fills the air, causing me to look over and find her sitting on the patio steps. I immediately run up to her, draw her in, and give her a sweet kiss.

"I was beginning to think you had left," I tell her.

"Never." She looks at me softly. "What's next?"

"Wind," Brie tells her, "boys, are you ready? Remember, they can land on their feet, so I want you to try and push them away as far as you can. The backyard is long. Try to aim for the end, be ready, guys. She will throw one of you at a time. Who goes first is her choice," Brie tells us.

Raven looks at me, then at Logan. She has a menacing appearance; I'm a little afraid of her right now.

"Ventus"

She pushes her arms out, and we both go up. I see the determination on her face as I feel the air whip around me, and then she drops her arms, and we go flying backward, crashing into the fence.

"Oh my god!" Raven yells, and both girls come running towards us. "I'm so sorry!" She says.

"What happened to you guys landing on your feet?" Brie asks, trying not to burst into laughter.

"She overpowered us," Logan said, rubbing his head. I look at Raven, tears streaming down her face. "I'm so sorry," she cries. I pull her to my chest, still heavily breathing; she knocked the wind out of me.

"It's fine; look at me, you need to do this, and we told you we would help," I assure her.

"Okay, but I'm done!" She says, standing up. "Ray, there's still more," Brie tells her.

"Did you not see what I just did? I didn't just throw one of them. I threw them both; I overpowered them, both of them. The two strongest vamps in our school; I just laid them out!" She yells. "I'm done!" She walks away.

"I'll talk to her. She needs to do this."

"Are you sure? She's incredibly strong," Logan laughs, rubbing his neck.

"Ya," I say, all jokes aside. I run after her; she walks fast. "Babe, babe, wait," I call after her.

"What!" She yells, turning around; she is still crying.

"Listen, you need to do this. The more practice, the better. Look what you were able to do! You overpowered us. No one has ever been able to do that. If I were you, I'd brag about it," I tease, trying to get her to smile; no luck.

"I hurt you. I don't like that feeling." She sniffles.

She's so cute.

"A couple more things," I lean into her and whisper, "and then I'll make you forget all about it." Kissing her ear, she shivers, and I can hear her heart racing.

She moans, "Fine," She steps back and says, "But if you get hurt, it's not my fault."

"I know." I wrap her in my arms.

Logan and Brie join us; Brie asks if we should go on, and Raven unwillingly nods; She's going to murder me for this, for having her do this when she doesn't want to.

"Okay," Brie says, dangling handcuffs. "Eww, seriously, Brie?" Raven's grossed out, and it's funny.

"Oh, get your head out of the gutter. I bought these when Mr. Michaels said you needed to learn how to break free if you were ever locked up." Brie puts them on Raven's wrist.

"Erumpere,"

The cuffs unlock. "Okay, good, now let's see if you can unlock them without seeing them." She walks up behind us and makes us stand side by side. "One of them has the cuffs, the other a zip tie; free them both." Raven closes her eyes.

"Erumpere,"

Both items fall to the ground. "What's next?" She asks.

"The last one is inflicting pain." Brie looks at her.

"Oh hell no, no, no, nope!" Raven stammers and paces back and forth. "Ray, you have to. We need to know if you can overpower these two."

She looks at me, and I nod in agreement. She turns to Logan, and he does the same.

"I want to make it a bit more challenging," Brie says.

"How?" we all ask her.

"You need to go after her, lunge at her, and scare her, so she has no choice but to try and take both of you down." We both look at Raven.

"It's worth a shot," she says, shrugging her shoulders.

"Okay, I'm sorry," I tell her, just in case we do tackle her down.

"No, I'm sorry," she says; she's found her confidence. That's my girl! We start running towards her and jump, fangs out and eyes red, as she whispers,

"Contristo."

I can't stand up because the pain is so bad, and suddenly it stops. I inhale deeply and look over to find Logan lying next to me. She is looking down at me with a worried expression on her face.

"I'm fine. You did it." I get up, out of breath and with searing pain radiating in my head, and she runs into my arms.

My girl is an absolute badass.
