Y/n's POV
What are you thinking about?" Five's husky voice snapped me out of my thoughts as I snuggled into his arms in his king-size bed, his fingers in my hair. It couldn't get enough of him. The physical attraction between us was insane, inexplicable, inimitable.
"I was wondering..." I hesitated. My heart still was pounding like crazy. I knew I couldn't keep my pregnancy a secret from him for much longer. It wasn't fair. I played a hundred different scenarios in my head, with Five being over the moon in some of them or completely furious and against it in others. But no matter the scenario, I knew what I wanted. "What do you think of having kids?"
"Kids?" I didn't see his face, but I could tell he was taken aback. "I've never really thought about it. Why?"
"Nothing. I was just curious," I quickly replied. I knew it wasn't right for me, but I freaked out again. It was all happening so fast, too fast.
"I like the idea of having a family with you, Y/n," Five said softly, grabbing my chin with his fingers and gently tilting my head back so our eyes locked. " I think we should first set the wedding date." He kissed the tip of my nose.
I propped myself on my elbows, resting my head on my hands, not breaking our eye contact. "Do you have a special date in mind?"
"How about next month?" he asked, dead serious, and I sat looking at him in disbelief.
"Next month?"
"Yeah, why not?" He adjusted himself on the bed to hold me in his arms, leaving a soft kiss on my arm as he whispered. "I can't wait to call you Mrs. Hargreeves."
"Well, technically I'm already a Hargreeves."
"You know what I mean." Five replied.
I felt a weird feeling feeling in my belly. Excitement. Happiest. Butterflies. I felt like the luckiest girl under the sun. It felt like I had everything. Sometimes I was afraid it was all just a dream, and I would wake up to the dire reality I had lived in just a couple weeks ago before. But it was happening for real. The feeling was real. Too real to ever recreate it. A love like this only happens once in a lifetime.
"Okay." I said, unable to fight the laughter of pure joy. Everything seemed so easy, so natural with Five, that I didn't even want to wait. I wanted to be his, officially and forever. "Let's get married in a month."
"Are you serious?" Five looked at me, surprised on his face.
"I am," I whispered, grinning as I kissed him. "I love you."
"I love you, too."
꧁---------------------------------------------꧂
The next couple of days were like paradise on earth. That media reported on my unexpected wedding to Five Hargreeves. We were the hot headlines of every newspaper and even got labeled as Romeo and Juliet. I couldn't care less. I felt like I was floating on a cloud of bliss. I'd never been happier in my entire life. We set the wedding date, and I dove into everything about the wedding. I managed to forget about my dark past, about all the dreadful things I'd been through, and I started to believe it all was finally behind me. Sometimes I felt melancholic because I haven't heard from some of my family. I managed to keep in touch with Jayme, Fei, and Sloane only. I felt like the rest abandoned me only because I was chasing my happiness. But then again. I had sisters, and Five, and they all made me feel like I was special. I thought Five was my blessing, my savior, and that I was about to create a new life by my dream man's side. Little did I know, it was the calm before the massive storm.
"What are you doing?" Five's voice rumbled against my ear as he slid his hands around my waist from behind and kissed my cheek.
"Getting dress. I'm going to be late for my meeting with my sisters," i replied, rummaging through the closet Five had arranged for me in one of the rooms.
"If you ask me, I like you most with nothing," Five teased, whispering to my ear.
"Five!" I laughed. His warm, attractive scent caused my body to tingle. "Your unbelievable"
He twirled my body so I could face him, his hand still on my waist, and I rested against the closet. We both smiled, looking into each other's eyes. "Can you blame me?" he rasped, his tone low and growly. "Your beautiful. Just a glimpse of you practically blind's me. And seeing you everyday makes it worth it." His hand roamed to the back of my neck, his touch burning against my skin, and he connected his lips or mine, giving me butterflies.
With one swift move, he pushed my body to hit the wall behind me so I trap. My whole body was aching for his touch, when my phone ringtone filled the room.
"Ugh," I growled, undone. "It's probably Jayme. I have to go."
"She can wait," Five whispered between are kisses not breaking it up.
I had to use every bit of willpower in me to resist him. I spun around and teasingly tapped the tip of his nose with my finger, "You have to wait for it, Mr. Hargreeves." I kissed Five's lips, and he growled as I freed myself from his embrace. I cleared my throat, reaching for my phone. "It's Jayme. Shit. Their already at the boutique." I turned to look at Five, who ran his fingers through his hair, breathing heavily.
"Are you going to leave me like this?"
"Yes." I chuckled. "I'm going to choose my wedding dress now with my sisters I haven't seen in weeks. This has to wait," I said teasingly.
"I can't wait for our wedding night." He walked toward me and put his hands on my cheek before leaning in and kissing my forehead.
"Me either." I smiled at him, and kissing him gently, murmured, "Can you drop me off at the boutique I don't want them to wait for long, and I'm already late."
