Chapter 13
The both of us managed to keep our briefs on the entire time even though I really wanted to remove them. There was something in Niall’s expression that told me that he wasn’t ready for something that extreme. Especially since everything was so new to him. I was the experienced one in the room, so I also had to be the responsibly one. And even though we kept a little bit of clothes on, that didn’t mean that we didn’t dirty them. And that was a little awkward.
“I-I’ll be back.” Niall spoke nervously, getting up from bed and waddling over to the door because feeling wet and sticky was an unpleasant feeling. He looked back and smiled at me as he left the room, most likely to get back to his own room, shower and change into some new briefs. I did the same, running a shower and cleaning up.
My body was still on fire because I never thought that this would happen with Niall. It scared me a little that we had gone so fast, from him just confessing that he may or may not be gay to doing the hanky panky in my room with Maura downstairs. It was a risk to do this all in the house where Maura could just walk in, but we both knew that she would have the decency to knock.
When I walked out of the bathroom, Niall was already on my bed again, freshly showered and in new briefs. “Hey.” He raised his hand to wave at me slightly.
“Hey.” I waved back, making my way over to my bed. I sat down next to Niall, leaning into him. “Was that- was that okay?” I had to ask, because from his sudden quietness I had no clue how he felt about it. I didn’t know if the smiles were fake, but if they were, then why would he come back to my room?
“It was awesome!” Niall cheered, throwing his arms into the air and flopping back onto my bed.
“Ha, that’s good.” I pulled my feet up to the bed and sat pretzel legged. “So what do you want to do for the rest of the day?” I asked. It was just getting late since we spent the morning cleaning the barn and then the afternoon fumbling around in the sheets. I then realized that we hadn’t eaten any lunch. My stomach grumbled to prove my thoughts.
“Food?”
“Food.” After gathering our clothes that were scattered around the room, we headed downstairs to see if Maura was around. All we found was a note attached to the fridge door. Gone out with Chris, please don’t go to any parties.
Well, seeing as it was a Sunday night and school was the next day, I didn’t think that we would be going to any parties anytime. Especially after the last one… I could tell that Niall was still dreading going to school. The only reaction he received from the kiss at the party was from Liam, and his reaction was good. That can’t be said for the rest of the closed minded school.
“Uhm, I can call Liam and we can go to this diner that’s like ten minutes that-a-way.” Niall pointed to the one side of the house. I shrugged, agreeing to whatever since Niall knew this town more than I did.
I really needed to get out more. But I figured I had a while in this town before I was on my own. I was only seventeen so I had another year until I was on my own at eighteen, though I didn’t see Maura as the type of woman that would kick me out right when I turned eighteen.
We found the keys to the truck on the little hook thing by the door. Niall left a note for his mother in case she came back before us and then we were on our way. Niall phone buzzed a few times in his pocket and he moved around and shot his hip out to me. “Can you get that?” He asked, both hands on the wheel and eyesight forward. I reached into his pocket, feeling his thigh muscle tighten when my fingers slipped into his pocket, pulling his phone out.
“It’s Liam.” I tapped at his phone screen and it finally popped up the message. “He said he’d be there in a bit.” I quickly texted him back saying ‘ok,’ and held Niall’s phone in my hands for the remainder of the short ride.
Liam’s Tahoe was parked out front and he had a girl at his side. She had curly hair and I thought I had seen her before, which I had. She had been at Liam’s side the night of the party. I guess they were a thing now? When Niall parked I got out first, waving at Liam. He waved back with a grin on his stubbly face.
“What going on, boys?” Liam shouted across the parking lot. The girl at his side waved at us, but gave us weary looks. I glanced over at Niall and saw that he was nervous. Liam knew about us, so did the girl know? “Niall you know this fine little girl here, but Zayn, this is Cassidy.” He hooked an arm around her waist and she nodded at us.
“Nice to meet you Cassidy.” I gave her my hand to shake, but she just nodded again and kept close to Liam. I swear, you can’t catch the gay by a handshake. I took my hand back and pocketed both in the pockets of my jacket. “So, food?” I nodded towards the small diner.
“Sounds good.” Niall spoke up as he pressed his hand into the lower portion of my back and led me forward. Once inside, where more people were sitting having their dinners, Niall dropped his hand from me and stood a little farther away.
“Just you four?” A waitress came up to us, popping the gum in her mouth as she spoke. We nodded and she led us to a booth. “Can I start y’all off with some drinks?” To say that the rest of our time at the diner went without incident would be a lie. Niall had gotten up to go to the bathroom and some guy tripped him. He looked around our age and I assumed that he went to the same school. Niall played it off like it was nothing, but when we kept getting dirty looks I asked for boxes for Niall’s dinner and mine.
“We’re gonna go.” I said, standing up to get my wallet out of my back pocket. Niall knew what I was getting at and stood up with me. We walked up to the register to pay and got out of there quickly, receiving a few more glares.
Apparently things went around quickly in that town. I wasn’t sure if that was a good or bad thing, but I was aiming more towards it being a bad thing. “Niall?” I called out after minutes of awkward silence in his truck. “If you don’t-“ I started, but he shook his head, causing me to stop.
“I made a choice. I’m sticking to it.”
“But I told you it would be hard.”
“I know, but did it ever stop you?” He glanced over at me and grinned. I shook my head in defeat. Nothing ever stopped me. I was never afraid of the pricks that said that my life was wrong. Why would I listen to them, even? My life is my life and I will follow whatever I believe to be true. Niall seemed to understand that about me and I guess he was following my example. I can honestly say that I don’t think I’m the greatest role model around, but in a town like this, I’m all Niall has got.
“So are you ready for school tomorrow then?” I asked, watching out the window of the truck. The sun was setting over the fields and Niall hummed a yes at me. Hopefully it wouldn’t be that bad at school. Maybe everyone would just go on with their own business.
One could only hope.
A/N: Short filler chapter for you guys. I wasn't really sure where I was going with this one, but hey, it's an update. The next one will be better I swear. =P
