Y/n's POV
I chatted with Allison mostly about Five and her brothers. She had so much love for them, and I could tell she was an incredible woman full of grace and charm, but also can always get her way. She told me a few stories from her childhood and how she always wanted to be a mother and how she's raising her own daughter name Claire. She said after her father passed away, she because very mature and responsible and stayed that way ever since. She even's mentioned Five, how he was also distant and closed with himself and that he had never seen him shed a tear. She joked he had been a tough man since he was a little boy.
"Ladies," Luther's voice rumbled from behind, I turned back to see him walking alongside with the rest of his brothers. "Please, take your seats. Let's eat."
Allison led me toward the vast table in the middle of the beautiful patio decorated with flowers and candles and a variety of food. Five pulled a chair for me, and despite a polite smile, I noticed something dark in his eyes.
"Is everything okay?" I whispered, scanning his face as I took a seat.
"Yes, don't worry," he replied, sitting beside me. He grabbed my hand and squeezed it in his, and we shared a brief look.
"It's the first time Five's brought a woman to our home that's actually alive," Klaus commented, a genuine grin on his face, but I seemed more confused with what he meant by that. "He have never introduced us to any other woman before. You must be special to him, Y/n , have him under a spell."
Diego cleared his throat, clearly not being content with his brother's remark. I was aware he disapproved of my relationship with his brother because of who I was—his sworn enemy's daughter. I bet he'd rather have me dead than date his brother. I wondered what he told and Five and the rest of his brothers when they went to talk in private. I assumed he reprimanded Five, trying to convince him we were a bad idea.
"Five!" A girlish voice caught everyone's attention. All at the same time, we turned to see a beautiful girl with raven-black hair running toward Five. Her dark-drown eyes were beaming with excitement as she threw herself into Five's arms.
"Hey, little one," he greeted her with a warm hug and a gentle kiss on her prominent cheek. For the first time, I saw Five smiling genuinely. His face brightened as he looked at the girl I assumed must've been Claire, Allison's daughter. The girl looked like Allison, two peas in a pod. Both had the same lovely smile and stunning beauty. "How have you been, hm?" Five asked, holding her hands in his.
"I missed you!"
"I missed you, too." He smiled. The sight was so heartwarming I couldn't fight a broad grin forming on my face. "I want you to meet someone, okay?"
The girl nodded, blushing as she peeked at me.
"Claire, this is Y/n. Y/n, this is Claire." Five introduced us to each other, and I reached my hand to greet her.
"Hey, Claire. Nice to meet you."
"Nice to meet you too." She smiled before switching her attention back to her uncle, whom she clearly adored. "So she's your girlfriend?"
Five turned to peek at smirking as if to check in with me. We had never talked about it. We kind of... just happened. "Yes. Y/n is my girlfriend." He focused his gaze back on the lovely girl.
"Oh, I know," Five answered before smiling at her, and which she smiled back. It was so sweet to watch.
"Come, honey, join us. We're about to eat." Allison pulled the chair for Claire next to her.

THE EVENING WAS PASSING BY in a surprisingly lovely atmosphere, mainly thanks to Viktor's charm . It felt like he was bringing so much joy to the Hargreeves family, and knowing the real, dark side that being a Hargreeves entailed, I must admit, him and Klaus was handling their role as the brothers to a toxic family, so Allison says. Nonetheless, I didn't fully understand back then what it meant to be a sibling of a powerful family, more powerful than my family probably. I was only about to find out now as it was just the beginning of my story. I was just exploring the tip of the iceberg. To his point, their lives seemed normal to me. We had an enchanting dinner and mainly chatted about funny childhood family stories, just like ordinary people. And that misled me into believing that was what their lives looked like. In the meantime, Claire got bored with our conversation and excused herself to her room, before she left, Diego have his niece a hug, shocking me with a vestige of humanity in him I'd assumed didn't exist.
"Y/n," Diego started after taking a sip of the red wine. "We keep talking about our family. Maybe you would tell us something about yourself?"
Five adjusted himself on his seat, drinking his wine in one go. I could tell he didn't feel
comfortable having Diego around him.
"I told you already. I'm a member of the Sparrow Academy, the eighth child. There's nothing much more to tell, Mr. Hargreeves," I replied, reaching for the glass of wine, but I didn't drink. I wrapped my fingers around the stem to keep my hand busy. It was my way of coping with my nerves.
"Diego," he corrected me.
