Chapter Four

Day Four:

Sanctuary

noun

a place of refuge or safety.

Wind was brushing through Zaros hair, as he stood by the open mushroom window. He was trying to take everything in.

"Please, explain one more time Ganson." Zaro mumbled, running a pale hand through his dark brown hair, his thick curls wrapping tightly around his slim fingers.

Ganson sighed as he pulled himself onto the desk positioned next to the window. "I'll start once more.."

"Thousands of years ago, when mystical beings still roamed the land in harmony with humans a Golem by the name of Lontras had met with the King of Aszier, who was known for his generosity when people were in need. Lontras had been allies with the King for many years but suddenly the King wanted nothing to do with Lontras and his Tribe of Golems.

"It is said that Lontras had been using the Kings generosity to his advantage and would not have cared if anything happened to the City and its people. It just so happens that the city of Aszier had been forwarded by the south Werewolf clan, whom theyd had an altercation with, and after sending a message of help to Lontras, no one came to their aid.

"When they finally managed to ward off the werewolves and help the people of Aszier they're population had decreased by over 2 thousand leaving less then 600 people on the land. Most of the people who lived their had become afraid, and packed up to live elsewhere. Everyday the cities population number went down until all that was left were 3 familys, the King and his trusty guards.

"After being left in the dust by someone he had trusted with his life, he swore to never work with him again. So when Lontras showed up again, to ask for another favor - famously recounted as The Last Message - the King told him no. Telling Lontras that he would no longer be aiding him in his battles.

"This outraged Lontras, leading to the King and him arguing for hours and the King pointing out he had no one left in his city, he had no resources and was on the verge of a war with the south werewolf clan. He could not help Lontras.

"One of the knights who survived after Lontras saw an opportunity to take out one of the strongest cities, would go on to say Lontras showed no mercy. Tearing apart every last person."

Zaro blinked at Ganson who took a sip of the water next to him, he was still trying to take this part in but before he could ask any questions Ganson began again.

"After Lontras had tore apart the City of Aszier, he moved on to the neighboring City - Spore Edodes - the City of Mushroom people. They'd been under the protection of the King of Aszier for many moons and Lontras had seen this as an ample opportunity to knock out another large tribe.

"The King of the mushrooms - the current Kings great-great grandfather - had seen Lontras on his way. As Lontras was on his way, the King reached out to their second closest ally, Lamia - a cult of Vampire women.

"Lamia sent reinforcements, even though it was light out - their ruler relied on trust and Spore Edodes had help them for various years. When the reinforcements from Lamia arrived, Lontras was barely being kept at bay by the knights of Spore Edodes.

"The vampire women had immediately set into action and tore down Lontras - losing many of their own as well as Spore Edodes knights. It was clear Lontras was a threat and that he needed to be terminated.

"Though they'd only succeeded in battling him off, they counted that as victory for now. The reinforcements took their now genuinely dead friends back to Lamia where they were buried and mourned.

"Lamia visited Spore Edodes, bringing with them the ruler of Dhamir a closed off nation of Changelings and Male vampires. Where they organized and declared War on Lontras and his Golem Tribe. For good measure they brought in a neighboring Hybrid Human City, one  of the strongest human cities in the realm.

"When Lontras and his Tribe caught wind of the war, and what Lontras had done they ostracized their Ruler. Claiming he'd disturbed the peace they'd had in this world. Though those who spoke against him, spoke against his harsh fist of judgement and were then put on trial and murdered infront of the rest of the people.

"Lontras had tried to gather the help of other Tribes, though no one wanted to help him. After hearing of his murder spree in Aszier, they realized he couldn't be trusted and would probably just turn on them if anything got tough.

"He was left alone, forcing his people - who hadn't already fled - to begin training, he'd forced women and children to equip for battle as well as men. And when it came time to fight this war, Lamia and Dhamir realized they couldn't fight the oncoming troups and instead captured them.

"Keeping the Tribe of Golems safe in an unamed location - now known as the Sanctuary of Golems, where Golems live happy and peaceful- they stormed the land and found Lontras. When he came face to face with them, he realized how big a mistake he had made. Even after trying to fight them, he was outnumbered and quickly taken care of.

"Lamia and Dhamir promised to keep the City of Mushrooms safe, and they'd kept that promise. Eventually setting up a barrier that only those who the Mushroom king allowed. The mushroom people had been saved and they owed their lives to the two Vampire nations.

"Eventually becoming allied with only Vampire nations, treaties were signed and they continue you to be resigned every ten years. The mushrooms owe everything to Vampires and therefore worship them and theyre ideals."

Zaro once again just blinked, and Ganson sighed "Do not make me repeat myself again."

"You don't have to, it's just alot - you know? That's why theyre so accommodating to me? I feel bad making them think im some creature like that. Even if im slowly beginning to believe i am."

Ganson nodded at Zaro in complete understanding, "You could always venture to the land of Lamia, they're the only known location of Vampires." A small voice spoke up. Right the small mushroom.

They'd had to explain the situation to the small mushroom - whos name they learned was Reno - about how Zaro wasn't actually a vampire, even though they were starting to doubt he was human.

He did make a good point though, "yeah why dont you? We could accompany you, and it's not like you have a plan anyways." Ganson spoke.

"I mean, yeah i suppose we could do that. I wouldn't mind your guys' company either." Zaro agreed as his phone began to ring.

How'd he have reception all the way out here?

Either way he picked it up, "hello?" he asked and to his surprise it was his mama calling.

"дорогой !! I was so worried about you, you hadn't called or texted so i needed to check in on you! How is everything??" The 54 year olds voice was loud, and even the mushrooms could hear it.

"Ah mama, we have a lot to talk about!"
