Dinner Time
We are getting ready for dinner.
Sofia gasps as she sees me step out of my dressing room. "Girl, who are you trying to impress? You look smoking in that dress." I have on a white lace dress that comes down to my knees then black boots.
"Yeah, and you look good too. I just wanted something other than jeans," looking down at the dress I have on.
"I wish I had packed a dress. Didn't think about it" as she puts her boots on. She has on a pair of faded jeans, along with a black top that shows off her shoulders. It is short-sleeved and runs along the top of her breasts with lace lying below her collar bone.
"I had this in the closet in this trailer for a month and haven't used it yet. I couldn't find a purpose to wear it out," smoothing out the wrinkle that is in a pleat.
There is a knock on the door, and Sofia opens it up to reveal both guys standing there looking mouth-watering in their Jean's and dress shirts. Travis has on skin-tight jeans with a blue button-down shirt and Cole has on jeans with a black button-down. Cole doesn't look amused, but Travis is smiling.
"Ladies, you look beautiful. Come now, let's eat" as he offers us his hand.
Cole's mouth twitches a little bit as he looks at me, then fades just as quickly. We head out to Travis's truck and get in the back while the guys sit up front.
Travis looks at us through the rearview as he starts the truck. "So ladies, have you ever been to The Red River Cafe?"
"Yes, I used to come to this arena with my dad years ago. This was one of the places we would eat. Sofia would travel with us like we were sisters. We have been inseparable forever."
Travis smiles, and his eyes light up. "I'm glad that y'all enjoy it. Some people don't like it here. I think they have good food, but not everybody likes burgers and hot dogs."
We walk inside and get a booth. Travis sits next to me, Cole and Sofia are across from us. We look over the menus and place our orders.
Turning my head to look at Travis, "So how long have you been riding bulls professionally?"
Travis's eyes glisten in the dark place. "I have been for four years. Cole and I have been competing against each other since eleven, though. We traveled to a lot of the same competitions as kids and became friends from there."
Cole has been watching Travis, and I talk but hasn't taken his eyes off me. He hasn't said a word either all night.
"Cole? How long have you been a professional bull rider? Is this something you have always wanted to do?" Sofia asks him in a soft voice due to he has been ignoring her.
Cole snaps out of his trance. "Huh? Oh sorry. I have been pro for six years now. I enjoy the time on the circuit and love going to all the competitions. I grew up training for this and always wanted to do it from a small child."
"Oh, do you and Travis always travel together?" she asks again.
"Yes, we do. I enjoy his company most of the time when he isn't sneaky behind my back." Cole shoots Travis a 'you know what I'm talking about, look.' Travis busts out laughing, but Cole scowls.
Sofia looks over at Travis. "So, how old are you guys?"
Travis smiles at her. "Since Cole is in a bad mood this evening, I'll answer that. I am twenty-seven, and Cole is twenty-eight. We both grew up in the same town and have been friends since elementary school. We both had an interest in the rodeo to practice out in his barn every day. We tried roping but didn't like it. So we started to practice on a barrel for bull riding that's still hanging up in his barn."
Sofia touches his arm gently. "Why are you mad, Cole? Did we do something wrong?"
Cole looks over at her with a small smile. "No, it wasn't you, ladies."
As we look over the menu, "Ladies, your supper is on me tonight since I asked you out."
"Thanks, Travis, but there is no need to pay. We brought plenty of money with us," she says while looking at him with a shy smile.
"No, I insist. What kind of gentleman would I be if I didn't pay? Just say thank you and enjoy the night."
Sofia speaks at the same time that I do, "Thank you."
"Thank you. So are either of you married or seeing anyone?" as I look over at the two men.
Cole goes straight as a board, and Travis shakes his head.
"Neither of us are married or dating. No, we wouldn't be asking you out if we were either."
"Maybe you were looking for new friends to hang out with? I have met plenty of married men who want what I call rodeo friends. We hang out, eat, go to bars, and dance, but never anything more" wondering where this is going.
"Well, that is also nice, but I am always looking for more than just a friend. I am hoping to meet my future wife someday." He looks at me with a huge grin and twinkle in his eyes. Our food arrives, we all dig in and enjoy our meal together, talking and finding out more about each other.
"There's a nice bar down the road just a hop; want to go check it out? We could get a few drinks, and they have a dance floor."
Cole growls at him, "Travis!"
"I would like to, but it is obvious that we have taken up too much of your time. Cole seems like he doesn't want to go."
He throws his hands out at Cole. "Oh, he's always like this. Come on; we won't stay long. Just a few drinks and a couple of dances."
Cole gives a murderous look but drags himself out to the truck and gets in while we get in the back cab. When we get there, Travis opens my door and helps me out of the truck. Cole does the same for Sofia, and we walk into the bar, then head straight for a table near a corner.
Travis looks at us. "What would y'all like? We will go get it for you."
Sofia lights up. "I'll take a beer right now."
"Same here," nodding at him.
Cole and Travis make their way up to the bar together. "Man, you are dragging down these girls tonight. What is wrong with you? You have never been like this before" Travis smacks his arm.
Cole snarls, "I don't know. I am trying to be nice, but something about Angel is throwing me off. I want to but just can't."
Travis winks at him. "Are you saying you find her attractive?"
"Yes, she is gorgeous. Her smile is so sweet-looking, and she acts so innocently I can't put my finger on it."
"So are you saying you are going to make a move on her?" gently jabbing him in his ribs.
"What? No, no, I can't. I'm not going down that road. You know that."
"Good. I am definitely making a move on her tonight. She is funny, charming, competitive, and breathtaking."
Cole looks over at him, shocked. "Oh? So you were checking in with me so you could?"
"Man, you haven't taken your eyes off her all night," wiggling his eyebrows.
"As I said, I can't put my finger on it. Fine, I will do better," he says as he sighs under his breath.
"You need to be nicer to Sofia. She is trying to be nice, but you are sealed up tighter than a drum. I'm here to have fun and maybe find me a girlfriend on the way. Angel is someone I want to see how far it goes" grabbing the drinks for him and Angel.
