Tell The Truth

The next day Danny was walking with Ron and Hermione to Hagrid's, the poor man had gone to trial that day because of the incident with Buckbeak. Hermione spoke, "Beautiful day."

Ron spoke, "Gorgeous, unless of course you mean ripped to pieces."

Danny raised an eyebrow, "Okay, what the hell is going on?"

Hermione spoke, "Ronald has lost his rat."

Ron looked scandalized, "I haven't lost anything, your cat killed him."

Hermione seemed to be getting mad, "Rubbish."

Ron looked at him, "Danny, you've seen the way that bloodthirsty beast of hers is always lurking about, and Scabbers is gone."

Hermione looked at Ron, "Well maybe you should learn to take care of your pets."

Ron glared at her, "Your cat killed him." They then started saying did and did not to each other like that was a good way to settle an argument. When they finally got to Hagrid's they saw him skipping stones by the lake and Hagrid saw them but just kept skipping stones.

Hermione spoke, "How'd it go Hagrid, the hearing?"

Hagrid looked at a stone he was thinking about skipping, "Well, first off, the committee members took turns talking about why we were there." He tossed the stone, "And then I got up and said my piece, said that Buckbeak was a good Hippogriff, always cleaned his feathers. And then Lucius Malfoy got up, well you can imagine, he said Buckbeak was a deadly and dangerous creature who would kill you as soon as he looked at you."

Hagrid tossed the stone and Hermione spoke, "And then?"

Hagrid quietly sighed, "And then he asked for the worst old Lucius."

Ron spoke, "Not sacking you."

Hagrid glanced at Ron, "No I'm not sacked." Hagrid looked like he was going to cry, "Buckbeak's been sentenced to death."

Hagrid tossed a stone into the water and it sank as soon as it hit the surface and Hagrid started to cry. Danny whispered, "Tell me he'll be okay, please." The hand on his shoulder tightened it's grip just a little to tell him that it would be okay. With that in mind Danny walked into the lake and stood next to Hagrid, "It'll be okay, I promise."

Hagrid didn't say anything and Danny just stood next to him, he was terrible at comforting people. Later that night he was sitting in bed in his dorm, it was late and everyone else was asleep but Danny was awake. His insomnia was keeping him up so he decided to look at the marauders map and hoped it would make him tired.

Ron suddenly woke up saying something about spiders and looked at him, "Spiders, they want me to tap dance, I don't want to tap dance."

Danny looked very confused but replied anyway, "You show this spiders who's boss Ron."

Ron nodded, "Yeah I'll tell them." He then mumbled that as he laid down again and he was out like a light in seconds. Danny just shook his head before looking at the map again and he moved part of it and saw a name he shouldn't have. The name 'Peter Pettigrew' was on the map and Danny felt like his heart would have stopped if it was beating.

Death urged him to get up and he did just that, he grabbed the map and quietly made his way out out of the dorms. As Danny was walking he saw that the portraits were asleep and he kept looking at the map to make sure he knew where Pettigrew was going. He stopped some distance away and watched, he took out his wand just in case and waited for Pettigrew to come to him.

As Pettigrew got closer he heard what sounded like the clicking of nails or claws on stone which he found odd. His instincts were like sirens at this point and when Pettigrew got closer he looked around but didn't see anyone. Danny looked everywhere around him but didn't see anything and he was beyond confused but his instincts weren't screaming at him anymore.

He looked at the map again and saw that Pettigrew had gotten past him and he would have run after him but Snape was coming. Danny tapped the map, "Mischief managed." He quickly put the map and his wand away, thank god he didn't need a light to see in the dark.

As soon as he did a light came from the darkness and Snape was standing in front of him. "Phantom, what are you doing wandering the corridors at night?"

Danny immediately came up with a lie, "I was sleepwalking."

Snape didn't look convinced, "How extraordinarily like your father you are Phantom, he to was exceedingly arrogant strutting about the castle."

Danny glared at him, "He didn't strut and I don't either, now point your wand away from my face before I break it."

