Chapter 2: Three Years Later
He stopped by my apartment again. He took a seat and I took mine. Fidget jumped on him, sniffing him as he always did then went back on my shoulder.
I smiled. "Didn't expect you so soon, Tony."
He cracked a smile. "You still remind me of your father."
Tony Gonzales, he was a very close friend of my Father's. He was practically like an uncle to me, but now he's just a business partner.
"So what do you got for me?"
"Some good one's, actually."
He pulled out a set of cards. Then he laid them in front of me and spread them out. I whistled another tune as I stared at each card, one by one. A few cards started to vibrate and move toward me. I picked them up and looked through the cards, reading the descriptions one by one. This is how I pick them, the cards are like baseball cards. They had the person's name and everything about the person, relationships, ages, anything. It's a modern technology invention that some scientists invented. This makes it more simpler to know more about the person, like looking up someone's bibliography in the Internet.
"You picked 10 this time?" He asked. "You're getting picky."
"I am not." I protested. "You're just bad at picking them."
"Fine, be like that Melody." He said. "I'll meet you next week, correct?"
I snorted. "Nah, I'll finish by Friday."
He whistled. "You're that confident?"
"You have that much faith in me?"
"Touche."
"Thank you."
He chuckled to himself. "You dad would have killed me if he'd know what you're doing."
I sighed. "I'm 19, I can do this blindfolded."
He stood up. "Just be careful out there, Melody. You too Fidget."
Fidget chattered at him and wrapped his tail around me like a scarf.
Then he left my apartment. I went to my my room. I changed into my uniform. It consist of a black sports bra and a fishnet sleeveless hoodie, with fingerless gauntlets that came up to my elbows. I wore a black shorts with a skirt apron strapped around it that went to my thighs. I sheathed a small dagger than my mom passed to me. I never want to use it, I have a hatred to knives and swords ever since their death. I wore black boots with buckles, boots with shoelaces would be a burden. I opened a small chest and pulled it out. My mask.
My mask is my life. It's the thing that masks my identity, it hides my tattoo or else I would be known. It was a beautiful hand-made mask I bought in a shop when I was passing a city. It's custom made, I asked the shopkeeper to make for me. It's made of music sheets, it painted black at parts with gold embroidered around it.
I put it on and whistled for Fidget. His tail swished side from side, the scar from that night was still there. He never liked it so it's now covered with the tattoo I have by my eye. The scar has been sealed away from my tattoo symbol. He hopped into my hoodie, him being so light, I wouldn't be bothered by him. I opened my window and jumped out.
I watched from the chandelier as Mr. Raposa ate with his henchmen around the dining table. I wrinkled my nose in disgust, his hideout smells worst than a dump. I have no clue how they can stand the smell as they ate Chinese take-out.
I counted, about 6 of them including Mr. Raposa. I smiled to myself, this is going to be easy. Now let me think, musical, quick and painless, slow and agonizing? I pulled out my flute, and played a slow tune. They didn't do anything, probably thought it was some street musician playing. Their movements started to slow down, they chews slower, talked slower too. But they didn't notice it either, wow how clueless are they?
I slipped down to the ground and behind Mr. Raposa's chair.
He asked as he chewed, "Hey Rickey? How was business at the airport."
One of them stopped eating and replied, "Not bad actually. I made a great bargain and payed half the original price."
"Good, good." He said. "The drugs better be as good as they say they are."
Ugh, drugs. I will never touch that stuff ever, it will mess up my life. Big time.
"Man, I can't wait until I get my hands on that stuff." One of the henchmen laughed.
"Save some for the black market, will ya Joe?" Another replied.
Everyone burst out laughing. I saw my chance. I made the finger gun hand gesture, and pointed it directly to Mr. Raposa's ear.
"Woah, woah, who's that?" Rickey asked.
Mr. Raposa, "What the-"
But I cutted him off. "Good night."
I flicked my thumbs down, and a small, but powerful sound wave traveled from my finger tips through his ears. Meet my sound guns. His ears popped and blood poured out, his brains were smashed from my sound waves. Mr. Raposa slumped forward, his face smashed into his take out. You shouldn't play with your food.
At the sight of this, one of the henchmen ran away. Coward.
Joe pulled out a switch blade. "Why you little killer, what have you done with our boss?"
I raised an eyebrow. "Do you not see the dead dude?"
