Chapter 25 ~ Inside St. Jerome's Church
"Okay, seriously, where are they?" I asked Harry, completely frustrated at all of this. We were back in 1981 and Albus and Scorpius were still nowhere to be found.
"Can't we just shout their names until they come out?" Ron suggested.
"And wake up all of Godric's Hollow? Let's not," Ginny said.
"They could be anywhere," Hermione added. "I think we need to hurry up and get off the streets."
So we headed for an old shed just around the corner. We all huddled inside, figuring out our next move. "So, now what?" Draco asked the rest of us.
"No idea," Harry and I replied at the same time.
"Oh, no, don't you two start that!" Ron protested.
"Mum?" two voices popped out of nowhere from behind us.
We all turned around, shocked and overflowed with joy. Standing there in front of us was Albus and Scorpius, looking just as surprised as ever to see us.
I ran towards my son, smiling hard. "Scorpius!" I gave him a tight hug, close to tears. "You're okay!"
"Yeah, I am," he replied. "Okay, you can let go of me now."
"Just one more second..." I whispered.
"Max, I think that's enough," Draco said, pulling me away from Scorpius.
I straightened myself out, sighing. "Sorry, I just can't believe we found you, both of you." I looked at Albus and gave him a soft smile.
Albus ran into Ginny's arms, hugging her tightly. It was obvious that Ginny was delighted to see her son as well. "You got our note?" Albus questioned, pulling away from Ginny.
"We got your note," she answered.
Scorpius went up to Draco, who pulled him in for a tight embrace. It made my heart happy to see them reunite. "You had us all worried, you know that?" Draco implied.
"Yeah, I know," Scorpius replied. "I'm sorry."
"Okay, so where's this Delphi at?" Ron spoke up, breaking the loving reunion.
"You guys know about Delphi?" Scorpius asked.
"She's here," Albus explained. "We think she's trying to kill Dad and Aunt Max before Voldemort curses himself. If she does that, then she'll break the prophecy and--"
"Yes, we thought that might be it, too," Hermione cut in, nodding her head in agreement. "Do you two know where she is now?"
Scorpius nodded his head. "She disappeared." He paused for a moment, a puzzled look forming on his face. "Wait, how did you guys get here without the Time-Turner?"
"That's a long and complicated story, Scorpius, and we don't have time for it," Harry replied, turning to Draco, who gave him a grateful smile.
Hermione nodded her head in agreement. "Harry's right. Time is of the essence. We need to get people into position. Now, Godric's Hollow is not a large place, so Delphi could be coming from any direction. We need somewhere that gives us good views of the town that allows for multiple and clear observation points and that will, most importantly, keep us hidden, because we cannot risk being seen."
"I think my brain is about to explode," I commented. "I'm not sure if any of us can think of any places that cover all that criteria."
Hermione formed a grin. "Lucky for you, I know a place." She looked out the window and pointed at a church nearby. "How does St. Jerome's Church sound?"
So we all did our best to tread carefully to the church. Once we got the clear from Hermione, we went inside, making ourselves comfortable. Albus and Scorpius immediately headed for a pew, falling asleep instantly. I chuckled, sitting down in a pew myself, looking up at the ceiling.
"I'm surprised you're not at the window with your brother," Draco said as he sat down beside me.
I sighed, shrugging my shoulders. "It's weird, being back here, really. I guess I just want to take it all in for now."
He chuckled. "That's understandable." He paused, cleared his throat, then went back to speaking. "I'm glad our son is safe."
I nodded my head in agreement. "Me, too. I just couldn't believe him and Albus thought they had to save the world. Why couldn't they be normal?"
"That's the thing, Max. The Potters and Malfoys will never be normal," Draco pointed out.
"Good point." I sighed, shaking my head. "How the hell did we end up here?"
Draco took my hand, squeezing it tightly. "Well, just like our son, we're not so normal, either."
"No, we are not," I agreed. "We were never a normal couple."
"And we never will be," he added.