Five let out a soft sigh, looking at me apologetically. "I can't, love. I'm sorry. I have some errands. But Zachary will drive you."
"No, it's fine," I said softly, but Five had already reached for his phone and dialed Zachary's number.
"Don't worry, sweetheart. I don't need him today. I'm going to see my family today for business," Five stated, his phone near his ear as he waited for Zachary to pick up. He winked at me reassuringly, and I knew it was pointless to object. Five was very protective over me, and I knew he would feel calmer knowing Zachary was with me. Besides, he liked to have things his way. Although, I didn't like the idea of having Zachary with me in the bridal shop. I get like it would be a little awkward. Five finished the conversation with Zachary and turned to me, kissing me forehead before he said, "Done. He's ready to take you there. Enjoy your day, soon-to-be Mrs. Hargreeves."
"Yeah, you too, Mr. Hargreeves," I replied, and Five stole a soft kiss before headed out of the closet.
I inhaled deeply, pulling myself together. I quickly put on a my black jacket on, and did my hair. I fixed my makeup and headed outside, where Zachary was already waiting for me.
LUCKILY THE BRIDAL BOUTIQUE I had booked myself an appointment at was located on 5th Avenue, so about ten minutes later, I greeted Sloane, Fie, and Jayme. As soon as we parked by the boutique and I stepped out of Zachary's SUV, Sloane face brightened up, and they ran toward me with their arms spread and a broad grin.
"Hello, sister." Fei pulled in for a friendly hug.
"Oh my God, I missed you so much." Sloane said softly.
"I missed you, too. All of you guys." I squeezed my sisters in my arms. It felt amazing to have them here with me after so many weeks. We stayed in constant touch, even though are father is strictly banned them from keeping in touch with me. But we didn't care, we voice chat, voice messaged, texted or voice called each other every now and then, but it wasn't the same. The video calls couldn't replace face-to-face meetings.
Sloane pulled away and looked at me, still grinning. "You look amazing, Y/n! New York does good things to you."
"You mean the legendary Five Hargreeves does good things to you." Jayme leaned to whisper so just me and Fei, Sloane could only here.
I blushed, chucking. "You have no idea."
We all giggled, and I let out a sigh of relief. I was so glad to see some of my family. "You look gorgeous, too, Sloane. This white dress suits you."
"Thanks, Y/n." She blushed. God, I missed her easygoing, positive attitude. ""So, tell me. Are you pregnant?"
"What?" My heart skipped a beat, and I looked at her with surprise and shock.
"Relax, she's kidding." Fei smiled.
"But you have to know that everyone all of are fans gossips about you and Five. Some even make bets whether you went nuts, you're pregnant, or the strange boy Five Hargreeves is forcing you to marry him." Sloane added.
I burst out laughing. "What? What?"
"What do you mean, why?" Jayme asked sarcastically. "You ran away from your engagement party to Ben just a couple of weeks ago, and a few weeks later, you're getting married to another man. Let's not forgot your twienty-nine and look like you're sixteen.
"It does sound crazy, doesn't it?" I furrowed my brows, feeling giddy.
"If you ask me, you lost your goddamn mind!" Jayme joked.
We all smiled and laughed. Suddenly, their facial expression changed, and their eyes grew wide as they gazed at something behind me. I turned around to check what they saw, I noticed Zachary walking around the car before standing right beside me. I instantly figured that they had to recognize him.
Zachary cleared his throat, his hands crossed on his abdomen as he spoke. "I'll be around. Call me when you're done, Miss Hargreeves."
Feeling awkward, I let out a quiet breath. "It's okay, Zachary. You're free to go."
"I'm sorry, Miss Hargreeves. I'm not allowed to leave. Boss's orders."
I rolled my eyes. "I swear Five is exaggerating now."
"Can't blame him." Zachary lowered his voice. "I would be, too." He nodded before he briefly glanced at Jayme, Fei and Sloane, who were watching us, hypnotized. "I'll wait in the car. Excuse me." He walked to the other side of the car and got in.
I turned to look at Jayme. She raise her brow, her arms crossed. "Why the hell is your ex-boyfriend your bodyguard now?"
"He works for Five," I admitted.
"Does he know?" Jayme watched me, frowning. I knew she wouldn't judge me. After all, she'd always been the one with crazy ideas , yet I couldn't help but feel judged.
"You mean that Zachary was my first boyfriend?" Jayme shook her head yes. "No I didn't tell him." My gaze dropped down.
Fei signed. "Y/n, why didn't you tell him?"
"It's... complicated. Five values Zachary. He treats him like a brother. I didn't want to ruin that. Besides, that part of my relationship with Zachary is in the past. It was just a teenager crush."
"If you say so." Sloane took a deep breath, putting her hand around my arm. "Let's go get you a beautiful wedding dress." She smiled and pushing all of us, and we entered the boutique.
