I scratched my head as I stood there leaning on a post with the  phone at my ears looking like a fool when she ended the call.

After we had our ice cream moment, I got hurriedly called back to base about a mission. We had to leave due to its urgency and I couldn't reach out to her.

The mission was hell; Asher got shot in the buttocks, how he managed to get a bullet there was still a mystery and  is something we will forever tease him about.

Immediately we were cleared today, I got a new burner phone and I was dialing her number which was sealed to my memory already. In my initial excitement I forgot that I was in Germany and the time difference to San Francisco was 10 hours so while it was four here it is well into the night over there it was when her groggy sleepy "hi" came out that I remembered and did the calculation.

I was chuckling at my foolishness. I kept acting like a school boy on his first date, around her or like  like a kid that had his candy in her bags.

Oh boy! She has been on my mind and messing with my thoughts big time.

The call escalated quickly and now, I stood here in shock after she told me to loose her number. One minute I was super excited to talk to her forgetting how tired the lack of forty hour sleep made me, then I went to pissed.

She had a man over.

With the way she approached me  when we first met, I'm pretty sure this was the normal for her.

I don't like the way that thought makes me feel and  I'm super confused at why I acted the way I did. Why I was so quick to reprimand her like a jealous husband or ex?

Because you were jealous.

Jealous of what exactly? We barely knew each other, but why did she have that man in her house so late at night?

Maybe he was her brother?

The voice clearly said 'come back to bed' why will she be sharing one bed with her brother?

I leaned against the post where I stood to get a little privacy from the boys. Although Ashley was airlifted earlier today to an hospital in Germany the rest of us were here waiting for our flight.

I felt like shit. My sleep deprived body was on a low now in addition with the sting of her rejection.

Why did her words hurt so much? So, she was just done with me like that?

Well, its not like we had anything going on before.

"What are you thinking about? Xavier asked whacking me on the back of my head. I shot him an evil look.

I wasn't even in the mood for him right now.

"Would you leave me alone please." I bit out harshly.

He laughed a small carefree laugh "why is your panties in such a big twist, you aren't even the one that got shot in the buttocks."

Do I look like I'm in the mood for your stupid jokes?

I shoved him away and stalked off.

"Better come to mama and tell me what's wrong,"he insisted calling after me.

"Guy lemme alone!" I shouted again, but Xavier being Xavier knew I was just trying to push him away and instead followed me again and pinned me with his no nonsense stare.

"Stop whining like a baby, we are all tired and worried about him if that's what is making you so irritable although I doubt it." he called out.

Stop acting like an ass.

"I'm sorry man. I just need a little space and I'm wound tight," as I spoke I kept  pushing my fingers through my hair and biting my lower lips.

"She'll come around don't worry" he replied thumping me gently on the shoulder.

I stood with my mouth open in shock, how did he even know it was about a girl?  Xavier acted like the most carefree  person but he knew way much more than we give him credit for.

"I think I really like her." Whispering quietly so he wouldn't catch it, even though he still did.

"I know man. Come on let's eat, our flight will be here soon" hanging his hand over my shoulder in a normal bro kinda way.

"Are you not going to ask me about who is she is?" I asked.

"Oh you mean, the emergency that made you stay a day over when we were at San Francisco?" Smiling brightly again.

"Wait you all knew it was about a lady?"

Throwing back his head he laughed loudly "Of course yes. The disadvantages of not being a ladies man is that when you get any action we can sniff it out after all we humans are nothing but just emotional dogs"

"Move away, you stink," then I removed his hands from off my shoulder.

"Y'all are creeps."

"Hey guys! Jason here is surprised we know about his mystery woman in San Francisco, the one he is always texting during meetings." Loud laughter erupted from the boys and I felt a little embarrassed they knew.

Even the Sheikh knew, he gave me a knowing smile. So much for keeping them out of my business.

"Wait did you bang her yet?" Xavier asked again with a naughty grin. Trust Xav to be crude.

I shook my head at his naughtiness and said "I need to get my mothers anointing oil to wash your mind" flipping him the middle finger.

"Your mom scares me, last time she took me to church I actually thought of repentance." He said.

Liar.

Somehow they hit it off on a close level even though she always reprimanded him for all his tats.

Xavier had tattoos all over his hands and neck. They still adored each other almost more than me, not like I care though my mom can be so annoying.

Xavier managed to spoil her silly and indulge her in gossiping. He also drove her anywhere she wants. Ever since I joined the army Xavier was her adopted son.

"You do need spiritual cleansing." the sheikh piped in. This time we all laughed.

"Amen brother." Anita piped in. Then pulled off the magazine that was covering her face. Anita's superpower was sleeping. She could sleep anywhere and she everywhere in the most horrible of conditions, just give her a place to lay her head and boom she was asleep.

"Are you shy with me? Come on I can give you tips. I know you've been off the game for a while," Xavier  laughed like a buffoon again and someone came in to let us know our flight was ready.

As we filed out, Xavier whispered "all will be well" and I smiled. This dudes right here were my brothers in arms and in life.

We all slept  through most of the flight home. When we touched back down at Montgomery Air force Base we went straight  into our locker rooms where we kept our personal possession which we couldn't take along. Debriefing of the mission will be done tomorow.

I pulled out my phone, the battery was dead now and I plugged it into a nearby socket.

Anita didn't bother changing. She just dumped her mission go bag and waved us bye. She was always cranky when sleepy.

"Bye guys," Sheikh called out.

"Come on, let's go home" Xavier called out.

"I'm not going to my mum house. I was there less than a week ago." I shouted.

"But I've not been there for a while now" pouting slightly.

"So go. Last time I was there she brought up Tianah which pissed me off then she said something about Jadesola seeing someone with bald head," I chuckled at the last part but he wasn't finding it funny.

"Did you check out the guy?" he asked pinching the space between his brows. I chuckled again at his frustration. Xavier adored my baby sister Jadesola sometimes I actually think he loves her.

"She's an adult, capable of taking care of herself you know."

"Yes. But it doesn't mean we shouldn't look out for her," he said playing with the edge of the face cap he wore.

I grinned then slapped the cap off, "are you sure its not because you don't want her seeing anybody at all?"

He rolled his eyes and this time gave me the middle finger.

My loud laughter echoed in the empty locker room. "Do you want me to tell you about her lover or not."

His face pinched red with anger"Why do you have to say lover, just say man friend or boy friend. Lover is making me imagine crazy things."

I laughed again, messing with him was always so funny especially whenever Jadesola was concerned.

"Come on, let's go home."

We picked our backpacks and made it over to our house on base. We had a place on the base though we stayed together .

"We'll go home tomorrow. I'm too exhausted right now I just want to sleep."

We piled into Xavier's truck and as he drove us home the news about Jadesola seeing someone was still messing with him "we still need to check the guy out" he grumbled.

I shrugged "You know she hates it when we mess with her business."

"What sort of a nonchalant brother are you?" he shouted.

I laughed again at his frustration "Exactly, you said brother not a jealous wannabe lover."

"That's low man," flipping me the middle finger again.

It wasn't as if I didn't care about Jade, my team has already checked him out and he was good and clean. Which was a fresh change from the bad boy vibes she usually likes.  Telling  him that will mess with his head more.

When we got home I plucked my phone into the socket took a shower and hit the bed.

BTW let's talk about overprotective brothers, my cousin still likes to live in the delusion that I've never had a boyfriend. 😂😂😂

As if he is not dating someone's sister.