I looked at Draco. "Well, being normal is overrated, anyway." I gave him a small smile. His face brightened a little.
"Guys!" Ginny called out to us. "I've just thought of something!" Draco, Ron, Hermione, and I went to Ginny and Harry, huddling around them. "Has anyone thought about why Delphi picked this day?"
"Because this is the day that everything changed..." Harry said.
"Right now you and Max are over a year old, right?"
"A year and three months," I spoke up.
"That's a year and three months she could've killed you two in. Even now, she's been in Godric's Hollow for twenty-four hours. What's she waiting for?"
I thought about it, but nothing came to my mind. "We're still not following..."
"What if she's waiting for him to show up?"
My eyes widened. "What?"
"Delphi's picked tonight because her father is coming and she wants to meet him and be with him, the father she loves. Voldemort's problems started when he attacked you two. If he hadn't done that--"
"--then he would've gotten more powerful and the darkness would only have got darker," Harry finished for her.
"So to her, the best way to break the prophecy is not to kill the Potter twins," Ginny said.
"It's to stop Voldemort from doing anything at all," I stated.
We all stayed silent for a moment, trying to process this theory. Ginny had to be right. If Delphi wasn't after us, then why else would she come back here in 1981?
"What's going on?" Albus asked in a sleepy tone, walking towards us, followed by Scorpius.
"We're just talking," Ginny replied.
"So let me get this straight..." Ron spoke up. "We're fighting to protect Voldemort?"
"What?" Scorpius questioned, obviously confused.
"We don't think Delphi came back here to kill me and Uncle Harry," I answered.
"Right. Delphi's not trying to kill Harry and Max. She's trying to stop Voldemort from killing them," Hermione explained. "Brilliant. We've got something."
"So do we just wait until Voldemort turns up?" Draco inquired.
Albus cleared his throat. "Well, does she know when he turns up? Hasn't she come here twenty-four hours early because she isn't sure when he'll arrive and in what direction? The history books show nothing about when and how he arrived in Godric's Hollow, right?"
I raised my eyebrows. "That's a good point, Albus. I didn't even think of that."
"Okay, so how can we use this to our advantage?" Draco asked.
"What about Polyjuice Potion?" Albus suggested. "Bathilda Bagshot may have all the ingredients for Polyjuice in her basement. Someone can Polyjuice into Voldemort and bring her to us."
"To use Polyjuice you need a bit of someone. We don't have a bit of Voldemort," Ron pointed out. "Besides, the potion takes a bloody month to make."
"But I like the concept, a pretend mouse for her cat," Hermione said.
"Brilliant, so how close can we get through Transfiguration?" Harry piped up.
"Well, we know what he looks like. We've got some excellent wizards and witches here." Hermione looked around, smiling at all of us.
"So one of us has to transfigure into Voldemort?" Ginny asked.
"It's the only way," Harry replied.
Ron bravely stood up, clearing his throat. "Then I would like to do it. I think I should be him. I mean, it won't be...well, exactly nice being Voldemort...but without wishing to blow my own trumpet, I am probably the most chilled out of all of us. So maybe transfiguring into him, into the Dark Lord, will do less damage to me than any of you more intense people."
I rolled my eyes. Even after all these years he still said stupid stuff.
"Who are you calling intense?" Hermione retorted, raising her eyebrows dangerously towards Ron.
Draco was the next to stand up. "I'd also like to volunteer."
"What?" I shot my wide eyes up to Draco.
"I think being Voldemort requires precision...no offense, Weasl-- Ron...and some knowledge of Dark Magic."
"I'd like to volunteer, too," Hermione added. "As Minister for Magic, I think it's my responsibility and right."
"I think you're all bloody mad," I commented.
"Maybe we should draw lots--" Scorpius spoke up.
"You're not volunteering, Scorpius," Draco said firmly.
Ginny was the one to put her foot down, shaking her head. "No, no way. Max is right, you're all bloody mad. I know what that voice is like inside your head and I won't have it in mine again."