I was enchanted by the sophisticated design of the bridal salon, with a red carpet running through a tasteful white interior. An element lady in her forties greeted me and my sisters a lovely smile, offering Jayme, Fei and Sloane a seat on a grayish padded chair with golden legs while she led me to the fitting room where I was supposed to try on the wedding dresses. I get like a princess wearing the stunning white gowns, and butterflies were dancing in my belly at the thought of me walking down the aisle toward the man I had irreversibly fallen in love with. I tired a couple of different types of wedding dresses, from lavish ball gowns to unpretentious sheaths. All of them were unique and splendid, but only one of them had stolen my heart.
"Wow," Sloane whispered. Her hands over her mouth with pure shocked. Jayme eyes grew wider as I came out of the fitting room in a Rhiannon mermaid gown from Galia Lahav's Queen of Hearts collection with a low neckline, pearl detailing at the back, and sheer long sleeves and beaded lace.
"You look stunning, Y/n. That's the one." Fei said breaking the silence.
"That's that one," I agreed, smiling as I twirled around.
꧁--------------------------------------------꧂
That evening, I was preparing dinner, smiling to myself as I lit the candles in the dining room and decorated with red rose petals on the floor. I was ready to tell Five about the pregnancy, and I wanted the evening to have a special charm. I prepared his favorite food, bought a bottle of boradeaux, and was anticipating him coming back home. Our home. I was a little nervous but also excited. I checked the time on my phone. It was six thirty p.m Five was running late because usually, he's be back by now. I went to the bathroom to fix my makeup for the fiftieth time. I wanted to look good. Perfect. I wore a black off-shoulder dress with long see-through puff sleeves and painted my lips red, leaving my hair down. I glanced at my engagement ring glittering on my finger and smiled. I heard a bell ring and ran straight to open the door. Although, I found it odd that Five used the doorbell because he'd never done that before. However, I was too excited to check who it was. I assumed it was my fiancé.
I opened the door, and my enthusiasm level went down. "Zachary?" I looked at him, puzzled.
"Y/n, we need to talk," he said, his tone serious.
I frowned. My eyes darted between his. I got a little scared that something had happened to Five, and my heart started pounding rapidly. An unpleasant lump formed in my throat. "Okay. Come on in."
Zachary walked in, and for a second, he seemed taken aback as he scanned the room, prepared for a romantic dinner. His gaze dropped to the ground before he turned to me, setting his eyes on mine.
"What is it, Zachary?" I asked impatiently, playing out the worst possible scenarios in my head.
"I can't keep doin' this." he whispered, shaking his head as his brow furrowed.
"Doing what?" I narrowed my eyes, my fingers fidgeting.
"I can't keep pretending' that you don't mean anything to me. That you and me... that there was nothin' between us."
"Zachary, but—"
"I know you're off-limits." He rubbed his temples with his fingers. I felt lost and awkward. I genuinely believed it was all behind us, all in this past. "I know you're with him. And I know I don't stand a change. I mean, what kind of woman would refuse someone like Five Hargreeves? Rich and powerful, I can't compete with that."
"Zachary, you know it's never been about money or power for me. I didn't, and I don't care about it."
"I know, Y/n. I know," he said softly, moving closer toward me, looking piercingly into my eyes. "And I know you should be with him. I know he would make you happy, but I..." He paused as if contemplating his words before he let out a deep sigh. "I can't forget about you. And when I saw the engagement ring on your finger, something broke in me."
"What are you saying? Please don't do that." I shook my head, scanning his face, hoping it was just a bad joke.
"I can't. I'm sorry." He let out a heavy breath, running his fingers through his hair before setting his gaze back on mine, his brows furrowed. "I can't because I never stopped lovin' you. I still love you, Y/n."
I was rooted to the spot, and Zachary grabbed my hands in his and started leaning in as if waiting to kiss me. I couldn't move. I was completely shocked and overwhelmed.
Then I heard Five's raspy voice hissing behind me, and my heart skipped a beat. "Don't. Or I'll put a bullet in your head right on the spot," Five rasped through his clenched teeth as he put his gun to Zachary's temple. His eyes were filled with hatred and fury that it scared me. Five cocked the gun, and my body started shaking, and I felt like I was losing the ground beneath me. That was not how he was supposed to find out about my past relationship with Zachary. Instantly regretted not telling Five the truth earlier because now everything was crumbing around me. Five's trust for me, for Zachary, maybe even our love. I fucked up.
"Y/n, step back," Five commanded, his gaze never leaving Zachary.
"Five, please let me explain." My voice was breaking, and my body was trembling. It felt like my knees had turned to jelly, and I could barely keep standing.
"I said, step back," he hissed. His voice was so cold that it sent icy shivers down my spine. "Well, Zachary. What did you just say to my fiancée?"
Zachary stood still like a statue. He didn't even blink. He just kept staring at me with regret all over his face until he finally said, "I'm love with her."