"Diego," I repeated, nodding. I couldn't get used to calling him by his first name. For some reason, it didn't sit right with me. Unlike Allison and Viktor, with whom I had no issue chatting as if we'd known each other for ages. "Besides I'm sure you know more about me than I do myself, Diego," I added with pure sarcasm oozing with me, and I could swear I saw a tiny trace of a smile forming in the corners of the emotionless man's mouth. Did I impress him?
"Now I see what my brother sees in you, Miss Hargreeves," Diego retorted.
"Y/n," I corrected him, a satisfied smirk curled up on my lips.
"Y/n," he reiterated, the smile broadened on his face. He took a long sip of the wine. "So, Y/n, I've heard your father is Sir Reginald, is that correct?" He looked at me as if he was waiting to beat me in the game of chess we were playing.
"Yes, that's right," I stated, suddenly feeing oddly uneasy.
"Did you know we knew your father years ago?" His eyes screamed checkmate, but I wasn't quite sure why.
"No, I didn't know," I said softly, realizing Five had never told me anything about him meeting my father, and I didn't pressure him to talk about him to because I thought it was just something too immature or even painful for him. I didn't want to pry, and I didn't want him to relive anything again.
I started linking the dots in my head. All I knew was that my father warned me and my siblings about them despite not knowing the main reason why. I thought it was just a whim of my fathers to play with the Hargreeves family nerves, but now I wasn't sure. Was it possible my father had something to do with their family, and that was why they became enemies?
"We should get going." Five's cold tone snapped me out of my thoughts. His sudden change of heart only added late. "It's getting late. It's been a long day. I'm sure Y/n is exhausted after the flight."
"Of course." Diego sent Five a mischievous smirk before raising the glass of wine as if to toast before he took yet another long sip of it, his eyes fixed on Five's. Suddenly, the atmosphere became to tense you could cut it with a knife, and there was something eerie in the air, something that sent chills down my spine.
"Thank you for coming for the lovely evening." I said, breaking in on the building, invisible tension between the two dangerous men.
"The pleasure is all ours." Allison eased the dark looming tenseness with her voice. "We'll see you tomorrow at the event."
"Of course." I smiled. "Good night."
I WATCHED FIVE driving his car with overwhelming darkness in his eyes. He's never been the type to show much affection, but he'd never been so cold and distant either. I recalled the past events to a moment when his behavior had changed. It was precisely when Diego touched upon the topic of my father and the name we share. I observed his face, inch by inch, as if looking for a clue. A clue that would help me figure out if it was because it brought up the memories of my father or if I had meaning to his story. I had a sneaking suspicion that it was the latter, especially that Diego mentioned that, and knowing the man he was, he did everything for a reason.
"What is it, Y/n?" Five asked, his gaze still focused on the road. I was amazed he knew I was watching him without even looking in my direction to check.
"Why?" I asked, still scanning his face. That man was like an unraveled mystery to me.
"You keep watching me." His lips curled into a soft smile. "You can ask me."
"Ask you what?" I frowned. I was slightly annoyed that he could read me like an open book while I couldn't figure him out.
"Whatever it is that you want to ask."
"How do you know I want to ask you something?"
"You do that whenever you have a question, but you're not entirely sure if it's okay to ask."
"Do what?" I leaned back, taking a better look at the man who analyzed me.
"You watch me." He glanced at me with a faint smile. "As if looking for a clue."
I raised my brows, amazed and annoyed because he was right.
I cleared my throat, hesitant. "I'm wondering what happened to your father. You never told me about him."
Five took a heavy breath, his eyes on the road, but I could see his pain on his face.
"He abandoned me and my family," he said dryly, and I instantly regretted asking.
"I'm so sorry, Five. I shouldn't ha—"
He cut me off, peeking at me briefly, pressing his lips together into a forced smiled, his voice soft. "It's okay, Y/n." He switched his attention back on the road. " It's a heavy topic. Let's not spoil the rest of the evening. The night is still young.
I swallowed the lump that had formed in my throat at the thought of what Five and his family had to go through. Not to mention I was even more confused by than before asking the question. Why would Five's father abandon him and his family? As far as I was concerned, how did they they know my father? Maybe their father knew mine?
I smiled back at Five and his face brightened up. I was glad I managed to make him smile. He grabbed my hand, squeezing it in his, and we drove back to his penthouse, surrounded by the gleaming lights of Manhattan.
I decided to have two Question of the Day for today . Yayyy 🎉🎉