Snape's eyes narrowed at Danny before he lowered his wand a little, "Turn out your pockets."

Danny resisted the urge to roll his eyes and he took out the currently blank marauders map and Snape looked at it. "What's this?"

Danny looked completely calm, "Spare parchment."

Snape once again didn't look convinced, "Really, open it." Danny opened it and Snape put his wand on the map, "Reveal your secrets." Words then appeared on it and Snape looked at him, "Read it."

Danny looked at the writing, "Messrs Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs offer their compliments to Professor Snape and-."

Danny cut himself off when he almost laughed and Snape spoke, "Go on."

Danny cleared his throat a little, "And request that he keep his abnormally large nose out of other people's business."

Snape glared at him, "Why you insolent little-."

Snape was cut off by a voice behind him, "Professor."

The teacher immediately turned and saw Lupin, "Well well, Lupin, out for a little walk in the moonlight are we?"

Lupin looked at him, "Danny, are you alright?"

Truthfully Danny would say no, first Pettigrew and now Snape, what else could go wrong tonight? Snape answered, "That remains to be seen." Snape took the map from Danny and he let him, "I have just now confiscated a rather curious artifact from Mr. Phantom. Take a look Lupin, this is supposed to be your area of expertise, clearly it's full of dark magic."

Lupin looked at Snape, "Oh I seriously doubt it Severus it looks to me as though it's merely a parchment designed to insult anyone who tries to read it." Lupin laughed a little, "I suspect it's a Zonko product." Snape tried to take it but Lupin stopped him, "Nevertheless, I should investigate any hidden qualities it may possess."

"It is, after all, as you say, my area of expertise." Lupin looked at Danny, "Danny would you come with me please?" Danny moved to follow Lupin and said man looked at Snape, "Professor, goodnight."

The two walked away and Snape watched them as they left, they soon reached Lupin's classroom and Lupin opened the door. "Come in." Danny walked inside and Lupin looked at the map, "Now I haven't the faintest idea, Danny, how this map came to be in your possession. And quite frankly I am astounded that you didn't hand it in, did it never occur to you that this in the hands of Sirius Black is a map to you?"

Danny crossed his arms, "Actually yes, it did, despite what you and everyone else thinks I'm not an idiot. If he got a hold of the map he would have a hell of a time figuring out how it works if he's never seen it before. If he has it means he knows what's on the map anyway so with or without it he can still find me."

Lupin walked closer to him, "You know your father never set much store by the rules either but he and your mother gave their lives to save yours. Gambling their sacrifice by wandering around the castle unprotected with a killer on the loose seems to be a pretty poor way to repay them."

Danny glared at him, "Well maybe I shouldn't have lived in the first place did you ever think of that?" Lupin looked shocked by what Danny said, Danny turned and started walking out of the room but he stopped. He looked at Lupin, "Do you want to know what was so damn important, the reason I was walking around the castle at night?"

Lupin stayed silent and Danny looked him in the eye, "I saw Peter Pettigrew's name on the map."

Lupin almost spoke in a whisper, "That's not possible."

"Well it is, I went to see what the hell was going on, I didn't see Pettigrew but something was in the hallway." Lupin looked like he had lost the ability to speak and the look in Danny's eyes was cold, "Goodnight sir."

Danny then walked out of the room and went back to the dorms, he was about to walk up the stairs when he heard the cracking. He ran to the bathroom and this one seemed to hit harder then his normal episodes, it hurt to breath and it was hard with all the blood. He held onto the counter like he'd die if he let go and it was soon covered in blood, Danny couldn't stand anymore.

Danny tried to make sure not to lie on his back, if he did he would probably choke on his own blood. He coughed it onto the floor and he knew Death didn't want to cause him more pain so he didn't touch him. Danny eventually spoke after coughing up an alarming amount of blood, "Death."

Death gently held his hand and Danny felt several wounds open, it hurt, they hadn't been this painful in a long time. It was early morning by the time it stopped, no one was up yet but he had to be fast if he didn't want anyone to suspect anything. Danny quickly cleaned up the blood in the bathroom and on his clothes, thank god for magic, and he went to the dorms.

