⇉ Chapter Six
One thing I really, really hated were crowded places and something that I could have possibly hated more than that, parties. Nothing could be worse than drunk hormonal idiots trying to push themselves against you and smell like three pigs in a pit.
What was double the worst of it is trying to get out of it, it's like going through thirty eight levels of hell.
So what do you do when you're surrounded by twitchy girls who have been rejected 2845 times and their 39 boyfriends later?
(24th September, Wednesday)
"You have to come with!" Mia said, her hands scanning through all the possible dresses that I've had in my wardrobe for years and never wore.
"I am not going to a place full of drunks," I argued, spinning around in my chair by the window. I enjoyed looking out at the clear sky, I enjoyed nature in general and I was also the type of person who ruined it by smoking. The irony.
"Oh come on, we're going to be there with you," she whined, twirling her hair and then going back to turn my closet into a mess.
"Yeah, right, that's what you always guys say and then I end up standing my the side with a random douche trying to hit on me," I grumbled, narrowing my eyes at her tiny profile.
"Touche."
Two hours later and I am standing in front of that huge red door, the pretty big house and you know, the usual snotty rich kid who throw's the party opens the door and wiggle his eyes, Blah. Blah. That stuff happened.
And of course the pathetic smell of alcohol, puke and sweat greeted us, yes. That too. What didn't happen was me entering in the very gorgeous, but to short red tight dress, because that was something I would never do. I was in my usual attire; black heels, dark blue ripped leggings topped with a dark jean skirt and a black high neck tank.
Like Mia said she's tagging along, do you think she did? Of course not. It's a party, there are boys who in this world needs me right now. I pushed through the laziness and sweaty boys and went up the stairs directly, I didn't even want to risk drinking water in here.
The first room to the right was the one that I picked to sit in after Mia was done and of course, Wendy and Gwen who were possibly going to be in this as well. What a day full of possibilities and probabilities.
"David?" I gasped, as soon as I was inside and the door behind me was shut.
Running over to his side, I placed my palm on his chest, "are you all right?"
He opened his eyes slowly and said, "Yeah, I'm fine," he said, blinking and then looking at me weirdly. Damn, he had pretty long eyelashes. I was jealous.
"I didn't take you as one who would worry," he said, closing his eyes again and crossing his buff arms behind is mop of mousy curls.
"I don't, just don't need murder on my hands. I am already a disappointment to my dad," I grumbled, stretching my legs in front of me and lying on my back right next to him.
"To your dad?" He laughed and then got serious, "your mom would always be by your side, she loves you too much," he said, turning to look at me and smiling a little bit.
"Yeah, right. I don't even want to talk about her." I groaned, turning to the side so that my back faces him.
"Is everything all right at home?" he asked, placing his hand on my shoulder. I stiffened and he took it off.
"Everything's dandy."
"Okay."
It was silent, the only thing that could be heard was our breathing. His deep breaths and shallow intake of air was heavier and louder than mine, it was almost like he was nervous.
"Are you nervous?" I asked, turning to look him in the eye I gave him a slight smile.
It was funny how much I wanted to win this bet and how easy it was for me because I didn't have to act, just a little bit here and there. It was easy to be with him. It was easy to be genuine and not pretend to be anybody else.
"A little bit."
"Why are you nervous?"
"You scare me," he said, letting out a breath.
First, I frowned and then I looked at how serious he was and laughed.
"What? Why?" I asked, my laughter subsiding to chuckle.
"You kissing me, it scares me."
"Oh.."
"I meant that in the best way possible," he mumbled, looking away.
"That was an insult," I spat, narrowing my eyes to nothing in particular.
"I didn't mean to insult you. It just scares me the way you make me feel."
I look at him and he looks back at me, and I asked, "How do I make you feel?"
"Wild and Fresh, and you make me want to take huge risks. You always surprise me with how bold and straightforward you are. You're just like a package, you never know what's inside until you open it and I am scared to open it because I don't know what will that do to me." he said, still looking up. His cheeks tainted a slight red.
I didn't say anything. I didn't know what to say, so I just brought his hand to mind and held it between us.
"Don't be scared of me, please."
"I'm not as bold as you are."
"You don't have to be," I say, looking at his emerald green eyes. They were so light right now, I wanted to keep looking at them, but I couldn't afford that. I couldn't afford to look at him like that and do this to myself.
"Okay."
"Are you still scared?" I asked.
"I think I will always be scared."
"Can I kiss you right now?" I asked, looking at him. His eyes went wide, his cheeks tainting pink and I smiled back at him.
Giving me a small nod, I leaned closer to him and placed my lips firmly on his. Lifting my hand from his, I placed it on his chest and his hands stayed on my waist, making me climb over him and move my lips out of line a little bit. I giggled.
"You're sloppy," I said.
