Chapter 10
You woke up with tears streaming down your face. How could anyone be that cruel? It made no sense to you. Sure, everyone had their moments, and there was no doubt we all at some point had tried to kill someone in our head, but no one would kill that many people in cold-blood, let alone a baby.
You took in your surroundings quickly, checking to make sure you were not still in that awful place.
Your eyes widened as you saw that you were indeed engulfed in darkness. But then you saw a small silhouette of what looked like a student in a chair beside the bed that you were in. Bed...? Curtains? Other surronding beds that all seemed to glow white under the moon's light...? You came to a conclusion; Hospital Wing.
The dream was still fresh in your mind as you began to close your teary eyes once again. You shivered at the thought of that man. Was that him? The He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named everyone kept on talking about?
You let out a strangled sob as you sat up and hugged your knees against your chest.
"...(Y/N)?" a groggy voice asked.
You nearly jumped out of your skin. Instead, your leg jerked and you kneed yourself in the chin.
You swore.
The apparent sleeping figure from before stood up. You examined the student's frame.
"Are you okay?" it was a male voice.
"...Harry?" you asked tentatively, "Is that you?"
"Yeah," Harry responded inbetween a yawn, "I was here all night..."
You furrowed your eyebrows. "Oh, Harry, you shouldn't have done that! Why did you?"
"I...uhmmm...well...actually, it's been three nights."
"HARRY JAMES POTTER, WHY HAVE YOU BEEN KEEPING VIGIL HERE FOR THREE NIGHTS? Have you been going to class? Are you okay? You've been eating, right?"
"Woah, (Y/N), I should be the one asking you all those questions," Harry chuckled, "Considering you're the one in the Hostpital Wing."
You became silent and stared at the bed sheets.
"What happened, anyways?" Harry asked, breaking the silence, "You woke up in a cold sweat."
The dream came rushing back to you. You held back a choked cry and you remembered the vacant expression on Lily Potter's face. The tears were now dry and sticky on your face, but more were threatening to fall again as you thought of all that this boy standing beside you had lost that night.
"...(Y/N)?"
"I'm sorry, Harry," you whispered.
"(Y/N)? Whatever are you sorry for?" Harry laughed.
You did not respond.
Shortly, you felt a weight beside you as the bed creaked, and you assumed Harry had just sat down beside you. Sure enough, you leaned more towards your left, only to have your head make contact with a shoulder. Not thinking twice, you buried your face in his shoulder. You felt Harry slightly tense, then relax. A warm hand was suddenly on your back, pulling you closer to him.
"What is it?" Harry asked softly, all trace of amusement gone from his voice.
"I'm sorry," you repeated, sitting up so Harry could hear you, "Sorry that you had to go through all that. I'm sorry that you grew up without parents. It must be terrible, being famous for something that you could have never expected, something that you didn't want to happen..."
Harry was now quiet.
"And I just want you to know that I'll always be here for you," you continued, "I don't want to be your friend just because you're famous because of some douche who decided he wanted to go on a killing spree. I want to continue learning about the Harry that no one sees, the one that hardly anyone cares about. I want to know about your personal struggles, and who's arse I have to kick. I want to know your favourite foods and some weird habit you have. I want to be your genuine friend, and always have your back."
There was still no sound coming from the boy sitting beside you.
You began to slightly panick. "I'm sorry, did I go too far? Ohhhh I always do that, trusting people too easily, being too affectionate and protective, I'm so sor-"
You were cut off as Harry pulled you into a bone-crushing hug.
"I'd like to be your genuine friend too." came a voice that sounded slightly choked up. You felt a few tears soak into your shirt.
The two of you stayed like that for a while, just hugging, silently supporting each other.
Harry was the one to break the silence yet again.
"I never did answer your question..." he mumbled into your shirt, "The reason why I stayed here was because I was worried about you."
You were extremely touched.
"Thank you, Harry," you whispered back.
He was still hugging you, and it didn't feel like he was going to let go anytime soon. So you simply smiled and snuggled further, thanking everyone you knew that you had an amazing friend like Harry.
