Wasting no time James mounted his horse and rode northeast out of town toward Hartshead Pike. Unsure of what he would find there, James racked his brain. What could have had the man so shaken that he could barley speak?

Never before had he seen anything like it, not even in the archives of the order, yet here he stood examining the symbols carved into the ground. Hardened pools of red wax dotted the tips of the star where candles had long since expired.
James took a deep breath and closed his eyes. "Expergiscere" he said aloud feeling the rush of blood flow into his palm his hand began to shake as the eye emerged from its slumber. "Show me the purpose of these symbols." Touching his hand to the ground he was soon immersed in a trance.
The visions came to him in rapid succession. A figure dressed in a dark robe stood inside the ruins of the tower. With a long staff the wraith like being meticulously drew the large circle into the dirt, follow by the the star with each point melding smoothly into the outer shape. A line was drawn from point of the star cutting the the symbol in half, followed by a second line that formed an inverted cross. The robed figure lighted a candle at each point of the star and knelt down outside of the circle.
"I call upon thee oh great master of darkness, to open a gateway between our world and yours." Came the raspy voice of a man, that seemed to be near death.
The air began to vibrate as a circle of dark clouds began to form overhead. A gust of wind swirled around the man's feet filling his robe like a sail. In the center of the symbol hovering a few feet above the ground a rust colored orb appeared and began expanding until an elipse of fiery red opened to reveal the devil himself.
"Master I am your humble servant and I come to strike a deal with you." The figure choked out.
The elongated snout of the devil pressed close to the man's face and in a menacing voice "You dare summon me here? What would you possibly have to offer me?"
