The Breakup Girl // Prologue
Known as the Breakup girl, she's infamous for heralding breakups (even though that is her job description).
Ashica Jessley's reputed for being the harbinger of breakups and the like after having been the messenger for innumerable times. Many in Grant High dread the very appearance of Ashica, believing she's an ill omen.
Battling multiple problems at the same time, she finds herself paying no heed to what the others think of her. Yet there are those times when she wishes she wasn't treated like a pariah.
Like a caterpillar, she cocoons herself and struggles to emerge a butterfly. But will she succeed?

"Um, Stanley Pike?" I ask the boy in front of me.
"Yes, this is him," he says, indifference dripping from his tone.
"Shania sent you a message," I say, watching as his expression goes through a wide range before it seems to settle on an unstable balance of nervousness and joy.
His grey eyes light up as he suddenly begins to pay me more attention and I almost feel sorry for the boy. Pushing his brown messy hair back, he crosses his hands in front of him and leans against the wall, expectantly eyeing me while I take my guitar out of its cover, dig my pick out of my pocket and strum it for a bit.
A warm smile spreads across his face, probably thinking Delgato sent me to play him some cheesy love song. No, this is quite the opposite.
"I could get caught up in bitterness
But I'm not dwelling on this crazy mess
I found freedom in the ugly truth
I deserve the best and it's not you
Now I'm down on my knees, alone in the dark
I was blind to your game, you fired a shot in my heart
Took me to heaven and let me fall down
Now that it's over, I'm gonna carry on living for love."
His smile's still half there on his face as I finish on a crisp staccato note. Then confusion fills his face as he processes what he just heard. Then, the look of horror that should've been there from the start appears on his face.
"Shania sent me this?"
"Shania Delgato," I reply.
I turn away to give him a little privacy as he finally realizes what happened. Yes, Shania Delgato broke up with him, and through me. To give my hands something to do, I carefully put my guitar back in the cover and return my pick back to my pocket.
Another guy comes by and pats Stanley's shoulder. He whispers something in Stanley's ear, probably words of reassurance. When he sees me, his eyes light up in recognition.
"Hey, you're the breakup girl," he says.
Upon hearing him speak, Stanley looks at me and says, "Oh, you're that girl."
Yes, I am that girl. And that girl can hear the hatred in your voice, and wants to tell you that it's not her fault but she won't because she has no choice.
"Um, sorry," I mutter and walk away, but not before awkwardly patting Stanley Pike's shoulder.
I've gotten used to all the hate by now. People afraid to incur the hatred of the people they're breaking up with pay me to do the breaking up for them. Most pick some sort of breakup song and pick out parts of songs for me to sing. Some have me say the words, deliver a note or a card or something of the sort.
And it gives me great joy to see others' relationships fail because I don't have any (note the sarcasm?).
Eh, whatever, I'm the breakup girl-
My train of thought is interrupted by someone calling my name from somewhere behind me. I turn around and am face-to-face with Shania Delgato.
"So I heard he took it well," she asks more than tells me.
"Not that well," I mumble.
"Whatever. You did the job, and here's your payment," she says, handing over a wad of notes.
"Thank you," I reply.
She shrugs and walks away.
Then someone else calls me.
"Hey, I need you to break up with someone for me."
Great, more cash, I think, rolling my eyes. I start on my usual speech, which I can yell out even in my sleep now.
"First things first."

Hey yo! You started reading this story because it sounded interesting, I guess. Or something else. Either way, thank you for reading!
I'm warning you right away that this could contain cliched stuff as well as non-cliched stuff, so please don't be annoyed. Also, this might sound like some other book you've read, but I assure you it isn't- this is my own book, my own story and my own idea.
If you're wondering why her name hasn't come up yet, it's because I honestly haven't named her yet. If you have any suggestions, please comment below or PM me.
Anyways, thank you again for reading!