"Tryin' to be smart with me, eh?"
"Well it doesn't really take that much effort." I muttered.
"That's it."
He charged at me as I stood there with a smirk on my face. their movement s are slower, I can kill them in a flash. I easily dodged his first swing then I used the sound gun again, he flew backwards and crashed to the floor. Joe tried to get up, but he fell back to the floor groaning. Weakling.
Then Rickey charged at me and swung at me. Fidget jumped on him, Rickey screamed cursing at Fidget to get off of him. Fidget wrapped his tail around Rickey's neck. Then I heard a snap and Rickey crumpled to the floor, Fidget's tail is quite strong.
This time two henchmen teamed up against me.
I pouted innocently. "Two against one? That's unfair."
"Uh..." one of them muttered.
The other slapped the back of his' head. "Idiot, let's kill her already."
They both surrounded me. The first threw a right hook but I ducked then kicked him in the stomach. Then the other tried to punch me, but I kick one of his legs and he fell down. Both of them stood up again, they charged at me. I triggered the shotgun at one of their ears, he groaned and tumbled down. Clutching his bleeding ear. The other pulled out a real gun and pointed it to me.
"That's right missy, stay where you are."
I rolled my eyes. Sure, like I'm in the mood to skip away right now.
He clicked the safety trigger. Ooh, now you can shoot, I'm so scared. He just stood there, as if he was hesitating. You should be wondering. Why am I NOT freaking out right now? There is this gun pointing at me, and can blow my head off! But I've been in this situation many times, and they always end badly. Badly for the person holding the gun I mean.
I sighed. "Are you going to pull the trigger or what?"
"What?"
"I don't have all day, I have things to do, people to kill."
"You're pretty cocky aren't you?"
I shrugged. "I've been doing this for 3 years now, sue me."
"As if."
"Have you ever used a gun before?"
He snorted. "Yeah."
"Then shoot."
"Why should I?"
"Why shouldn't you?"
"Look, I don't want to shoot a defenseless kid, Okay?"
"I'm 19, and I'm not defenseless." I pulled out my violin.
He burst out laughing. "What are you going to do? Play me a song?"
"Yeah, I call this the 'Goodbye Song'."
"For who? You?"
"No, for you."
I played the violin, my hands naturally playing it for me. The guy gasped as his hand pointed the gun to himself.
"N-No please, I'll do anything."
"Anything?"
"Y-yes, please."
I stopped playing on the final note. One more inch and he could have pulled the trigger on himself.
Fidget ran up to me, and climbed into my hoodie. "Get a life, a better one. Become more honest, cut off all your ties from this life. Do you understand?"
"Yes, I-I will."
"Good, now leave the scene before the police come."
"Thank you. Thank you so much."
"Don't mention it. Ever."
He ran to the exit then stopped. "Who are you?"
I looked out the open window.
"I'm known as the Masked Musician."
The I shifted into my sound form, and followed my voice as it traveled out the window. Then I shifted back to my regular and escaped into the night.
Tony whistled. "You're getting quick. You sure you covered your tracks."
I snorted, he knew the answer to that already.
"Hey, don't kill me for watching out for you."
"Yeah, yeah, thanks Tony."
He tossed me a suitcase. "Your payment as promise."
I opened it up revealing about 50 thousand bucks. I counted it once and counted it twice. Just to find out if someone's cheating my price. I smiled, that rhymes.
I petted Fidget, "First I'm buying you something to eat. Up for it Fidge?"
He nuzzled my neck, he's always up for food.
"See you next time, and be safe." Tony said.
"Got it, you sound like my dad."
"I'm the closest thing you got as family, I got to keep you safe."
"Yes Uncle Tonyyy," I said, like I was 6 again.
He laughed. "Goodbye Melody."
"Later."
Then he close the door behind me. I looked at the money again.
"Hey Fidget, you think you're up for a vacation?"
Fidget yipped, agreeing with me.
"How does Miami sound?" I said with a grin.
Hey, what's up? How did you like my second chapter. Melody's finally does some action, kicking some henchmen. Any of my friends of mine who are reading this, thanks sooo much. I love you all. And Mr. Raposa is some teacher in my school that my friends say is mean, so what did I do. I put him in my book and killed him of.
Bwah, ha ha. I can be so evil sometimes.
'Till Next Time,