He quickly changed and by the time he did Ron woke up and he looked at Danny, "Blimey Danny, you look horrible."

Danny glanced at Ron, "Thanks."

"You know what I mean, are you okay?"

"I'm fine, I'll meet you in the great hall." Danny left the dorms and walked to breakfast, if it weren't for Death he wouldn't have made it. He sat down and he felt hungry and sick at the same time, he ate slowly and when Ron and Hermione joined him they both looked concerned. Danny refused to tell them what was wrong and he was actually glad when class rolled around.

He found himself in Divination and Trelawney spoke, "Broaden your minds, you must look beyond. The art of crystal gazing is in the clearing of the inner eye, only then can you see, try again."

Ron was currently asleep and Danny was staring at the crystal ball, he looked absolutely dead aside from the fact that he was breathing. No one had even seen him blink, a few thought he died with his eyes open until Trelawney had walked closer to the table. "Now what do we have here?"

Both he and Ron quickly sat up and looked at the teacher and Hermione, who Danny knew wasn't there before, spoke. "Oh, do you mind me trying?" Trelawney smiled and Hermione glanced at the ball, "The grim, possibly."

Trelawney leaned closer to Hermione, "My dear, from the first moment you stepped into my class I sensed that you did not possess the proper spirit for the noble art of Divination." Trelawney traced one of the lines on Hermione's hand, "There, you see, there, you may be young in years but the heart that beats beneath your bosom is as shriveled as an old maids."

"Your soul as dry as the pages of the books you desperately cleave." Trelawney patted Hermione's hand and Hermione snatched her hand away from the woman looking very unhappy. She hit the crystal ball onto the floor before walking out of the room and the ball rolled out the door with Hermione.

Trelawney looked slightly confused, "Have I said something?"

Danny had been resting his head on his hand and after Trelawney spoke, he let his head hit the table and it startled many of the other students. Danny didn't move, no one wanted to disturb him in case he got mad so Ron just made sure Danny was breathing every so often. When class was finally over Danny and Ron were walking down the stairs that led to the classroom.

Ron spoke, "She's gone mental Hermione has, I mean, not that she wasn't always mental, but now it's suddenly out there for everyone to see."

Danny suddenly stopped when he saw the crystal ball on one of the steps, he picked it up and looked at Ron. "I'm going to go take this back, you coming?"

Ron looked at him like he was crazy, "I'm not going back."

Danny rolled his eyes, "Where's your sense of adventure Ron?" Nonetheless Danny still went up the stairs  on his own and back into Trelawney's classroom. He walked over to Trelawney's table and put the crystal ball on the empty stand, he was about to walk away when he saw something.

He looked straight at the crystal ball and it looked like Sirius Black and he could hear him say his name. Someone then grabbed his shoulder and he quickly turned and saw Professor Trelawney and he spoke, "What the fuck?"

Trelawney spoke but her voice sounded odd, "He will return tonight."

Danny looked beyond confused, "Okay seriously, what the fuck is going on?"

"Tonight, he who betrayed his friends whose heart rots with murder shall break free, innocent blood shall be spilt, and servant and master shall be reunited once more." Trelawney then coughed like she had something stuck in her throat and it looked like she was oblivious to what just happened.

She looked at him, "Oh, I'm so sorry dear boy, did you say something?"

Danny immediately shook his head, "No, no, I just came to return that thing and I have so I'm going to leave." Danny quickly walked out of the room and once he was out of Trelawney's sight he jumped down over the railing for the stairs. He landed lightly on the ground at the bottom and since no one was around he was safe.

He made a mad dash away from the tower and later met up with Ron and Hermione to go to Hagrid's. They saw a man dressed in nothing but black with a mask covering the top half of his face as they walked through one of the court yards. He was sharpening the blade of an axe and Danny wanted to punch the guy but he had to restrain himself.