"Besides, it has to be either me or Max," Harry added.
We all turned our heads towards my brother.
"What?" Draco spoke up.
"For this plan to work she has to believe it's him, without hesitation. She'll use Parseltongue and I knew there was a reason why Max and I still have that ability. But more than that, we know what it is to feel like him. We know what it is to be him. It has to be one of us."
Deep down, I knew that Harry was right. It had to be one of us. No one knew Voldemort like we did. No one was connected to him like we were. The question was, who was going to transfigure into him?
Ron began to slow clap, huffing a sigh. "Rubbish. Beautifully put, but still rubbish. There's no way that--"
"You're right, my old friend," Hermione intervened, slightly sad about it.
"No, Hermione, you're wrong."
"I hate to agree with my brother, but--" Ginny admitted.
"--one of them could get stuck as Voldemort forever," Ron concluded.
"So could any of us. Your concerns are valid, but--"
"Hang on," Harry stopped her. "Neither of us won't do it if you don't want us to. But it feels like the only way, am I wrong?"
Sighing in defeat, Ginny nodded her head. "You're right."
Harry nodded back. "Okay, then." He turned my way. "Do you want to do this?"
"What, turn into Voldemort?" I scoffed. "I don't think so."
"Well, I didn't think you wanted to," he said. "Which is fine. I can do it."
"I mean, I'm a woman, Harry, so it's only logical that you do it," I pointed out.
"True." He took a deep breath. "Okay, let's do this."
"Wait, don't we need to discuss the route you're taking?" Draco intervened.
"She's watching for him, so she'll come to me," Harry explained.
"And then what? I'm going to remind you that she is a very powerful witch," Draco stated.
"Well, the plan is easy. He'll just get her in here and then we'll zap her together," Ron expressed.
Furrowing his eyebrows, Draco shot Ron a baffled look. "Sorry, we'll 'zap' her?"
"Just let it go," I whispered in his ear.
Hermione scanned around the room, in deep thought. "How about we hide behind these doors? Harry, if you can get her to this point..." She pointed where the light from the rose window hit the floor. "Then we come out and make sure she has a chance to escape."
"And then we'll zap her!" Ron added.
"I'm about to zap you if you don't shut up," I warned, shooting him a stern look.
He let out a laugh. "I'd like to see you try."
It was Draco's turn to give Ron a warning. "I wouldn't test my wife if I were you." He shifted his eyes my way and gave me a wink, which made my heart flutter a little.
"We saw that," Albus and Scorpius muttered towards Draco.
Hermione took a deep breath, staring at Harry. "Harry, last chance, are you sure you can do this?"
He nodded his head in response. "Yes, I can do this."
"It's still a mad idea," Draco remarked. "There's too many what-if's, too many things that can go wrong. The Transfiguration could not hold, Delphi could see through it. If she escapes us now, then there's no telling the damage she can do. We need time to plan, don't you think?"
"Uncle Draco, trust my dad. He won't let us down," Albus spoke up, which made Harry look at his son, deeply moved.
"Yeah, Draco. Everything will be fine," I assured him, a calm expression on my face.
Sighing, he nodded his head. "Okay."
"Right. Wands out, everyone," Hermione instructed.
We all drew our wands out and pointed them at Harry, who held a firm grip on his. Together, we focused on the spell, a light building around Harry, almost overwhelming. The Transfiguration was slow yet monstrous all at once. Then, Harry emerged from the light as Lord Voldemort. We all widened our eyes, aghast at his transformation.
"Bloody hell," Ron muttered.
"I'm guessing it worked?" Harry implied.
I nodded my head. "It worked."

A/N: Heyoooo!
So originally, the whole thing with Delphi was going to be in this chapter, but I thought that would be too long, so I decided to put all of that in another chapter.
What do y'all think so far? Who's ready for the FINAL battle? (LOL, not me).
Song above is Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes.
Comment, vote, the action begins in the next chapter!
