Valerie knew that tone of voice when it came to Dylan. She knew that something happened between him and Lindsey. In her opinion, she wasn't particularly fond of the woman. For one, she was cheating on Dylan. Secondly: She dressed to slutty for her own good, and finally, she found Lindsey to be a controlling, conniving bitch that only thought about herself.
There have been times where Valerie wanted to beat the crap out of Lindsey for all of the things she's done, but because Dylan insisted her not to, she stayed put.
About thirty minutes passed by, and as she set down the large bag of Ruffles: Cheddar & Sour Cream down on the coffee table with Forrest Gump playing in the background on the television, Valerie heard a knock on her door.
Walking over, she unlocked the front entrance and saw Dylan standing in front of her with two pints of ice cream; one of Rocky Road while the other was French Vanilla.
Of course, he didn't listen.
Valerie looked at his eyes and saw that he was tearing up.
"What's wrong?" the young, 4'9" woman asked, stepping aside to let her tall best friend inside her humble abode.
Dylan sighed, stomping his way into the kitchen to set the pints of ice cream into the freezer.
He grabbed a bottle of root beer and took a sip. "Lindsey broke up with me."
"Wow." Valerie replied. She didn't say it in a sarcastic manner, she tried to sympathize her best friend. But deep down, she knew that their relationship would come to anend.
"Yeah," Dylan closed the refrigerator. "I was going to propose to her."
Valerie trotted up to her companion and wrapped her petite arms around him; holding him close as he rested his chin on top of her head. He then tilted his head to the side and began to cry; his tears trickeling down his face as the bottled up emotions came pouring down.
"It's okay, boo." Valerie said, rubbing his back as they embraced. The two individuals referred to each other as boo---it was something they just did.
After pulling away, Dylan looked into Valerie's eyes and for a brief moment, he felt like he could kiss her. But he decided against it. He just got dumped for crying out loud.
"Let's go watch Forrest Gump?" Valerie asked, snapping him out of his trance.
Dylan nodded. "Yeah, sure."
The two then sat down in the living room, tugging at the bowl of chips like they always did on their movie nights. It was just them.
And Dylan wouldn't change it for the world.