He gave them a creepy smile as they walked past and they quickly walked away and headed for Hagrid's. As they were getting closer Hermione spoke, "I can't believe they're going to kill Buckbeak, it's too horrible."

They walked out of the entrance to one of the bridges and Ron spoke, "It just got worse."

Malfoy, Crabbe, and Goyle were watching Hagrid's near where they were while using some large stones for cover. Hermione quickly walked closer and Crabbe looked at them, "Look who's here."

Malfoy turned to them, "Ah, come to see the show."

Hermione glared at him, "You, you foul loathsome evil little cockroach!"

She pointed her wand at his throat and Malfoy actually looked scared, Ron Spoke, "Hermione no, he's not worth it." Everyone stood still for a minute while Malfoy looked terrified before Hermione lowered her wand. She turned away as Malfoy started to laugh before she quickly turned and punched him in the face.

The three then ran away and Hermione turned to him and Ron, "That felt good."

Ron spoke, "Not good, brilliant."

Danny looked ecstatic, well, as ecstatic as he could when he was exhausted, "That was such a me thing to do, I have never been so proud, I request the highest of fives."

Hermione's smile widened and she actually gave Danny a high five before the three walked down to Hagrid's. They saw Buckbeak as they were walking by and knocked on Hagrid's door, the man let them inside and looked at Buckbeak through the window. Hagrid smiled, "Ah look at him, loves the smell of the trees as the wind blows through them."

Danny looked at Hagrid, "Why can't we just let him go?"

Hagrid sighed, "They'd know it was me and Dumbledore would get into trouble, he's coming down you know, Dumbledore. Says he wants to be with me when they... when it happens, great man Dumbledore, great man."

Hermione stood up, "We'll stay with you too Hagrid."

Hagrid looked at her, "You'll do no such thing, think I want you seeing something like that, no, you just drink your tea and be off, oh, before you do, Ron."

Hagrid walked over to a metal container and took the lid off before pulling Scabbers out of it and Ron smiled, "Scabbers, your alive!"

Alarms started going off in Danny's head as Hagrid spoke, "Keep a closer eye on your pets Ron."

Hermione walked closer to Ron, "I think that means you owe someone an apology."

Ron nodded, "Right, next time I see Crookshanks I'll let him know."

Hermione glared at him, "I meant me."

All of a sudden a vase on the table broke and Hagrid spoke, "Blimey, what was that?"

A rock then hit Danny in the head and he growled to himself before looking out the window to see who threw a rock at him. His breath fogged up a little and he was confused but he ignored it when he saw people coming up the path. Danny spoke, "Hagrid."

Hagrid looked out the window, "Crikey." Dumbledore, Fudge, and the executioner were walking down the path and Hagrid looked at them, "It's late, it's nearly dark. You shouldn't be here, if someone sees you outside the castle at this time of night you'll be in trouble, big trouble, particularly you Danny."

There was a knock on the door and Hagrid shouted, "Be with you in a moment!" Hagrid covered a creature he had in the corner and looked at them before whispering, "Quick, quick."

He motioned toward the back door and Danny looked at Hagrid, "Hagrid, it'll be okay."

Hagrid smiled nervously and he looked like he might cry, "Go on, go on."

The three then left through the back and waited until Dumbledore, Fudge, and the executioner wouldn't be able to see them before running around the garden. They hid behind some pumpkins and Danny's breath fogged up again, they heard something snap and Hermione turned toward it.Danny looked at her, "What?"

Hermione looked confused, "I thought I just saw-." She shook her head, "Nevermind."

Ron spoke, "Let's go." The three then ran up the path to get away and Danny hated leaving Buckbeak there, Death assured him it would be okay. Once they got to the top of the hill they looked down and saw the executioner walk toward where Buckbeak was and raise the axe above his head before bringing the axe down.

Hermione hugged Ron and cried, Danny whispered, "Did you lie to me?"

Death hugged him, actually hugged him, so he obviously knew something Danny didn't. One thing Danny did know was that it was going to be one hell of a wild ride.