He blushed and mumbled and apology.
"No, it's okay. I like it," I laughed and kissed him again, this time quicker.
He blushed a shade darker and I just laughed.
"You're laughing an awful lot today, Alaska," he said, smiling up at me. I blushed, slapping my hands to my cheeks.
"I'm sorry," I said.
"Don't be, I like it when you laugh and what is that that I see? Alaska blushes?" he gasped, moving my hands and caressing my cheek.
"Well, you seem bold," I muttered.
"Yeah..."
"I think we should get going, I need to find Mia, Wendy and Gwen. It's like midnight right now or something," I said, getting off his lapping and arranging my tank.
"It's actually three in the morning right now," he stated, raising his eyebrow that disappears into the frame of his glasses.
"What?" I shriek and bolt for the door with his hand in mine, pulling him with me.
"What's the matter? Curfew?"
"No! I can't believe I stayed here so long and I have this silly project that I have to complete for tomorrow. Who even throws parties on weekdays?" I grumbled, skipping down the stairs.
"Wow, slow down. I might stumble and fall," he said, sounding breathless.
I don't know why, but when I was with him I didn't feel like I had to wear a mask or shield myself from anything. It's like he was harmless, but at the same time. I think that I have figured by now that he will be the only person who will be able to hurt me and I will have to keep it strictly on the game rules. I can't let this get further than the bet can take me or him, or us.
"Okay, do you know Wendy? Tall with small framed glasses and tiny nose. The blonde on with gray eyes?" I asked, waiting for him to say something and he just gave me a nod. So I sent him off to look for her and I went to look for Gwen and Mia who were a bigger problem than Wendy alone, I told him to wait for me by the huge red wooden door once he finds her.
Spotting Mia's brown curly bob and huge blue eyes, I walked up to her and poked her on her shoulder.
"Oh, sweetheart," she screeched smiling at me, and I winced as she squealed and placed her arm around my shoulder, "let's get you a drink."
"Na-ah, sweetheart," I said, returning the gesture and putting both my arms around her waist, pulling her from the group of guys that were shamelessly ogling her. Perverts.
"We're taking you home,"
"But I don't want to go home!" she whined, tears forming in her eyes. Oh no.
"I am not asking you," I told her and then continued, "I am telling you."
She continued to protest and wave her hands around, but I held her firmly. I just had to find Gwen now, but as I walked to the red door, I already spotted all the three that would complete my whole world right now.
"Finally," I grumbled.
"I figured this one was your baggage too," David said, pointing at a dozing Gwen. Wow. Why can't any of the three control themselves? How much more mainstream can this situation get?
"Let's just get them home," I mumbled, pretty exhausted and then turned back to look at him. I tried not to laugh at how he was trying to carry out Wendy and Gwen at the same time and asked, "Do you need a ride home too?"
"Nope. All right, just shove them both into my car and you are all free to leave from this disaster," I grimaced, trying to force a smile onto my face.
"How about I take Wendy? Just give me her address," and I couldn't reject his offer, I have noted down what he asked for and let Wendy off with him after he helped Gwen and Mia into my little blue jeep.
Physics was one of my most favorite classes, after History and Political Science, of course. Unfortunately, I did not have those this year.
The teacher went on and on about how the gravitational pull increases as you approach the speed of life. Now, I understood that the importance of physics and it's law of everything and the importance that it has provided to us. What I did not understand was that why would someone or even a certain thing would try and approach the speed of light anyway?
"Did everyone understand what I was trying to explain or do you want me to do it again?" The teacher asked.
Mr. Swell was very young and handsome, it did not help that he was married. Honestly, pitied the poor guy and how gravity suddenly increased when he approached our glass. The girls literally swooned.
"Alaska, would you mind telling me if anything can be as fast as the speed of light?"
I stood up and for a second thought about how I should frame my answer right and then answered, "Nothing can be exact to the speed of light, only mass-less things can travel at the speed of light. The rest can only be faster or slower."
"Well explained in simple words, no wonder you have done so well in your previous paper and the paper before that. I appreciate your effort with this subject," he said smiling and I smiled back. The girls sent me death glares, but I was Alaska and so what did you think I do? Yes. I ignored them because they all weren't even worth my time.
"You may sit now, Alaska," Mr. Swell asked, and I politely nodded.
Before I could sit the bell rang and everyone scurried off.
"Alaska and Mr. Green, may I please have a word with you two?" he called out.
"Sure," I mumbled and approached his dark desk.
"Daniel, you're poorly failing this class and I am very, very disappointed. Alaska, since you're the best in class and you definitely need credit for Math, I am sorry but I have no other choice but to ask you to-"
No! I screamed in my head. Don't say it! Please don't say it!
"tutor Daniel for this class." I could feel Daniel's smirk without even looking at his face.
My heart dropped, he said it.
